Re: JMRI Not Identifying Locomotives Properly
Hi Thomas, That's an intresting notion, but as they are user defined values, it means that you can't trust them to remain constant. Someone might be using them, say, as the date of the last maintenance done to the engine, after which DecoderPro would no longer find it when identifying. Pity, because I like the idea. Maybe, just maybe, it would work with an option in the preferences to turn it on (default: off). Maybe it is because I only see the digest, Dave, but I'm still lost. I just searched for SwissChris and only found four messages none of which was relevant.
I used to get every message but there was too little of relevance to my situation. Maybe you could cut and paste what SwissChris said into your reply? It would be interesting to know what it said. Regards Peter |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPeter, I quoted the posting from SwissChris below that comment as it is exactly what I was referring to. His analogy was very good. I suspect that you may be following this topic on the web page: Unfortunately it hides all quoted parts in a little shaded box with three dots. You have to click on that box to see what has been quoted. Some email clients also do the same or similar, hiding quoted text behind something like "See more from Dave Heap..." Right, it's really hard to make nice sound packs. But at the very beginning is a sound source. Did you find one? Unfortunately the following site is in German only... A click on the speaker symbol plays the sound. On is a 4MT 4-6-0 sound, a sound sample is here: Did you already found these sources? You should: make a copy of the MRC 1827 xml file in a directory outside the JMRI directory, rename the file name using 1833 instead of 1827, then edit and make your changes. Then in JMRI in the 'Debug' menu, choose 'Import Decoder File' and follow instructions; then again from the 'Debug' menu choose 'Recreate Decoder Index' (this may be redundant with the previous but just to be sure). This will copy your file in your JMRI personal directory and is will stay there even if you install new versions of JMRI. When you have finished, it would be good to send us your file so that we can add it to JMRI for good. Also I'll be interested to get a copy of the documentation (scanned) as it is not available on MRC site for this decoder. Thus, if you cannot create the decoder, I could do it for you. PS: I guess that you restarted from MRC 1827 (not 1927 that do not seem to exist). ? -- Alain LM |

Re: cmri turnout
after getting all electrical connections completely solid ...(had some temporary connections that weren't consistent) ... all i/o boards work now !?
Even though the occupancy detectors show up correctly on the panel and the output board operates the sm2's and the physical turnouts , the initialization message still shows a CT # of 16? I configured the node with different combinations of card types (with i/o boards installed & uninstalled) .. shouldn't JMRI identify the card-type CT variable the same as CMRI??? it seems like it's an issue with the configuration calculations since the i/o boards weren't even plugged in ... Thanks Bob
First of all apologies for not clipping the old message parts but hopefully they help to inform new readers, unlike Dave Heap's comment, which leaves it unclear as to what his "very good explanation" applies to. Bob, you need to read the preambles. The button labels then make sense based on what the Help says. If nothing else, preambles along these lines would clear up the confusion between the first and second row of identical buttons. I understand the loyalty of others who have figured this out. I have not raised the matter lightly but new users encounter these buttons quite early on while already on a steep learning curve, so anything to make understanding easier has got to be good. Re: Roster Images Upside Down
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOur "real (wo)man's cameras" are Olympus OM-D E-M1. Other cameras we have owned are Pentax, Panasonic and Canon. All have display auto-rotate enabled and all store EXIF Orientation information, as do all photos friends with DSLRs have shared with us over the years. All these images, plus all images taken by iPhones and iPads have displayed perfectly in almost every Mac imaging app we have used with them, including Adobe Photoshop. The only exception was a Microsoft product (Entourage or Outlook) we no longer use. It didn't correctly render images taken with the camera rotated, either our own images or ones sent to us. We need to stop blaming cameras/iPhones etc. and look into how to code JMRI so it makes use of the worldwide EXIF Orientation tag standard. Support for the The ESU LokPilot Fx Nano is in JMRI V4.15.1 (and probably quite a bit earlier). It's under LokPilot Standard V1.0.

The LokPilot Fx series are function-only decoders and don't have a motor to pulse on to provide communication back to the programmer. I don't have an Fx Nano but I connected my Fx V4.0 to my ESU tester (which connects a motor and all function outputs to the 8 pin socket) and JMRI was able to identify it fine. If you restart JMRI, open the Help->System Console menu item and press New Loco-Read Type from Decoder, what appears in the system console (use Copy to Clipboard and post it for us)? It will tell us whether it was a failure to respond or a failure to identify (in which case the log has valuable identification information I need to know). -- Dave in Australia On 5 Jan 2019, at 11:39 AM, "callaire@..." <callaire@...> wrote: |

Re: Trouble with JMRI to JMRI client/server
Yes, that's a good setup.
I don't think you'll overload anything (other than the track bus), but If you want to distribute the load more, you could have a locobuffer-usb on each RaspberryPi, and take a bit more off of the central machine. --SteveT |

Missing Decoder Listings
I just Purchased two new decoders, One a Zimo MX616N and a ESU Lokpilot FX Nano 8 Pin. Neither of these will self identify under JMRI.
The Zimo will identify many different decoders but not the MX616N, If I select one that I think is closest to it and read all CV's It will read almost all, but will leave three CV's?unread.?That questions my choice of decoder. Do I need to create a new definition file? On the Lokpilot I see the F1 Light Flash, when it is being read,?but then I get a no locomotive present. Reading the documentation just confuses me more. Can anyone give me some insight?how to programing these decoders. I am using JMRI Test ver 15-1 Also I have a MRC 1833 Sound Decoder that I was trying to create a Decoder definition file. I am?using JEdit. I used a MRC 1927 File to begin with as it had most of the cv's that I needed. It will let me make changes to the file but will not let me save it. |

I personally like the terminology as it is. It is clear and concise. Changing it would just complicate matters for the thousands of users who already have learned to navigate the system.? And, imho, there are far more pressing things for the developers to spend their voluntary time on.? Thank you to all who have put so much time and effort into this awesome product.
