One thing to add. If the roster.xml file and the locoxxx.xml and images are supposed to be in two separate locations, then the <>???is incorrect. According to it, they should be in the same directory.

"Roster Location (portable name = "roster:")This location contains:
  • Your "roster" folder. This contains:
    • An XML file for each loco entry in your roster, with stored CV values, etc.
    • ".bak" files, which are backup versions of entries in your roster.
    • A "consist" folder, which stores information on consists you have created using the Consist tools in JMRI.
  • A "roster.xml" file, which is a (recreatable) index of the XML files in the "roster" folder. You should create/recreate "roster.xml" (Actions->Recreate Roster Index) if it is missing or you are experiencing roster problems.
  • Copies of media files you have added to roster entries, throttles etc.?
(Older JMRI versions stored roster images in a "resources" folder in the User Files Location. If you have been using JMRI for a long time, you may have roster images in both locations.)

By default the Roster Location is the same as (and follows) the User Files location unless you explicitly set a different location.

You are free to change the Roster Location as you like (Preferences->Roster->Roster->Location Set/Reset). The Reset button causes the Roster Location to again follow the User Files location."

Roger,
Stopping is based on block length vs. train length, and whether or not you have resistor wheel sets checked. Or there's different logic if you have a speed profile for that loco.
What are those values in your situation? Are they accurate?

Dave and all,
The Roster directory, which is where Roster Location currently points to,? indeed contains the roster.xml file, the Locoxxx.xml files, and the image files. Dave, it also has a nested Roster directory in it which also contains all of the Locoxxx.xml files and image files. Curiously, it also contains a Consist directory which contains a Consist.xml file. I was fiddling with the Consist Tool on July 25 and that's the date on both the directory and Consis.xml file. I didn't create them so it must have been done by the software and put here for some reason. I didn't create either of the nested Roster or Consist directory, at least on purpose.
What I propose to do is move the roster.xml file out of the Roster directory and into the User Files area and repoint the Roster Location Setting to this new location.?
Below is the file structure requested.

Nigel,

A lot of the constraints in Layout Editor no longer exist. There are have been a lot of changes in the last couple of years.

Here is a CTC panel created using Layout Editor:

Jim,

Thank you for your thoughts.

Checking the BIOS settings is a good hint. Hadn't thought of this angle.

All indications from Device Manager are that the drivers are properly installed and operating; no indication of any 'mystery device.' I'd checked this before calling Dick and again with Dick. Also checked after re-installing the drivers.

I'm confident the '3rd party' Dick has on the RR-CirKits web site didn't leave a 'stuck driver.' Dick uses this for the more common situation of a user not fully installing the drivers. We used it here as a 'last-ditch' effort just in case; we were already quite certain I'd correctly installed the drivers (as I've done many times for both myself and others.)

Dick's customer service is 'over-the-top,' amongst the best I've seen in any business. He and I are both baffled by this; something we've never seen. We both hope to learn something that will help others.

Dave,

So since it held it as a plain string, the normal bean name change
notification misses this. I wonder if there are other holes like this? I can
understand some cases where one line scripts are used as actions in Logix,
those would be strings and no way for code to know about them.

Thomas,

Have you tried to talk to the TD boards? I presume you have roster entries
from programming them? So do they respond? On the main page of the config
for each board is an option that sets if the board should respond to the
GPON. If those are set, you should see all of the sensors and turnouts after
the startup. Since it is a standalone LocoNet, you may need to manually
trigger that. It's been a long time and I don't recall the right trick right
now.

But if you can't talk to the boards with ops mode programming, that's a clue
they could be dead.

It's never too late to get it right. You need to start again. Don't use Paged Mode (despite bad such advice on some OEM data sheets). If your system supports it, use Direct Mode. The difference in speed is great. Two hours indicates you used Paged Mode.

?I am sure some CV¡¯s used by the locomotive were missed by ¡°LokSound Select¡± as the Atlas instructions that came with the locomotive suggested changing some CV¡¯s which I could not find using ¡°LokSound Select¡±.

There are at least three vastly different families of ESU decoder in recent OEM models; V4/Select, Essential Sound Unit and V5.

While some CVs are in common many hundreds are not.

You MUST use Read Type From Decoder to get it right. And don't use Paged Mode. Some systems will fail trying to read these decoders correctly in Paged Mode.

That is the intention of that tool. It only works with decoders implementing CV15,16 locking as per NMRA S9.2.2.

But since it was written, many decoder manufacturers have changed/differing parameters, including the range of valid lock keys (some accept 0-7, others 0-255), unlock keys (some use 0 as a universal "master unlock" key, others treat 0 as a valid "lock" key). Furthermore, some manufacturers use a bit in a third unrelated CV as a lock enable/disable.

The current situation is that we are aware of the limitations of the current JMRI multi-decoder support, but rewriting it to be manufacturer-specific is no easy task and has drifted to the back-burner due to other pressures.
