Walt thanks for your help but I'm tired of messing with this
So i'll just use DP with out the Slot monitor

Ive upgraded a dozen times in the past and never made any changes to My settings and the slot monitor
worked fine

Why would it change on its own this time ??????????????????????????

Ive also complained many times in the past about the factory reset not working for Wow Decoders

NO FIXES TO DATE!!!!!

So now i just use my Zephyr in blast mode>>>>IT WORKS>>DP DOES NOT

Locked Re: Roco Zimo decoder question

Hi Thomas

If identifying the decoder model doesn't give you anything, it could be that your new BR85 has got an MX645P22 with the latest SW release 37 (version number is stored in CV7). This new release is not detected by current version 4.8 (July release) or 4.9.1 (July test release).

Thus:
>>> Either just add you lok using the MX645P22 from the Version 32 Plus family
>>> Or wait for test version 4.9.2 which will detect SW release from 36 to 40

Using MX645P22 from either Version 32 Plus Family or from the future Version 36 Plus Family will have the same features as Zimo has not published any information about updates made with SW release higher than
35.

Locked JMRI Launch Issues

Reference: JMRI Ops

?I am a new user of JMRI Operations, using it foroperations only, with no plans to interface hardware on my HO railroad. I have beenworking on implementation for 10 weeks now and been able to understand thebasic operations, and have enjoyed setting things up, learning from the manualand various YouTube and related Web items. Still many cars to enter and routesto set up and verify¡ªbut I hate to continue until I solve the launch problem.

?I wrote to the forum back on August 3, andSteve ¡°Breezlys¡± responded with an idea that helped for a while. I used part ofhis solution to try a different profile, but could not understand the secondpart of his solution. I¡¯ll describe the problem again, and the things I have tried or observed.

?By the way, I was first experiencing thisproblem Version 4.6 and found the exact same description of my problem onanother model railroad forum¡ªbut suggestions from that group did not solve theissue for that guy or me¡ªjust reinstalling Panel Pro, to fix a suspectedcorrupted icon.

?Here¡¯s the background information:

Using Dell Inspiron laptop

Windows 10 Creators

Java Version 1.8.0.141

JMRI Version 4.8, updated from 4.6

No interface to HO railroad or devices in use

?The problem involves launch of JMRI. Itstarts to launch but pauses after a few seconds. Subsequent attempts result inthe message ¡°already running do you want to continue.¡± Neither ¡°yes¡± nor ¡°no¡±produce any good results. I get no other messages or warnings, and neitherSession nor Messages are created since there was no launch to report (unlessyou do Install Test¡ªand that always produces good reports, without warningsthat I can interpret, since it does launch).?
I have continued to work on my locations, routes, cars, etc., but usually in the Install Test or Demo Mode. The manualadvises against working while in the Install Test Mode but that seems to be theonly reliable way I can use the program. The changes I make are being stored inthe correct places for "My JMRI Railroad" profile, and they are there regardless ofwhether I open the program in regular, Install Test, or Demo mode.?

?On occasion I can get the program to open inregular mode, even for two of three days in a row, then the problem resurfaces, and it will only start in Install Test Mode. The one thing that often, but notalways, allows me to open in regular mode is to do a computer restart. To methat suggests the possibly the JMRI/Java shut down does always shut down correctly, and restarting the computer is the only fix. Or maybe it's just the launch, since I have had session messages showing correct closing of JMRI.

?Also a right click on the JMRIicon and then opening as administrator usually works to open in normal mode with myprofile, but only after a computer restart if launch has failed. This does notalways work, but usually eventually it will after another computer restart. Maybe that's just what I will always have to do.

?Here are some other the things I have triedor observed:

Theearlier suggestion from ¡°Breezlys¡± was to modify an existing profile or createa new one with one of the simulators selected as connection type. I did have anearlier profile and switched to it, as well as setting the launch to ask forprofile, so I can be sure the correct one is selected. The old profile workedfine for a few days, but then the problem reappeared. The second suggestion was to create a new profile with simulators to avoid a launch hang. I did a search on "simulators for connection type" but could not find an explanation I understood,so have not tried that.?
WhenJMRI hangs and will not start up I can often open the DEMO in 4.8, selecting myprofile, and it works fine. But after quitting the program and trying relaunchin either regular or Demo mode the program often will not launch again in either mode, without a computer restart.Again only a computer reboot fixes. (I do not need a computer reboot for anyother programs I use, nor have any other program hangs on launch.) I get nomessages when the program hangs, and cannot find any leads in Windows 10 taskmanager or event viewer.
?WhenI open with Install Test, JMRI opens every time, without rebooting thecomputer, using my standard profile, even if a normal or demo launch fails.Opening with Install Test has never failed.
The¡°Release Notes for JMRI 4.8 release¡± seemed to hold promise for my problem. However I cannot figure out how to try the fix. It says that 4.8 will not startcleanly if installed over earlier versions. It also says in that the Windowsinstaller ensures this is not an issue¡ªdon¡¯t understand what that means, since I usedWindows to install but still seem to have the problem.
Iwondered whether my initial use of the DEMO version in 4.6, about 10 weeks ago andthe return to ¡°my railroad¡± was the source of the problem. Just a theory. Backthen I tried to open the demo panel, as suggested to see how that works, but was unable to doso at the time. Maybe something I tried back then while using 4.6 caused theproblem. Updating to 4.8 did not solve the problem.
I¡¯vethought about trying to shut down JMRI from task manager but have not tried thatyet. Maybe that would allow a clean close, if that is the problem source.
Somerecent JMRI user postings have indicated an antivirus program could cause aconflict with launch. I use McAfee Total Protection, but could not find reportsof conflict between Java and this version of McAfee. Not to say that could notbe the issue.
Messagesand Session notes show normal start up and shut down on days I can get tonormal mode. The shut down shows as normal, but next launch may failnevertheless. When launch fails there are no message or session reports created or other warnings.
I'm running out of ideas, and hope someone can offer a solution, or explain how to proceed with earlier suggestions (either the revised profile or Release Notes for 4.8 and removing jar files.)
Thanks for any help or ideas to try. I really enjoy the operations program, just wish I could start it reliably.

Did you do New Loco->Read Type from decoder?

BTW almost all modern ESU motor decoders identify to a unique JMRI model (if your JMRI version is current). The only exception is the "LokSound Select Direct / Micro", which is actually the same decoder as far as ESU's own model identification goes (I will fix this in the fairly near future).

Actually, you need to do New Loco->Read Type from decoder.

Identify is only for existing roster entries and mainly looks at loco address (I can't remember offhand but it may also check ManufacturerID). It will not get you any closer to identifying a decoder (address is irrelevant to decoder type identification).

I made no preference changes when I up graded to 4.8
Just downloaded and installed 4.8
Everything works fine
Roster list is complete
I've programmed several locos no problem
Just a blank slot monitor

Hi

It should not matter which Zimo small scale sound decoder it is, they should all behave the same re mapping. It all depends which socket you have in the loco as to which decoder is fitted:-

PluX-22 - MX645 most likely in new H0 locos.
PluX-16 - MX648 most likely but could be MX645,
MTC-21 - MX644,
Next-18S - MX658
NEM651 6-pin - MX649,
NEM652 8-pin - Could be anything!

Be sure to read the CVs from the decoder before changing the relavent CVs and just writing the changes because some CVs determine the decoder type (I believe it is possible to turn a MX644C in to an MX644D and vice versa just by changing CVs!)

Note that 95% of My Loks are Loksound and Tsunami (of some flavor) and this is my first Zimo.
