Hi Mick, I guess I should have mentioned I¡¯ve owned the Digitrax PR4 and JMRI software for 2 years now and this has never happened in the past. Short pulses while JMRI is reading information from the decoder is very common, but never a slow and steady movement of the locomotive, plus all the CV values after I stop the locomotive and remove it from the test track contain the value of 255.

A loco moving on the program track while reading the decoder is normal behaviour.? Many decoders use the motor? as a load to generate the ack pulse, and so the loco moves....

Steve,

This album shows the dialog windows that can occur for NX actions.

/g/jmriusers/album?id=94433

NX Options.png dialog occurs when re-selecting an existing route. This makes it possible to cancel a route, simulate the train movement or stack the route for use when the current route is finished.

The NX Stage.png dialog occurs when a conflicting route has been selected. If yes is selected it will be added to the stack for later execution.

The NX Stack List shows the currently stacked routes. As the conflict is resolved, they will be activated and removed from the list. It is also possible to cancel a stacked route request.

I was able to change your config to use four simulator connections and get your panel to load. I still get some errors creating sensors, but since your question is regarding turnouts, I hope I'm close enough.
What turnout(s) (specifically) are you seeing the problem with? I tried a few on your layouteditor panel (e.g NY-87), and they worked as expected, the JMRI panel and web panel looked the same after changing state from either side or from the turnout table. I tried this by manually changing the feedback sensors and by clicking after changing the turnouts to "Monitoring".

As for the NX routing, I don't know what this means: "selecting an Entry Exit route" so I couldn't duplicate it on your JMRI panel. But my guess is we do not have the underlying communication for the web panel to perform this prompt. So that may be a showstopper for you.

Locked Re: Down loaded 4. 16 .2

Hi Mike,

First, I can guarantee that you do not have 4.16.2, as it does not exist.

As to your issue, the four digit number is most likely (unless it starts with at least a zero) a long address. If you're trying to set it as a short address, it won't work. But: it's just a guess.

Good wifi signal: yes. Not much in the wat of interference besides me in the vicinity of the layout. Most times, the phones have line-of-sight to the router.
Tried YouTube on one of the phones, was able to watch a video. I haven't seen any sign that the two phones are losing WiFi connection.
Haven't tried a router reboot, I'll give that a shot. It's only myself on the router, with a variable number of wireless devices; more than ten if everything is actually being used on the network, which usually isn't the case. Generally, it'd be the layout laptop, Surface, one or two phones.
Tried the JMRI webserver and was watching the system console scroll on one of the two phones. Something grabbed my attention for a moment and when I glanced back, Engine Driver had reverted to the throttle screen. I don't recall specifics of what diverted me but it was something related to connectivity...

Jan -?

For most all of the devices I have floating around, both Android and iOS, one can enable airplane mode and then selectively enable various functions such as Bluetooth or WiFi.

Having played around with a third Android device, as well as my iPhone, I am at the point of thinking that it's something to do with the Galaxy S5 phones and not network, JMRI, etc. as those two devices are the only ones that seem to have this happening. I tried turning off the automatic app update last night but it didn't work. One thought is to try one of them via the LNWI and see what happens there. I did try some network traffic monitoring last night but nothing conclusive came of it.

Thank you?again Jan for the information.

I was not aware of this prior to purchasing and installing the device.? If I had, I would have thought about this differently.

Maybe there might be a JMRI app in the possible future??? ?

Thank you again,

LNWI is not a substitute for Locobuffer plus a computer's wifi and does not work with JMRI. LNWI is a device that interfaces Loconet to wifi by setting up its own wifi network completely independent of any other wifi network.

Your confusion is understandable and common because LNWI works with smart phone apps that were designed to work with JMRI via the host computer's wifi interface (plus a Loconet-computer interface like Locobuffer). But the apps are just throttles and not remote versions of JMRI and furthermore LNWI does not interface with JMRI.?

So LNWI is not a useful addition to your setup because it replaces none of your existing hardware or software and adds no new functionality (you can already connect smartphone throttles through your existing wifi and JMRI).

Hi Jan,

I did in fact download the most recent one and it is the same thing.

When you look at the picture that is uploaded, it looks fine, but when you print a list or see the icons or on one of the things like a phone or tablet, it shows upside down.

So the list is being printed from the computer that the program is installed on, so I don't think it is a app on the phone or tablet being the issue.

Thank you

Rob: I recall from a few months ago a post about picture orientation and also that the issue was resolved in an update. Do you have the latest JMRI version?

Locked Re: CTI/Acela panel load errors after updating to 4.16

Yesterday was a long day of troubleshooting (10 hours).? I first upgraded to 4.12 then on to 4.17.3. After some panel load errors, I removed JMRI and reinstalled 4.12.
Finally found the culprit in my panel, which was not throwing any particular error in the system console, but was just taking down the CTI/Acela network.? The LED on some boards would go out completely after a sequence of random blinks cycling between the boards.
I don't think my other crossing signal logic had anything to do with the error, as I reported in a previous email.? Time will tell as I add these back in.
The real culprit is logix that turns on a relay in my CTI Switchman Controller.? If memory serves me correctly, this relay powers an NCE Light-it that is programmed to blink a crossing signal.
Whatever the case, this logix was performing without any hiccups prior to upgrading to 4.12 from 4.11.6. Disabling this seems to have eliminated crippling of the CTI network on panel load in 4.12.
One thing noticed with 4.12 is that I am constantly having to delete the CTI connection and then re-add it to preferences every time I switch between a panel.? I hope this is fixed in 4.17.3 but I've not investigated it yet.?

This morning, having zeroing in and correcting the panel load problem in 4.12, I successfully upgraded to 4.17.3 and uploaded my CTC panel with no apparent issues.
I am happy to report that my panel (with the specific above-mentioned logix disabled) has uploaded twice in a row.without any hiccups.

In retrospect, I could have shortened my troubleshooting time significantly if I'd just disabled all logix at startup (F8). Didn' think about that until I'd walked away from it for a while yesterday.
The other thing I didn't think of at first was disabling specific logix rather than deleting some of it.? Hindsight is always 20/20.

Locked Automation for dummies

What is the absolute easiest way to run a locomotive automatically, stop at a station and start again.
?I try but am super confused. I have block detection, the latest version of JMRI. IPad control, MyLayout etc.?
I cannot work out signals and masts. I have tried and tried but It just confuses me.
I can control my points on My Layout and have put in LEDs on the monitor that change when the point is switched.
My question is;
At the moment I am playing ?around with dispatcher. Is this where I should be exploring to simply get one DCC locomotive to stop at a station for a minute and then go again?
?Thanks?
Richard.

Randall Wood

JMRI supports the LocoNet over TCP protocol, so: - Add a Raspberry Pi running JMRI connected to the LocoBuffer - Configure JMRI on the Raspberry Pi to provide a LocoNet over TCP server on startup - Configure JMRI on the laptop to use the LocoNet over TCP as its connection

You now have the Laptop running over WiFi only to control the railroad. Note that you could place some automations in the Raspberry Pi (so the laptop is not needed to run JMRI), while still displaying a panel on the Laptop for manual control.

Locked Re: Question about Operations scenario with alternate tracks

Rodney, I did have "Allow C/I to C/I moves" set, but that didn't have the desired effect.? I think this is for two reasons: 1) the moves are C/I to/from spurs, and 2) I think this only applies to Switcher Service, which is a train restricted to 1 Location, while the Turn has multiple Locations.? But things seem to be working nicely with the split location. :)

Dave, you are a good salesman. ;)? I will give custom loads a try when I get the schemes more developed.

Thanks again.

Hi Mick,

That's true, but that's short pulses. Moveing of at, as described, a slow and steady speed is something else entirely.

Just dive in and create your custom loads. Remember a "load" of "Empty" need to be designated as such. All other loads are just letters and auto to a load by default. Once you unlock the schedule feature of this program it makes your paperwork so much better as the crews are picking up a load of scrap paper and it is being delivered to your papermill. This also gives the CC/WB purists one less reason to complain about your choice of car forwarding as they can see that they are actually hauling commodities instead of E's and L's.
The above is just IMHO
