Re: Announcing version 3.00 of Model Railroad Switch List And Manifest Formatter #MRSLAMFormatter #operationspro

Something else I was thinking about is that you are maybe reinventing the wheel a bit by keeping your own database (so it appears) of field selections, rather than just using what JMRI already has.??

Re: Announcing version 3.00 of Model Railroad Switch List And Manifest Formatter #MRSLAMFormatter #operationspro

Thank you for writing this.? It's a useful program.? I have done some testing and have found the following issues when checking the "Auto fit field text" checkbox.? I have the page size set to Letter and page Orientation set to Portrait.
?
1. For some reason the width of the manifest does not take up the width of the page.? As a result, the destination track wraps to the second line, even though there is lots of room on the right-hand side.? This even happens when printing in landscape.? Perhaps I am missing a setting.? Example in the screenshot is "Cargill Grain".??
?
2. The "Set Out Car Data Layout" line is set to red, but it still prints in black.?
?
Suggestions for future enhancements:
?
1. It would be nice if we could select any field that is available in JMRI.? I currently display "Division" on my manifest but don't have that option here.
2. When selecting a manifest to process, the default should be the "details" view, and the list should be sorted by most recent manifest at the top.?
?
Please let me know if you need any more information.

This would be more suited for a DCC-Ex forum as it's not JMRI related

DCC-EX CSB1 run trains and control kato turnouts? #dcc-ex

Can a single CSB1 run trains and control turnouts?
I would like to power the turnouts from a 2nd motor shield piggy-backing on top of the first.?

My guess is to designate the turnouts in the arduino my layout.h?file.
i am new to DCC, so any help would be great

Run a roster index to rebuild the roster. Likely the update messed it up or prevented the update of it. It is in the Debug menu.

Roster Missing

Was using JMRI to program some locos when the computer suddenly decided to do some update. Closed JMRI and waited for the update conclusion. Then reloaded JMRI and discovered that the roster file was gone. Absolutely empty.
?
Did a couple of reloads, same problem.
?
I am hoping that the file is still in the computer, but the link to load it vanished. Is there a specific name for the roster file that I can reload if it is indeed there?
?
Any suggestions or ideas greatly? welcome.

Re: Question with regards to using schedules #operationspro

Ashley,

Here's a schedule that demands a coal car with a load of "Coal" and ships out a load of "MTY" to Lakeview which is staging on my railroad.

Can you provide us with a screenshot of your schedule?? In the schedule you should demand for your coal car a load of coal "LD coal" and ship out "MTY coal" to your staging.? When you created the "MTY coal" did you make it a load type "Empty"?

Question with regards to using schedules #operationspro

I was wondering on the layout that I operate on we have several customers that all receive loads of coal and ship out empties.
I am thinking that I can just create a schedule (call it coal) that will allow me to have my fleet of hoppers run in cycle of coming in from staging loaded getting routed to the industries and then the empties going back off line to be reloaded.
?
Currently I have set up custom loads of LD coal and MTY coal but I am having the issues that when the car gets empty they end up getting routed whichever way the computer decides to do. which create an issue of the cars not getting back to the proper staging location to get reloaded. I have also set it to where the car is empty to return it to said staging area (in this Case Omaha to interchange with the UP). I also get a message saying that car may not return to destination due to load (E) for some reason I can change it to say MTY coal.
?
Thank you?

Ashley??

Re: Add custom items to mqtt topic #mqtt

Hi
?
That is a cool hack. I like the idea of including the / in the name! However it is still a work around. I guess there is no way of telling jmri to use a specific set of properties (including custom ones) to derive the MQTT topic. This of course does not just apply to turnouts but other 'named beans'!?

Re: NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

And, for what it's worth, I tried slowing down the commands and even added a line of code to resend commands automatically. It seemed as if the light-it was just overwhelmed. It was an ugly few months for me tracing, retracing, and retracing logix over and over before I ripped them out and replaced with signalman.

Re: NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

Been there, done that. Light-it's can not keep up with the commands. I wired up a bunch of them and ended up ripping them all out and replacing it with RRCircuits Signalman product. RRCircuits performance has been 100% over 2 years now even with complex logix. I actually documented all this on my youtube channel linked below if youd like to check it out.?

When I set up a new Windows 11 computer with JMRI and a Digitrax PR4, I frequently received "unable to read decoder" errors, even with a verified COM port.? It was not predictable.? I tried plugging and unplugging and substituting cables, and at one point thought I had solved my problem with a different USB cable, only to have the errors recur.

I came to suspect that the issue is really related to in-computer interference from some sort of junk commercial programs that came pre-installed on the new computer, which want to connect to the Internet when the computer starts, but can't because I am not turning on the WiFi.

Try getting everything set up and powered before turning on the computer, and then wait for several minutes before opening JMRI and trying to read a decoder.??

MIGHT work, but might not.??

Let us know, please.

Re: Add custom items to mqtt topic #mqtt

P -
?
I do exactly what you suggest. ?My turnouts are named to include the id of the microcontroller that is controlling them (in my case, ESP32s).? For example, I have ESP32 named 3Way01 controlling the two turnouts associated with a 3 way (numbered 01? and 02).? I created them with the following system names:
?
E32-3Way01/01
E32-3Way01/02
?
Note that the MC node is part of the turnout system name (as is the /).? JMRI will then send on topic as proscribed by my config, which follows the example in the JMRI MQTT documentation:
?
trains/jSend/to/E32-3Way01/01
trains/jSend/to/E32-3Way01/02
?
My ESP32 sketch subscribes to:
?
trains/jSend/to/E32-3Way01/#
?
Other ESP32s similarly subscribe to TOs attached to their id.
?
BTW, you might also check the MQTT group:? MQTT4MR.

Re: Add custom items to mqtt topic #mqtt

Hi - you could just explicitly subscribe to the topics you want to subscribe to anyway - probably the quickest way to achieve it.
?
Something like
?
? ? ? client.subscribe("track/turnout/T101");
? ? ? client.subscribe("track/turnout/T102");

etc.
?
Or a loop that will insert the relevant ID on the end for you.

NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

Query from a Nimble Newbie,
How many commands can one send at a time from an "if-then" Logix statement? E.g. IF sensor 'x' goes 'active' THEN....switch Signal '1' to danger, signal '2' to caution, signal 3 to 'clear', turn on coffee pot, etc...
It seems to THEN part of the statement fires odd the commands so quickly that the NCE system misses some of the actions [somewhat randomly]. Not a wiring issue.
Is there a way of slowing down, or at least separating out [even by milliseconds] the list of ACTIONS to occur upon a given antecedent?
