New and need help
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSeveral years ago I tried to use Decoder Pro and had a very hard time due to very little step by step instructions.? A few years ago I tried again with an updated version 2.8.? This time it was a little better because of a download user manual.? I just purchased a new set of engines for Christmas tree train, and couldn¡¯t get 2.8 to read the SoundTraxx decoder in a new Walthers Mainline F7 A-B. ??I figured they were new and Decoder Pro wasn¡¯t up to date.? I downloaded the new and improved for beginners and that ( pardon if I step on someone's toes)? a joke.? All I need is step by step instructions on how to read and change CV settings on the new engine.? Why isn¡¯t there written instructions, and if there are, Where can I find them?? ? Thank You for your time, in advance, Tom Van Horn? (70+) Digitrax ?and windows 7 user ? ? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat is quite correct. Avoid Read/Write All Sheets, there are known issues with possible command overlaps. Instead (as Tom has said) use?Read/Write Full Sheet on the CVs pane and use Read/Write Changes on Sheet and repeat until none remain to be done. Click on the Status heading in the CV list until it shows a small down arrow (sorts by by Status descending) and avoids scrolling though the list each time.? --? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMario, The second paragraph indicates JMRI is talking to your NCE Power Cab system. The first paragraph indicates without any doubt that (as Walt has explained) you have been bitten by the dreaded "Infernal" problem in Preferences->Defaults. Your programmers are set to "Infernal" instead of NCE. --? Dave in Australia The New England Convention 2018 On 15 Nov 2018, at 1:02 PM, mario.ariasy via Groups.Io <mario.ariasy@...> wrote:

Re: Operations - help on controlling car movement
Another very minor bug I've been experiencing:
When a caboose is assigned to a train, the car shows on the 'Cars' page with the load I have set - normally either 'E', or the custom load 'Crew'. However when the manifest is previewed or printed, the 'load' column is blank. David |

LastOperated and OperatingDuration Custom Attributes.
Greetings, I have noticed at the bottom of the Decoder Pro -> Roster -> Media tab sometimes there are two custom attributes, LastOperated and OperatingDuration that are displayed. I see the same in the xml files. I love this information. I can not find how to make it appear for all my locomotives. Some have it, some don't.? If I copy the tags into the XML files will JMRI update the information or is there something else I need to do to activate the updating of this information?? ? ? ? ?

Re: Web server update
Our club had a similar problem on two of the six tablets we use for glass panels about two or three months ago. Maybe this was concurrent with updating the JMRI version or maybe nobody noticed it earlier as those two panels each control remote portions of the eleven scale miles of dual track main line that have little switching activities. When we compared the version numbers for the Chrome app, those two tablets had much older versions than the tablets not showing any problems. Most of our tablets were donated by members who had moved on to more trendy gadgets, so we had some "version deficit" issues that should have been noticed earlier. Since we do not have access to the Internet at the club, it was necessary to bring them home, log onto our local WiFi router and request Google Play to do an update. Unfortunately that took most of a day, since a lot of stuff that I thought we had deleted got updated too. My fat finger skills with smartphones and tablets is mostly limited to phone calls and Engine Driver. Both tablets work as they had been and that problem is now behind us for the time being. Our only glass panel problem now is that we have to turn them off during Open House sessions, since stray fingers seem to invade us from time-to-time. This experience is anecdotal from what I can tell, but there may be some value in sharing it. Cliff in Baja SoCal |

Re: Web server update
Hi Bob,
The JMRI web server has two methods of showing panels, the "frame" server and the "panel" server. The panel server at /panel is the newer, more efficient method, as it draws the panel client-side and only sends state changes back and forth. Updates are immediate. This is highly recommended if it works for you. It requires WebSocket support on your devices. The frame server at /frame actually sends a "screen capture" of the panel image, and tries to process mouse clicks based on position. Updates and refreshes are subject to a timer. This also works with some JMRI windows in addition to panel windows. On old devices, there may be no WebSocket support (check?). If that is the case, you must change the Web Server Preferences to "Enable frames" and use the /frame server. That sounds like your situation. Regards, ? SteveT |

Web server update
I have been using the control panel editor panels for years now to display on tablets browsing my web server. I have not had an op session for a year but that changes tomorrow night. I was checking out the electronics and noticed the web pages on the tablets are not refreshing when signals and turnouts change.
It got me back to checking preferences and I see a 5 second refresh under frame server, but it is grayed out. What is the difference between frame server and web server in JMRI? Which should I be using to update my local panels? I was using the Android browser. Is another browser better? Bob Bucklew |

Lawrence, I dont know if this is specifically related to your problem or not, but I do know there are some issues with writing all sheets where things stack up and cause slow downs and/or lock ups.? Trouble programming a Tsunami 2
I was programming a TSU-1110 Steam-2 last night. I tried a "write all entries" as I have a custom profile set up. I received a large list error screen of Java issues. It actually required a complete reboot of the PC to get it to come back.
I narrowed the issue down to the T2 Function key reassignment tab by writing the tabs one at a time. If I did a "write full sheet" it would error out with "the programmer" is busy" message. I could get it to take the changes I made if I did the CV's one at a time with a "write changes on the sheet" for each line.? I have seen this on other T2 decoders also. This was the worst. I am using the latest version of JMRI on a Windows 10 Home PC. The system is Digitrax DCS-100 routed through a PR-3. Any ideas? Lawrence Eggering |

Cant read decoder
Hi to all.
Start again. My PC burned and I lost all my work. I had everything Ok. Bachmann, Kato, Athearn, BLI, even MTH DCS decoder and Engine Driver included. Now:
Windows 7 Ultimate
NCE Power Cab 1,65, USB port.
Decoder Pro 4.12 + Rb6a9bb1
Decoder Pro can not identify the decoder. I tried several different locomotives and I get the same result. "Found mfg 123 (Massoth Elektronic, GmbH) version 123; no such decoder defined.
Looking to know if there is communication between JMRI, USB and Power Cab, I got in the window "NCE: Show NCE Cab" two Cabs: USB and ProCab. In the ProCab line, I get the correct locomotive address, speed, etc.
No clue where is my problem. |

Re: Remote Panel Access
Micheal,
The web server has no restrictions on where a client is, so if the client can reach the network, it can see the panel pages. So to me, your question is a security one. How can I give a remote computer access to my railroad network? Do you have a dedicated computer on your railroad network your dispatcher could use? If so, I'd recommend you set up a remote control mechanism. I have had great results using Chrome Remote Desktop. I've also used VNC and other methods. --SteveT |

David, it does not appear that you used my image. My instructions assumed that you did. For example, my image does include setting up the samba shares.
Perhaps you can try my image on a new sd card. --SteveT |

Re: MRC Prodigy Advance 2
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýError code 306 is "Timeout talking to command station". That indicates that JMRI has sent a command but the command station has not replied after a considerable time. Under those circumstances it is slightly odd that you can use JMRI throttles. It would help greatly if you?go to the Help->System Console menu item as soon as you see a 306, click on "Copy to Clipboard" and paste into a post for us to see. We can read the log and save many emails, much time and maybe get a resolution in hours instead of days. Alternatively, go to the Help->Locations menu item, click on Open Log Files Location and upload the session.log file to a folder with your name that ?you create in the Files area of this list and in the Problems Being Worked On folder already there. --?
