Locked Re: Decoder Pro Manual ?

Most if not all the needed information is in the help files which are part of the JMRI download. The developers try to keep them up to date. Having separate manuals is a lot of work and would require a volunteer to spend a lot of time on. I personally don't see as being useful.

??? I changed the design of the detectors.? I took off the rubber based insulation (I put on) and totally painted the "LED? package" except for the top.? I angled the "LED package" a little.? The test cars were a black tank car and a black bottomed box car.
??? Latter may take a picture if anyone if interested.

Locked Power Pro connecting to Macbook Pro issues

Ron Burkhard

Gents,

??? The subject issue: NCE Power Pro, serial port RS232 connected to PC windows 10 works normally.? Older JMRI version not updated recently.? I have plugged the RS-232 to USB into PC with no positive results, and have not attempted to trouble shoot at this time.

The Problem: I am attempting to use said Power Pro connecting to Macbook Pro 2.7 Core i7.? JmRI Ver 4.12+Rb6u9bb1, java 1.8.0_171(en_US).

Per Dave Heap for the NCE users group emails, software/updates, Silabs usbdriver disk.dmg, Trendnet TU-S9 software, Mac.os.vcp_driver.zip,? have been downloaded & installed.? The cable is from the desktop to a Trendnet TU-S9 RS232 to USB.

I suspect the Trendnet is the culprit in the laptop not communicating to the Power Pro.? I have been through all the preferences:

NCE

System Mfr - NCE

System connection - Serial

Serial Port choice - Choices are None/cu.Bluetooth-incoming.port/TTy.Bluetooth-incomming-port (none work)

Connection prefix - N

Connection Name - NCE

Baud rate - 9600

Eprom - 2006 or later

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Locked DP v 4.12 & v 4.13.2 Upgrade Problem

To set the stage, I use a Laptop WIN 7 machine with a SPROG II connection for programming which has worked fine in the past.? Since I hadn't fired it up in over a year? I decided to upgrade to the latest version.? After download and install of v 4.12 when I opened it I was directed immediately to the Roster page without the usual preferences/ intro panel being shown.? When I attempted to open up and program one of my roster locos I could not do it (either by the Program button or double clicking on my roster selection). I believe the SPROG is configured right (COM4 on my machine) and the drivers seem to be up to date. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4.12 at least 3 times, with the same result.? I finally decided to try 4.13.2, but when I open the program now it takes me to a "DecoderPro: All Entries" panel with a "Getting Started" display with instructions on how to enter a new loco, which is NOT what I want to do - I just want to modify a few CVs on some of my existing locos.? I'm afraid I have exhausted my ideas on what is going on here.? Any ideas?
Thanks,

Dave

Locked Re: Entering New Loco's in DEcoder Pro

I model in HO and have several BLI locos.? Most came with a Paragon 2 decoder which I replaced with either a Soundtraxx or TCS Wow decoder.? I like the BLI steam locos because they have traction tires and will easily pull 20 plus trains up the grade on my layout.? I recently bought a new BLI 2-8-2 with a Paragon 3 decoder.? I have a similar set-up using Decoder Pro in that I have a 2 foot piece of track to use as a dedicated programming track hooked up to a Sprog 3 Interface.? I had no problem getting Decoder Pro to identify the decoder as a BLI Paragon 3 Steam decoder.? One caution is if you go in to manually choose a decoder is to choose the Paragon 3 and not the Rolling Thunder.? Sometimes I get a error message and that usually means that either the programming track is dirty or the wheels on the loco are dirty so make sure your programming track is clean.? You mentioned that you toggle back and forth between your Sprog? and your PR3.? Make sure that when you do that Decoder Pro has preferences set correctly for the interface you are using.? I don't know if these ideas will help you but thought I would offer them up.? I also have a programming track on my layout with a programming booster that I can use to manually make changes using my Throttle or if I want to go through the extra trouble I can lug my laptop down to the layout room and use my PR3 to program using the programming track.? I hardly ever get a sound decoder that I cannot program; the one exception is an older loco with a QSI sound decoder that can be a little bit of a problem.

Mike,

First there will be others that immediately respond ?they have never had to do what I am going to say and theres works just fine. Good for them! ?:)

My experience back 10 to 15 years when I started adding decoders and sound was with my PR3 I could not reliably read and write to anything other than basic Digitrax sound decoders. That was before I added a PTB100. Since then I have not found a decoder I cannot program. Now some are a bit more stubborn due to their complex settings, ESU and BLI, but they due program with patience.?

I'm having a similar problem with reading Paragon 3 decoders. I use a 2' programming track with a Sprog II and a Digitrax PR3. They are isolated from each other with a rotary switch. I have DecoderPro 4.12 installed.? I recently bought a new BLI N scale F3 with a Paragon 3. I tried to go through the New Loco process using the Sprog to read it, but kept getting a 'No Locomotive detected' error using the automatic decoder reading function. I tried to manually tell it that it was a BLI Paragon 3 Rolling Thunder, but got the same error. Thought there might be a problem with the Sprog so I switched over to the PR3 and got the same error. So then I thought I had a major problem with the loco and put it on the main, which uses a Digitrax DB150 (2' x 5' track) and the Digitrax throttle. It read it fine and I was able to reprogram the loco address and move some functions around without a problem. I went through all of the various recent emails and made sure that DecoderPro was not set to Local, I was on the right programmer and the Preferences Connections and Default, etc. were set correctly. I was able to run 3 other non-Paragon trains on the programming track using both the Sprog and the PR3.
My guess is after all of this is that neither the Sprog II or PR3 has enough power to run the Paragon 3 decoder. Any other thoughts?

Locked Re: Entering New Loco's in DEcoder Pro

Also, I cleaned the F3's wheels and the programming track.

Locked Re: PanelPro v. 4.12 Save & Re-Open error

Patrick,

The problem is that you are trying to open the throttle XML as a panel xml file. That is causing the errors.

To open a throttle xml file, go to "Tools >> Throttles >> Open Throttles Layout¡±. This will display the throttles that have been saved in the user files location ¡°throttle" directory. This is the normal location when you save a throttle.

See for more information about throttles and throttle layouts.
