Re: Roco Zimo decoder question
Hi
It should not matter which Zimo small scale sound decoder it is, they should all behave the same re mapping. It all depends which socket you have in the loco as to which decoder is fitted:- PluX-22 - MX645 most likely in new H0 locos. PluX-16 - MX648 most likely but could be MX645, MTC-21 - MX644, Next-18S - MX658 NEM651 6-pin - MX649, NEM652 8-pin - Could be anything! Be sure to read the CVs from the decoder before changing the relavent CVs and just writing the changes because some CVs determine the decoder type (I believe it is possible to turn a MX644C in to an MX644D and vice versa just by changing CVs!) Re: Slot monitor is blank
Terry,
Are you referring to LocoNet Slot Monitor? If so, what do you mean by "all tabs"? There aren't any "tabs", at least "tabs" as I know them. What command station? If DCS240, are you using "expanded slots"? JMRI does not understand expanded slots, and will not display them. Re: Roco Zimo decoder question
Thomas, in JMRI click on identify which should give you the address after that you should be able to read the decoder type. I don't have JMRI near me to give you the exact steps but you can see what you need what you need to do.

Roco Zimo decoder question
My nice new Roco BR85 comes with a Zimo decoder.
JMRI has a long list of decoders to select from. I have no idea which decoder in in the Lok. And the Roco documentation just says "sound decoder". SO which do I select? Re: connection

Jon,
Yep, you and I and hundreds more bought and built these. When Digitrax came out with their horrible PR1 with no software to use, it was the very FIRST Loco buffer designed by the original "Loconet-Hackers" group way before yahoo groups . The large 25-pin serial connector was part of current technology back then. Most of us had 25-9-pin adapters for the comm ports. It required a separate power supply and you could even add on I/O boards for signaling. The CMOS chip could be programmed for outputs or inputs but the software was either COBOL or DOS-based Basic . If you are using it with a USB / serial converter that is probably where W7 is looking for a driver. I still used mine with Windows 7 at my old workbench. It will work fine if you get a new converter. When rr-cirkits took over with the Locobuffer II, they became "rare and collectible" . I still have the schematics and instructions if you need copies. Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane,Nick Kulp ?"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -Thomas Jefferson ? ? Found the PC board at . I may have built this, don't remember. -- Jon Miller For me time stopped in 1941 Digitrax? This is a typical symptom of an antivirus program quarantining LaunchJMRI.exe on Windows.

Is the connection not happening, or does it show as connected and you can't control anything? The reason I ask is I had a problem where it would connect, but I couldn't control my locos. In the preferences section there is a tab for default. Under this tab you will see which system controls different parts of your system. My throttle control had been switched to internal instead of NCE.

I have been reading up on other interfaces and I am reasonable sure the problem is the interface. ?Thank you for your time. ?I ordered a DIGITRAX PC3 XTRA today. ?I think this will do what I want to do.

Rick, Can you confirm that you uninstalled Java and reinstalled it?

Which browser do you use when upgrading JMRI? I wonder if that makes a difference. During the upgrade I receive the following error message:"Error opening file for writing.C:/program files (x86)\JMRI\LaunchJMRI.exeabort, retry or ignore" If I chose ignore and click on the short cut I receive the following message:"Windows cannot access the file specified device, path on file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item" I have uninstalled JMRI several times and I still get the same messages.?There is probably one step I am missing. Do you have any ideas? Thanks for your time. Gary On Thursday, August 10, 2017 8:41 PM, "walter.stanley.thompson.3@... [jmriusers]" <jmriusers@...> wrote:

ADMIN: How To Ask Your Question
======================
HOW to ask your question ====================== One of the most common questions about JMRI is "How do I get it to work?". This isn't really a problem with JMRI itself in most cases, but there are HUGE numbers of possible configurations for DCC systems, and Windows, Linux, and Mac computers out there. Just asking "How do I get it to work" is NOT going to get you any useful help. When asking ANY question, you should utilize a meaningful subject line that indicates the problem and include the following information in the body of the message: + If JMRI has started copy and paste the System Console into the body. (its under help on the start screen) + Has JMRI worked before on this computer? + Computer make and model + if you have just upgraded, from which version + Any other DCC devices in use + Specific details of your difficulty including error messages if any, or what you would like to do with JMRI. Decoder Programming, Signals, Automation, etc. Depending on the nature of the problem, you may need to supply even more information, but this is the absolute required for anyone to give you accurate answers. Signing you post helps keep the group friendly and personable! Your moderators |

We assume you are using a windows system. Is that correct? If windows open the JMRI program folder and run the install test. Let us know the results. More info would help you . What is theinterface you are using, What is the MRC command station type, How do you have the connection preferences set up. Walt |
