Thanks for the suggestions all. I think from reading the various replies I¡¯ll have to bite the bullet ( or whatever the train analogy is) and buy the Sprog 3 with the 2.5 amp output. I inherited the one I have so I don¡¯t know how old it is. With sound decoders getting more and more complex, and using more power, pretty soon we¡¯re going to need small reactors to power stuff. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe?Tripp Lite HS19 series adaptor is fine. It may need a straight-through 9-pin cable to overcome a physical connector issue. I generally recommend the FTDI one sold as a spare part by ESU (dealers) for their LokProgrammer. It is cheap, reliable and doesn't need an adaptor cable. Once you get the cable and drivers working as per my instructions, there is another potential issue with the Power Pro connector, but that can wait until we see your driver loading on the Mac and JMRI can see it. A simple fix that comes to mind is that the Local starts at the storage track with a route of Storage Track - Barge - Industries and then return. Set the moves in the route for Barge at 0 for set outs and pick-ups.

For those of you who have been following this thread, some private communications with Peter Akers has resolved the issue. Turns out the "Selective Lead Loco Sound" preference does not mean that F1 & F2 are not transmitted to trailing locos. It means that any function with a roster label containing one of the word fragments "bell", "horn", or "whistle" is not transmitted. Thus, you need to put function labels in at least the lead loco JMRI roster entry to get the selective sound feature to work. It also means that you can prevent alternate sounds assigned to other functions from being transmitted to trailing locos by putting one of the word fragments in the label. For instance, if a horn crossing sequence is assigned to F14, you can restrict it to the lead loco by using a label such as horn-c.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, but I for one like to have something in my hand to read. A real printed manual at my leisure instead of staring at a computer monitor. I can also concentrate on learning about the program whenever I want to without having to go back and fourth between the program and the online manual. That is just me. Granted, if there are manuals that are incomplete or out of date like those of today, then a manual to that extent is not going to do much training. Thus my solution to set a release date for the software to come out every year, and put a printable manual out for use in that year. Makes sense to me. Unfortunately I am not knowledgeable enough on the software to help with the writing of such a large undertaking. And I do realize it is a big undertaking. But many of us (like me) out here are just squeaking by on how to use the software and as some say even the software instructions for today would be inadequate to instruct anyone today just because things are changing so fast. But it would be nice to have something to look at in my lap while learning the software. Anyone else out there agree? George |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJames is correct. You do not have the correct drivers installed for your Trendnet TU-S9 RS232 to USB. The SiLabs drivers are for the NCE USB board, which is not suitable for the Power Pro. You need find and install drivers for the Trendnet cable. Irrespective of DCC system, there are some basic rules for troubleshooting any USB-attached device to a Mac. Plug your device into your Mac. Go to "System Information" from Apple Menu->About This Mac->More Info->System Report. Look in the USB section, expand all sections under controllers and hubs and see what devices are present. Unplug your device, select Refresh from the System Profiler menus and see what device has disappeared. Plug your device back in, refresh again and see what reappears. Repeat until you see what is changing. If there is no change, there must be a hardware problem external to your Mac, such as a faulty USB cable, connector or device and there is no point going any further until your Mac can see the physical device. Once you have seen the device in System Profiler, you will quite likely have to install Mac drivers for it (although some do not need extra drivers, see your documentation). If unsure, try the next step anyway. Unplug your device. Open a Terminal Window (from /Applications/Utilities), copy and paste the following command in EXACTLY (including spaces and punctuation) then press Enter. while : ;do clear;ls -lt /dev|head;i=$((i+1));echo $i;sleep 1;done This command should show about 10 lines of output and then sit looping, with a counter incrementing every second. Plug your device back in and wait a few seconds. Two new items with names like ?cu.xxx and tty.xxx should appear in the list. They should disappear if you unplug your device. If this does not happen, you do not have the correct drivers installed for your device and you will need to solve that before proceeding further. Once you have found your device, write down the name you see.You want the cu.xxx version not the tty.xxx version. If you have got this far you know your device is be being seen by the Mac, that it has a matching driver installed and the name of the connection port "cu.xxx" you need to select in JMRI. If you cannot get this far, there's no way JMRI can find your device until the driver issue is resolved. Please report back exactly how far you get. ? --? on my roster selection). I believe the SPROG is configured right (COM4 on my machine) and the drivers seem to be up to date. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 4.12 at least 3 times, with the same result.? I finally decided to try 4.13.2, but when I open the
program now it takes me to a "DecoderPro: All Entries" panel with a "Getting Started" display with instructions on how to enter a new loco, which is NOT what I want to do - I just want to modify a few CVs on some of my existing locos.? I'm afraid I have exhausted
my ideas on what is going on here.? Any ideas? |

Layout editor turnout control issue
Hi
i have built my layout in layout editor with all turnouts assigned. I have the options for layout control, direct turnout control and hide Unselected leg set. My turnouts operate just fine when I toggle the state in the turnout table, so I know they work, but when I click on them in the layout editor they only move one way. Subsequent clicks only fire the turnouts the same way. Additionally, there is no animation on the turnout in layout panel. I have a second machine on another layout with the same settings and that works just great. Any ideas? Thanks, Andrew |

Operations - Somewhat complex senario - would like help
I have a small layout but I have set up a somewhat complex process.
Cars are in my storage boxes off the layout. they come on the layout up to 10 at a time on a car float/barge The local picks up the cars delivers them and makes pick ups and returns the picked up cars to the car float/barge. There are 10 industries shipping and receiving cars. Car float is the transition back to storage. here is how I set up operations and I don't think it is right because cars get "orphaned" at the car float.? they don't get routed to an industry. so they sit there and when the local returns they go back to storage on the car float they never left. train 1 -? storage to barge -? ? my storage is set up as a 25000ft spur so it never runs out of room.? ?The barge is a C/I track. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?this train has no other destinations so my guess is it just picks 10 available cars and terminates that's why some get "stranded" ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?this is where I think I go wrong.? ?I want the system to "look ahead" and see what can be delivered and put those cars on the barge. Train 2 - Local way freight - starts at the barge and then goes to all locations (3 towns) and spurs in those towns.? Picks up cars to go "off layout" and drops cars picked up from the barge.? Returns to the barge and terminates Train 3 - Barge to Storage - everything brought in by the local now goes back to storage boxes.? ? start over..... thoughts??
