I am familiar with your warning recommendations, but have not had a problem when doing this in the last year, but unsuccessful getting the xml file now. I hoped to avoid a full upgrading. Been using JMRI for a more than 10 years, but I don't do this every day. I just changed DCC systems and have everything working fine at this point. (If not broke - don't fix it). I have run into issues before when upgrading. I still use an old laptop running Win XP that is dedicated to programming locomotives only. I have problems with updating Java and other things, so that is why I was hoping someone could just explain why one cannot simply download the one file from the JMRI website. I'd like to try this and if I have problems, I can always undertake the challenge of upgrading the whole program.

Test version 4.19.1 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download
Happy New Year!
Test version 4.19.1 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download. This is the first in a series of test releases that will culminate in a production release, hopefully in early Summer 2020. There have been a lot of updates in this version, so it should be considered experimental. If you are currently using an older version of JMRI, particularly if it¡¯s earlier than JMRI 4.16, there¡¯s a sequence of updates that will reduce the chance of problems. They¡¯re described at the front of the release note: <> For more information on the issues, new features and bug fixes in 4.19.1 please see the release note: <> Note that JMRI is made available under the GNU General Public License. For more information, please see our copyright and licensing page. <> The download links, along with lots of other information which we hope you'll read, can be found on the release note page: <> Bob -- Bob Jacobsen rgj1927@... |

Your JMRI version is really old and a lot of changes have been made. Chances are the definition will not work because of those changes or missing parts not downloaded. See the warning on the page you linked

How to download one decoder definition?
#definitions
I have done this before, but nothing seems to work now. How do I download one decoder definition .xml file from:
No where on the page that leads you there () does it state how to copy, save as, etc. an xml file to your computer. When I click on the file it opens, but when I copy the url, first, I cannot paste it into the "Import URL" option in DP, nor can I "Save As". I tried copying selected text and pasted into MS Word, then renamed as an xml file, but DP then reports that it is not a valid xml file. Why so complicated? Honestly, I'd rather not update the whole JMRI/DP program please. Running DP 4.10.Rxxxx Windows Bob P |

Re: Changing Car Type
#operationspro
One thing, as a newbie, I'm learning, is that when learning JMRI, I run multiple sessions?over and over in minutes to see how actions work, what goes where, how cars flow etc. But in practice, if you operate the physical layout, once a month, and a car is called once every 6th time or even 12th time for an industry, that's only once or twice a calendar year. Which I think is the end goal at some level to see something only show up rarely.? And, if you have say 4 schedules for an industry, with percentages, you'll see the lower ones used less often, which is the goal, but eventually, it does get called.? Just tons of options. Curious which option works?best for you.? Mike O'Neill Parker, CO On Wed, Jan 1, 2020 at 9:41 AM <gerardh1031@...> wrote: My current thinking is to create two of the same location. Hi Steve
The panel was created with Panel Editor. It seems weird that it is only turnouts with more than two roads that are affected. I have uploaded a copy of the xml file into the files area.? The file is named Ordsall park rd mk2 regards Brian |

My thanks for your suggestions. My concern with schedules is the repetitive nature unless the schedule is canceled.

Roger,
One thing to keep in mind about any 'drive on' programming track, some locos move while being programmed! Early ones were the worst, they could move feet if you were doing a complete rewrite of the CV's. Most modern ones are smart enough to alternate the direction of the 'ack' pulse so they just dither in place. But even with those, they can creep along. Given that modern sound decoders might take thousands of writes to configure, if the mechanism of the loco favors one direction or the other, it could still creep. The point is many use a physical barrier, look up 'smash board', you'll get an idea. The other is some use a 4PDT switch so there is a dead block between the programming track and the rest of the layout. That way if a loco was creeping, it would lose contact with the programming track before it could bridge to the main track. Any connection between the main track power and the programming track power will fail components. IE loss of magic smoke. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |
Inobu,
This is wrong, it doesn't work the way you claim. You said: ---- On boot up JMRI is looking to contact the Power Cab Command station but it will not be able to communicate with it until NCE USB interface is established. The NCE USB interface will not go active until it gets a Cab ID. After the Power Cab gives the Cab ID to the USB interface its not looking to do anything else and that handshake transaction is complete. Mean while JMRI is reporting no communication with the Power Cab and just cycles through. ----- The NCE USB has a cab id set in its internal configuration. The value of the cab id is based on a few things: which jumper settings, which firmware version, and use of the 'set cab id' option. The latter only changes the default cab id if the right choice of jumpers is being used. Many of the jumper settings force it to cab id 3. Only if the jumpers are set right, and a 'set cab id' has been done, would any other id be used by the NCE USB. All JMRI is doing on its startup is asking which settings are in the interface. That's the whole purpose of the AA command. JMRI has no care about which cab id the interface is programmed to use. It would seem you've gotten off on the wrong foot with this statement. Now it is correct that until the AA command works, other traffic to the NCE USB will not work either. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: Layout Editor: issue connecting two turnouts
#layouteditor
George -
i can consistently get the following situation to exhibit the issue: panels->new panel->layout editor options->grid options->show grid in edit mode [turn this off] options->grid options->snap when adding options->grid options->snap when moving turnout RH: shift-click to put this somewhere on panel turnout LH: shift-click to put this to the right of the first TO aligned horizontally but not touching right click/hold on the red square of the points end of the LH TO and drag (extending the line of the TO) to try to connect to the red square on the normal end of the RH TO. ?[ I can¡¯t get these to connect] alternatively, if I extend the normal end of the RH TO to attempt to meet the points and of the LH TO, that won¡¯t connect either. If I move the entire LH TO, it will connect most of the time (I thought I had a time or two when it didn¡¯t connect, but I couldn¡¯t reproduce consistently). ?Also, as I play around with extending and moving the ends of the TOs, there are times when I can no longer grab the points and of the TO which I extended. ?Obviously a somewhat obscure bug somewhere. ?
Hope this helps in debugging. ?As I said, there is an easy workaround of just adding a track segment between the TOs manually so definitely not a high priority.
And thanks for making Layout Editor such an incredibly useful and sophisticated tool!
