Norman,

The train build report will show you all of the tracks available and not available from staging. Just try to build the train, and press "Cancel" for the staging track selection. The build will fail, but the report will list all 50 tracks, and why the 7 weren't available.

Hello all,

Dave, thank you for your reply.

I installed the SiLabs CP210x drivers without issue some time ago and, I have no issue with the USB Interface communicating since I can use the Withrottle portion of JMRI without issue. Whenever I send a command from my smartphone throttle, the status leds on the USB Interface flash and the locomotive responds. Hopefully I am not way off base in this assumption.

All four jumpers on the USB Interface are in the off position. This configuration remains unchanged from before this PC was wiped and upgraded.

Steve,

FYI on my Android 7.1.2 device there is no "smart network switch" setting
under the "Advanced Wi-Fi" menu. My solution to the problem is to enable
Airplane Mode to turn off the cellular connection (and the WiFi connection),
and then turn only the WiFi connection back on.

Hi Bob,

When you connect your phone to your desired network, is there an
"exclamation point" on your wifi icon at the top? (your screenshot doesn't
show the entire screen).

If so, that exclamation point may indicate the root of your problem. Some
newer phones ignore wifi connections that cannot reach the Internet. See
here; . androidpolice.com/2014/10/18/ lollipop-feature-spotlight-

If that's your issue, you need to turn off this "feature'. On my phone,
under Wifi, Advanced, the option is called "Smart Network Switch". Turn that
off and see if you can connect.

This is becoming a common issue for Android users trying to connect to a
wifi network without Internet connection.

According to the Lenz portion of the help files; Lenz is supposed to be able to work with all JMRI functions but the info stated that if you still get the Error message; # 303 in my case then report back to the JMRI user groups page which is what I am now doing!

thank you for all & any assistance!

Locked Re: Trouble with JMRI throttle

Mick,

You are correct. I was thinking of "Idle" status, but for some reason my keyboard typed "Stop".

In "Idle" status, track power is ON but control of mobile decoders is disabled. Thus, lights and sound, if previously on and/or if triggered by track power, will activate, but you cannot otherwise control locos. This status is indicated by the flashing track power dot on the DTxxx throttles.

JMRI will function on pretty much any computer that can run Windows XP and Java 8. I would recommend at least 1 GB of RAM.

Locked Re: Error # 303

Follow this write up and let us know what yo find. Trouble shooting programming track problems
DCS is you Digital Command Station

GENERAL
If you get short detected on the programming track (309) remove the loco and try again. If you still get 309's isolate more.

If you get no loco detected, short the programming track and you should get a different error.

Digitrax Systems:
1. Verify connection between DCS and the Programming track:
Using a hand held throttle read CV8.
If this fails JMRI can not read or write CV¡¯s on the programming track.

2. Verify connection between JMRI and the DCS.

2a *If using a Locobuffer interface adapter go to ¡°LoconetMontior LocoNet stats¡± after clicking this the panel that displays should have some data in it.

2b.*If using an MS100, open Tool Power Control in JMRI and turn the track power On/Off. Then using a ¡°Handheld Throttle¡± turn the track power On/Off assuring that the JMRI Power Control tool screen changes with the Handhelds cmds. . (note, this takes two power On¡¯s to get the track power turned On)

3. Verify connection between JMRI and the programming track.

3a. With out a programming track booster.
With no loco on the programming track.. Open the ¡®Service-Mode¡± programmer, and click the ¡°Read type from decoder.¡± The bottom of the screen should display ¡°Stopping due to error, No locomotive detected (301), No acknowledge from locomotive (308).¡± If you short the programming track you should get a response of just No acknowledge from locomotive (308). Reconnect Using a ¡°Handheld¡± throttle assure that CV8 can be read.

3b. With a PowerPax booster with no loco on the programming track or if the programming track is shorted, the error message will be ¡°No Acknowledge from Locomotive (308)¡±

If this all works JMRI should be able to read CV¡¯s from this loco on the programming track.

Digitrax PR3 in Stand alone mode:

On the JMRI start pane click on Loconet and then Moniotor Loconet Stats. The screen that open should have numbers in the fields.

With out a loco on the PR3¡¯s programming track doing a read with a JMRI Service mode programmer should post on the bottom of the screen "Programmer error: No locomotive detected (301); No acknowledge from locomotive (308)".

With the PR3¡¯s programming track shorted doing a read with a JMRI Service mode programmer should post on the bottom of the screen " No acknowledge from locomotive (308)".

If those three things happen you should be able to program decoders on the Programming track. We recommend a power supply for the PR3 of 16 to 18 VDC for best results.

EasyDCC

1. Verify connection between the Digital Command Station (DCS) and the Programming track: Using the Command Station Read CV8. See pages 49 and 50 in your manual.

2. Verify connection between JMRI and the DCS.
Select the EasyDCC tab on the first JMRI screen that opens. Select CommandMonitor , Then Send Command. In the send command screen that opens type V then click Send. You should then see the version number on the Command Monitor screen.

3. If this all works JMRI should be able to read CV¡¯s from this loco on the programming track.

NCE Systems:

1. Verify connection between DCS and the Programming track:
Using a hand held throttle read CV8.
If this fails JMRI can not read or write CV¡¯s on the programming track.

2. Verify connection between JMRI and the DCS.
When you first start DecoderPro or PanelPro the connection should display in black. If it doesn¡¯t then the driver for your USB to serial adapter is not working or you have the wrong com port selected. If after a few seconds the connection displayed turns Red the connection to the command station from the serial adapter is not working. If the connection displayed stays black the System Console, under help, will display the rev of the software in the DCS and JMRI has a connection to the Command Station.

If this all works JMRI should be able to read CV¡¯s from this loco on the programming track

The NCE Power Pro command station has a habit of "getting lost" when reading a large number of CVs with JMRI. The symptom is a rapidly flashing light on the command station and no communications.

Considering that the ESU Function Map has 640 CVs (and the whole decoder has ~1,000 CVs) you are quite likely to see this problem with the Power Pro and ESU decoders.

Fortunately there is a simple workaround:
- VERY IMPORTANT: Do not quit JMRI or click on "Stop Reading". Do not touch JMRI.
- Turn off the power to your NCE Power Pro command station.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Turn the NCE Power Pro back on again and wait patiently.
- Eventually JMRI will reestablish contact with the Power Pro and continue reading.
- Repeat the above procedure as often as required until JMRI says OK.
- VERY IMPORTANT: Do a "Read Changes on Sheet" (or "Read Changes on All Sheets" if reading all sheets). JMRI will pick up the ones it missed when contact was lost.
- Repeat the step immediately above as often as required until JMRI does not find anything to read (watch the status line at the bottom of the Sheet window).

Lenz Systems:
1. Verify connection between DCS and the Programming track. Using a hand held throttle read CV8. If this fails JMRI can not read or write CV¡±s on the programming track.

Verify connection from digital command station and JMRI by selecting XPressnet>XpressnetSystemInformation. Click on ¡°Get System Info¡±, all fields should come back filled in. If problems are encountered see .

If this all works JMRI should be able to read CV¡¯s from this loco on the programming track

SPROG

Verify connection.
Main menu bar should have SPROG. Click on SPROG, then "Get SPROG Firmware Version". You should see something like"SPROG II USB v.x". If you get "Timeout talking to SPROG" you do not have connection.

For programming the System manufacturer in the JMRI Preferences file needs to be set for SPROG DCC and SPROG as the System connection to program decoders. (If the System connection is set to "SPROG Command Station" you can control up to 16 locomotives, but may only "program on the main".)

With no loco on the track, open the `Service-Mode" programmer, and click the "Read type from decoder." The bottom of the screen should display "Stopping due to error, No locomotive detected (301)."
If you short the programming track you should see "Found mfg -1 version -1; no such manufacturer defined". Also on the bottom you should se a 309 error.

Locked Re: DR5000 XpressNet

To access the loco slots on a DR5000 you need to connect to it via a Digitrax connection. I normally connect via the USB port which allows JMRI to connect by both Loconet and Xpressnet and also the DR5000 configuration software all at the same time on virtual com ports with the one cable.
From JMRI's Digitrax slot monitor you can clear slots etc.

On Xpressnet, loco function setting (F1), MU, stack and other functions do not work. It also doesn't report stack full, but will report slots full on a Digitrax throttle.
As the DR5000 is updatable, they may add these functions in the future. The RS bus has been added in the last year and a WiFi throttle is supposed to be in the works,
I haven't had success connecting a computer by WiFi, but have only tried once and the tablet I use doesn't have ethernet, so haven't done that either. I have used a LIUSB on Xpressnet which also works with JMRI.

Locked Add-on hardware throttle?

I would like a hardware throttle (with a rheostat, and buttons) to control
my SPROG test track. Ideally, it would be a simple device, maybe based on
an Arduino, which would input commands to the JMRI program through a USB
port. I looked at the RailDriver from P.I. industries, but it is too fancy
and too expensive. Does such a thing exist? I haven't jumped into
programming JMRI extensions, but it must be possible - RailDriver does it.
Is there an existing interface/protocol that can be used?

Dave,
Having read your advice in the link NCE Consisting - Mark Gurries I have the following question, which arises from a problem with consisting on my layout: As you say, when setting up advance consists with NCE, the first one defaults to the address 127. I have discovered that, retaining that number, when I then select the lead locos address in order to drive the consist, a lot of my turnouts change! I am using mainly Hornby point motors and accessory decoders but also some Peco point motors. If I change the consist address to 126, the problem disappears. I appreciate that this is not a JMRI problem but, as I have been unable to get an answer elsewhere, I am wondering if you can explain it.
Kind regards,Harold.

You can upload your panel for the group to take a look at and see if we spot any errors. Something you can try in the mean time. Save the panel and reload it. Sometimes a restart is needed for the logic to take effect. When you reload you will have to set your block sensors to inactive unless you have a script set up to do so.
