I dont know what sprog and arduino is but i assume its cheaper.

For the direction sensors just define a bunch of sensors in your sensor table. Then when you define each ssl signal place a sensor for the 2 directions where it asks for it in the window that your using. ?They are not actual sensors but placeholders four ssl logic to use. ?I use ssl signals on jmri. ?No physical signals so they dont add cost.?

Most people using automation claim sml signals are better. ?If i remember correctly sml are not placed at switches. ?When have switches in the block It causes the train to stop a block further than the signal is. At least thats what happens when i tried sml.

Using ssl if block 1 is occupied then block 2 behind it is where the train following it will stop. Thus with only a 6 block loop and setting allocations it 2 instead of 3 you can get 2 trains running on that loop.?

Hello Michael,

The way I've always understood it C/I (Classification / Interchange) tracks are used to route cars from one train to another to get them to their final destination while yard tracks are used mostly for car storage.? An example is I use yard tracks for Off Spot storage,?while with C/I tracks I can specify which trains can make pick ups and set?outs to specific tracks.? Hope this helps.

Some folks are just not linear.
When doing support calls, I usually give the user only one step at a time. Do this, done? do that, done? etc.
Some MFGs have better instructions than others. The SPROG instructions are very easy to follow (for me), but you need to print them out before you start as you will be rebooting the PC at least twice.

Personally, I think a lot of these problems are self-inflicted.

Several years ago, I tried helping someone with their interface device (on a different list) because at the time I had the exact same interface device and OS. The ONLY way I could reproduce the failure they were reporting was to deliberately NOT follow the manufacturer's installation instructions!

I see the same thing here - One of the developers will ask someone to do A, then B, then C in that order and report the EXACT results from each. The OP then replies, "Well, I tried 1, then 3, then 2 and it still doesn't work!"

There are already write-ups on the manufacturers websites for installing drivers for their devices. This is not an issue of JMRI with windows 10.

Locked Re: Layout Editor Feature Request #layouteditor

Dave,

The VAST majority of the time the object is a turnout.
Some how?I have grabbed one of the legs & really moved the object beyond recognition.
I do the basic layout at a zoom ratio (in this case it is 1:10) that lets me see the entire layout.
I've never tried to set the zoom to 1:4 to re-adjust the turnout back to normal but that should work.

If I use your implied undo, then I need to be doing more save's.
And that is something I'm learning & is simple enough to do.
There are times I've seen the save being saved with the a date/time stamp append to the file name.
That is a better way (to me) to name a backup but the date/time stamp is not there consistently for me.
What do I need to do to get that to be appended on every save?
It saves the message about overwriting the file.

What I've done is to delete some of these multiple detail saves & only keep the "major" saves.
Looking at the LEPanel xml in Visual Studio, I've noticed there is a section labeled file history.
I'm guessing that those that have no file name listed are those files that I deleted?
Do I care about the blank entries or do they eventually get cleaned out?

If I could (make it an option?) get the save to always append a date/time stamp, that is great.
Saving is simple so then an undo is not needed.

Thanks.

There has been a lot of traffic on both Digitrax and JMRI. And of course, others that I'm not aware of. About connecting to JMRI with Windows 10. But I see similarity between the questions re. SPROG, PR3/4 & LocoBuffer. Apparently they all have trouble. And from what I can gather, the cure or fix is in Windows and appears to be the same fix. Disable the driver download from the Device Manager and install the driver direct from the source. So what I'm opening up here is "why don't someone write a simple step by step solution that can be in the Files". And whenever a newbie tries to connect to Windows 10, simply refer them to that file and stop all this traffic on the forums that seem to repeat themselves. If I'm wrong about the solution being the same for all/SPROG,PR3/4,LocoBuffer and/or any other, then I apologize for this. I'm new to JMRI and can only state what has been said many times. It's the greatest gift to MR and DCC ever. Morgan Bilbo, PRR fan

I don't remember the difference between yard and I/C but the way things were explained to me in the begining I could not see why the way I wanted to run my RR why one would ever pick yard over I/C so I chose I/C works great for me. Cars coming in to the "yard" are sorted by next destination on the tracks which cuts down on the amount of switching done in the "yard" for outbound crews. Most of the time my crews kick 1 or 2 cars out of a track jjust because the is no place to go at that time.
I think it was Inspector Dave that got me on that particular rabbit hole. It works just the way it's supposed to in my mind, Thanks.?

Interesting question that I have never seen before: combining two decoders into one definition file and subsequently a single roster entry.?
Could be done as these decoder do have a series of shared and not shared CV's.

A custom definition file needs to be built.? Combining Digitrax_SFX.xml with Digitrax_01x3.xml? or portions of both.

There is no JMRI tool to combine two definitions into a single Roster entry.

Howard,

When the PR4 lights alternate Red/Green, that means that the PR4 is in "Ops programming mode". You will need to press the "ops" button to "exit ops mode". This is mentioned in the Digitrax "Knowledge Base" article KB1057, available at .

Locked Re: PR4 configuring for Standalone LocoNet #pr4 #loconet

Howard,

In my experience, Rich S's statement that "The Digitrax PR4 will only work on COM Port 3" _IS NOT TRUE_.

My current JMRI configurations on a Windows machine show that I have successfully used PR4 devices at COM7 and COM17, including one JMRI configuration profile where I had set-up two different LocoNet connections, one per PR4.

So far as I know, the whole idea behind a "COM port number" is solely something used by the operating system as a convenient "handle" to allow software to communicate with a "communications hardware" device. The PR4 itself has absolutely no idea of the COM port number the software and operating system use. If the PR4 did require knowledge of that COM port number, then how could it be used with computers running Linux and OSX operating systems, which do NOT identify communications devices via "COM port number"? I have no problems running JMRI with the PR4 under Linux!

Do you have a BDL16, BDL162, or BDL164 board? Will it be used with the Standalone LocoNet? If not, then ignore Russ's message, as it would be irrelevant.

If you do have at least one of those boards, and you will use it on your Standalone LocoNet, then you will need to configure exactly ONE BDL16x board for those settings. The settings can be made using a LocoNet throttle plugged directly into the LocoNet jack of a powered-up BDL16x board, by following the directions for configuring OpSw settings in the BDL16x manual. If you do not have a LocoNet throttle, then I think you are "out of luck" for programming the BDL16x to those settings until you come up with an alternate solution for both "LocoNet Data Signal Termination" and "power on the RailSync" wires (as described in the web page I previously linked).

Billybob
