Re: Saving Sensors by RailCom
There's a few assumptions made on your logic which may not be true? As the goal is to have as few detectors as possible, this implies no switch feedback. As such, if we have two trains sitting at a switch, then one crosses the switch into the next block, we have no clue which one it is. To make it worse, let's assume there's yet another switch and siding how do you setup Railcom and occupancy detection to figure it out? We're depending on order of operations to figure things out.? Take the same switches and trains as before. Drive the diverging route train, close switch, then thru train follows first. This may get reported as: switch closed, throat occupied (in reverse order of reality), pause, then both original tracks go unoccupied. I see this all the time, as things are finicky, and none of the equipment is specced to be "real time". On Fri, Aug 31, 2018, 00:17 halasz <halasz.gabor@...> wrote: Dave, |

Re: CMRI and JMRI
PJ,
Important issue, first time around, don't try loading the panel. You need to get the connection correct, then add the nodes. That means how many SMINI's, what node addresses, how many and which type of I/O cards if you have a USIC. That data sometimes gets lost during an update due to file format changes. Since you were coming from that far back 4.4, I suspect that's what happened. Once you get the nodes configured, and restarted, then try the panel load. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Peter, I just thought of another option for you to try. You said you deleted (laboriously) all of your existing JMRI files. Maybe or maybe not. You might use Windows Control Panel- Windows and Features-JMRI to fully delete the old version and then do a reinstall. I think this might be a way to fully eliminate old files.

I am trying to upgrade from 4.4. I downloaded 4.12. Had a problem. I then downloaded 4.6 and 4.8. Had the same problem. It seems they aren't recognizing the CMRI Sensors. An ERROR message comes up and says an ERROR loading? NAME ¡°CS50¡±? User Name: ¡°PS-15-2¡±. There are about 50 of these that is says it can¡¯t load. I checked the CMRI Nodes and connection. They are OK. I when to the web site it said to but it siad site not found. Now what do I do. Re: Newbie problems

Peter, being a newbie myself and just getting everything working with Decoder Pro, I am familiar with some of the problems.
In the Preferences window select Defaults:? The idea is to get all of the radio buttons selected on the (Top) row which is <your>Programmer. On my working setup I am able to get Throttles, Power Control and Service Programmer selected to the Programmer row but it may not be the same for your Lenz unit as my Sprog 3. The Ops Mode Programmer & Consists buttons remain in the internal row, The Command Station button is blank (no selections) on mine because I'm in program mode on the Sprog. The idea is to get as may buttons selected to your programmer row as possible. I had a lot of trouble using Com 5 on my Win 10 desktop. I had to delete the port entirely and when device manager then selected Com 7, DP startup problems went away. Don't do this unless all other options produce negative results- it is difficult to get a deleted port reinstalled. I don't know for sure but Win 10 may use the port for other options in the OS. You could try with any other devices you may be running internal or external like a disk drive or plug & play memory, etc. Take a look at System devices as well as Ports in Device Manager to see possible conflicts or duplications. In the Preferences window and the Connections tab be sure everything is selected per your Lenz documentation and the correct port is also selected. As far as DP not appearing after a restart, it'a possible that it is appearing as an icon on your task bar. I assume your task bar is visible. Sometimes you do have to restart manually but after my Com port problems, this went away. Good luck. I'm sure you'll get it. Lots of smart people on this forum. Bob |

Re: Progress to higher level
George, please excuse my rambling, but I am not sure if you are asking about automatic running of trains, or being able to control a train with the purpose of setting out and picking up cars.? The automatic running is significantly more advanced, but the manual control of a train using a computer to facilitate other tools (such as using a smart phone to control the locomotive and to throw turnouts, or even to have virtual signals on the computer/phone display) is much easier, though may not be trivial (but since I since you said you control turnouts, the hardest part is done).
Since I am not sure what you have done, I will suggest that you clarify your immediate goals.? By the way, many folks are connected to a computer (Mac, Window or Linux operating systems) to run DecoderPro for maintaining their roster (that may be how DecoderPro started). Many also run PanelPro and do that, as well as "Operations" (generating manifests and switchlists for crews to utilize on the layout). The "Operations" aspect is what some folks prefer, and many folks (even some without layouts) enjoy going to an "Operating Session" on someone else's layout, either as Engineer, Conductor, Station Operator, Dispatcher or kibitzer.? The layout does not even ned to be connected to the computer to work with Operations. Once the computer is connected, The *Pro programs (DecoderPro or PanelPro are different front-ends, but one program) also communicate with the command station for controlling other aspects (such as turnouts as you have, or Op Switches in accessories).? Oh my head hurts: there are too many options...so much to say, and most of it won't mean anything to most people... Everyone has something to offer you for advice, and we just need to know what you want to do.? If you want mode details about any aspect, someone will be happy to tell you, but I know I have too many things to say and it's not my forte to provide big picture overviews. Re: Decoder pro V4.13.2 Lok sound select direct.
Dave, Fine, Is it possible for you? or someone to populate the function labels the same way all the others populate the Function labels? Such as when I Identify a TSU, TSU2,TCS, Digitraxx, QSI or most any other decoder I read and have the function labels appear ? Matt seems to be using a standard format for the Full Throttle files for Functions and function labels. I know about the free form of the sound slots but there is a pattern to what Matt is doing. I move functions, function labels, sound slots whatever, whatever I need to do. As to Decoder Pro Reading the Function Pane, I understand. The REAL point in this is that I went to the LOk website, downloaded the appropriate sound file, read the data of the decoder all was correct, loaded the sound file and ended up with a non Full Throttle sound file. How does that happen. This is the second or third time this has happened and this is before evr swtichuing to Decoder pro. Rick.

Re: Progress to higher level
Hi George,
I think I am doing what you¡¯re talking about doing. I have no sensors on my layout, which is small, but I use Routes and Trains in JMRI to build my work orders. My layout is small but with delusions of grandeur. I model from central Illinois to the west coast. I have two mains, 1 yard, and several industrial sidings on a 3 x 6 foot layout. I drew my layout in PanelPro, and then replicated it several times (on the same panel) giving each new yard or siding a new name. I also put these names in Locations. Basically I mimicked the UP, BNSF, etc from Illinois to Portland and use replaceable magnetic signs for the yard and spurs. 3/4 of my system is ¡®virtual¡¯. When I build a Route I use the existing real UP or BNSF routes as inspiration. I can then do set outs and plan drop offs all along the way when I create a Train. I then use the Move function to move the train icon in the Panel to the next location and do set outs or pickups according to my Work order. Actually operating the trains, switches, and signals is completely manual. I have the laptop running JMRI next to the layout. Once you get used to it it works pretty well. You wouldn¡¯t have to go through all of this if you¡¯re layout is strictly physical, but putting it into PanelPro and using Move let¡¯s you keep track of where each train is, where it¡¯s going, and what it¡¯s supposed to do when it gets there. Getting them there is a manual operation. |
