Re: Making a plant switcher work correctly
#operationspro
Hi Pete and thank you, thank you. You spent a lot of time on this...but...theres always a but.
?
When Cov Hoppers are taken to the Interchange they will be empty. When they turn around thats when the have corn in them.?
The 4bay Cov Hoppers are the only ones that carry DDG. So they would be loaded when taken to the interchange and empty when they head back to the ADM plant for refilling.?
Same with the ethanol tank cars. Loaded with ethanol when arriving at the interchange. Empty coming back to be reloaded.
?
Thats all so far. I wanted to do this a step at a time to keep my thoughts straight.
Again a big thank you for your work. |

Re: Current state of DMX support on Apple Silicon Macs?
#mac-m1
#powerline
开云体育Hi, This thread brings up another subject/option. We were/are having
some DMX-512 issues at church, so I was looking into the protocol.
Naturally the next thought was can we do this over LCC with a
suitable node. (similar to the Signal LCC 32H but a 512H) Assuming
that is possible, the real question becomes one of what would a
packet need to contain. Simplistically it would be a set of 512 x
7 bit well known events. (512 channels x 128 levels each as
separate EventIDs) The devil in the details is that you would only
want to send change commands on the network, and the node would
take care of repeating it to the DMX-512 network. More into the
details is would you need to have per-determined fades and/or
effects, or would JMRI take care of that? I.e. the concept of
'transition time parameter' mentioned by Paul. Does this sound reasonable to control with time events and/or sensor EventIDs, or would it need events with data? I have never looked into the way that JMRI can control 'Lights'
with LCC in mind. To me 'Lights' always seemed to be similar to
turnouts, and I didn't think about them having 'brightness' nor
how to include that data into an event. Obviously with DMX you
have three things that you need to deal with, and suddenly you
can't map time, plus item #, plus item intensity, into EventIDs
easily. Dick :) On 3/17/2025 6:59 AM, Ken Cameron

Re: BDL 716 etc
#digitrax
@BobJacobsen - not sure if anyone responded. We are using a 716 (and a 168) - and have the latest version of JMRI and can install test versions/etc. What do you need to write a decoder definition for it? We can help.
?
While the 716 seems to be working, I have noticed unexpected behavior on occasion. For example, a sensor(s) will go inactive when occupied and nothing has moved. The hack is to clear the section/re-occupy the section and the sensor is back active (and behaving). It may be related to toggling layout power or restarting JMRI - but have not found a pattern.

Just Upgraded to Decoder Pro 5.10 and Java 17, now NCE Power Pro and JMRI won't talk
#nce
?Hi,? ?I'm new here, mostly because my Decoder Pro and NCE system(s) have gotten along well for years through various computers and upgrades...now I've hit a wall, so any insights appreciated.?
?
? Here's the hardware basics.?
?
? ?NCE Power Pro 9 pin serial port command stations. Have two, tried two and same result.?
?
? ? NCE latest Chip installed in both command stations, "March 22, 2021"?
?
? ? Computer: Lenovo Pentium Silver N6000? 4.0 GB ram.? Windows 11.? ?Using Com Port 3.??
?
? ? Here's the situation, shifting Java and JMRI versions? mentioned? as follows.?
?
? ? For about two years, I've been using this set up with JMRI 5.2 and Java 11.? Aside from occasional hiccups, a pretty solid arrangement.?
?
? ? Now I just received two locomotives with Soundtraxx Blunami decoders.? Went to create a new locomotive file in Decoder Pro? it wouldn't download the data.? Figured, newest decoders...time for an upgrade to the latest version from JMRI.?
?
? ? ?Went to upgrade to version 5.10.? Says while it would work better with Java 17, would also be expected to work with Java 11.? Decided to play it safe and stick with Java 11 for now.?
? ? ? ? ?When bringing up Decoder Pro I received the dreaded red words.? "Service Mode Programmer NCE Is Offline"? - " Operations Mode Programmer NCE is Offline"? Despite everything? which follows, this has not changed.? ?
?
? ? ? ?Next step, ok let's try Java 17--installed Java 17.? No change.??
?
? ? ? ?Then I took a risk, and installed JMRI 5.11.4, which is still under evaluation.? Again. No Change.? The NCE and JMRI are still not on speaking terms.?
?
? ? ? ?Now, before anyone asks, the USB to Serial port cable came to me directly from NCE several years ago and had just been working.? When I plug and unplug, it makes that booping sound, which means it's seeing something, but no communications.? And besides, again, it was just working fine.??
?
? ? ? ? Here's one area I suspect may be a problem, which is the Com Port 3 driver, which had not been an issue under JMRI 5.2 and Java 11 on my Windows 11 laptop.??
?
? ? ? ?This is what shows up under driver files for "USB to Serial Cable (COM3): ? C:\WINDOWS\System32\serenup.sys (along with) C:\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\SVK9PL64? ?And of course, Device Manager says everything is working properly.?
?
? ? ? ? In poring over the NCE, as well as JMRI trouble shooting pages and doing other on? line searching, it appears there are more drivers that don't show up on my machine.? But those posts go back many years to much earlier versions of both JMRI and JAVA.? I honestly cannot say there was anything more on my machine prior to this,? because it all worked.
?
? ? ? ?If there is a new driver I need which would work with the newest setup, let me know...along with a few hints on how to install it.??
?
? ? ? ?Anyway, thanks in advance.? I hope this isn't one of those obvious things that I've missed...but I'm about 6 or 7 hours into this already and going crazy.? I've tried to keep this note to the essentials, but have more data available, but all the boxes I can open appear to be checked correctly within Decoder Pro, such as port, baud rate etc.? But I can pull it back up if anyone thinks that would help.? ?

To answer Inobu One, I am using a service called Voice Monkey, so they are managing the API, I am not setting up a direct connection. Bob, I did truncate the web link to remove the token and the device ID, so you are correct that the URL is not complete. Hence why I missed the closing ". It seems like the LogixNG solution will be simpler for me, maybe, so I will try that first.

Thanks everyone!!

Re: New Apple computer
Yes use Time Machine on a SSD drive, I use it for my backup and just changed from a 2015 iMac to a new Mac Mini.
Started the Mini up and migrated from the Time Machine drive and a few hours later had all my files and apps running on the Mini, no installing, copying etc.

Re: PanelPro Startup
开云体育Dave Try using a separate profile using a simulator connection, but using the same file location. Then you can use your exisiting panel file to experiment with using the new profile, but any modified file will be available using the "normal" profile. That is how I do it. PanelPro Startup
Hi,
?
I am using PanelPro wirh MERG and a SPROG and everything is great,

But I want to build the Panel and develop scripts without the MERG hardware and SPROG connected, and PanelPro will not open the panel unless the hardware is present.
?
Is there a way to be able to do that ?

Many thanks

Re: Making a plant switcher work correctly

Ok John,
?
I was holding off with a reply, figuring some help might be forthcoming.
?
Since this appears to be a rephrased post from the original question, I am guessing that you didn't get the results you are looking for, from the replies you received.
Let me see if I can offer a workable suggestion that addresses your want list from the original post. ? ?
The following suggestions create a basic approach to answer your issues. ?They involve all your stated tracks at ADM, but I use only the one other location for the Local train, which I call "Interchange". ?If you want to add more tracks or other locations to the Local's route, you can certainly do this, but my example needs only the one track in "Interchange".?
?
The key to all this interchange of cars is the correct track-type assignments and filters thereon. ?Here are my suggestions as well as images for how I set things up...
?
Locations: uses only 2
?
?
Car types: uses only 2 (no images, as you should know about cars and how to edit)
? ?
?
Trains: ?uses only 2 (again, no images, 'cause see above about Cars)
?
?
Routes: uses only 2 (images 14 & 15)
?
?
Altogether, this example allowed me to build either train and see the movement results that I believe you stipulated in your post. ?One small hiccup being that occasionally, when an MTY Grain Hopp was sent to any of the Yard storage tracks (4-6), it could then sometimes be assigned to return to "Interchange" for loading with corn. ?This occured when no space was available at DDG loading when the Plant switcher was built. ?I can offer a small setup correction if you prefer this not happen, but I considered it a small offset to the overall working flow since the cars will move either way.
?
If any of this seems fuzzy, let me know and we'll defuzzify with more help...
?
Happy to help, hope it helps,
<Pete Johnson>

Re: Lock Control Panel Position on Tablet
Vinny, it appears that the web page is larger than the tablet viewport, so scrolling is the expected behavior. Try it with a smaller panel and see if that solves the issue.
If it does, you may be able to simply remove some of the web page details (like the footer) and eliminate the scrolling without having to modify your panel.
