Locked Re: Panel sensors not triggering Lroutes at startup

Finally found the problem, and with it, the solution. ?And, although I do not know what caused it in the first place, I have come up with a way to avoid it.

First, the problem and solution. ?As I was perusing the configuration file in a text editor looking for differences between the sensor/LRoute combinations that worked on startup and those that did not work, I noticed that the sensor name was different. ?On the ones that worked, the sensor name that I typed in prior to placing the sensor on the panel in PanelPro was appended to a leading "IS". ?For example, if I named the sensor "Test 1", PanelPro would add the IS making the name as used in Java "ISTEST 1" - note the addition of "IS" at the beginning and capitalization of the name I gave it. ?For the sensors that did not stay linked to their LRoutes, the name saved in the configuration file was just the name I gave it "Test 1". ?I don't know why they (the working and non working sensors) were saved in the config file differently. ?But the solution was to type in the correct name: ?"IS" + the name I assigned to the sensor, in all caps. ?I did that for all the non-working at startup sensors, and everything works great on startup.

I don't know why PanelPro does this. ?Type in any name, and the sensor shows up on the panel, in the sensor table, and in all the other tables as "IS" + name. ?But look in the configuration file and the name is minus the "IS". ?Also, and this is weird, if I type in "IS" + name to start with when placing the sensor on the panel, as in "ISTEST 1", "ISTEST 1" shows up everywhere, even the config file. ?One would think PanelPro would add another "IS" to the name I gave it, making it "ISISTEST 1". ?But it doesn't. So this is my workaround. ?So far I've been adding sensors using a beginning "IS" and all is well.

One cautionary note regarding editing the configuration file with a text editor: ?there are 2 kinds of quotes - generic quotes that can be opening or closing quotes (they are vertical and therefore interchangeable), and non-generic quotes wherein the opening quotes tilt the opposite way as the closing quotes. ?Java and JMRI only like the generic quotes. ?As I was editing the names in the config file, my text editor sometimes would change a generic opening quote to a non-generic opening quote, and if I didn't catch it and make it a generic variety, an error would occur when trying to open the panel.

Anyhow, thanks to all who responded and gave suggestions. ?I am creating and maintaining an initialization route to align all the sensors, turnouts and signals at startup, per several of the responders. ?Thanks again!

Locked Re: Why are the function fields blank in decoder pro?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

If you read the "Readme" pane in the roster entry, you will get more information.

There are many, many, many hundreds of LokSound Select and V4 projects and the Function names, Sound Slot names and defaults. We don't have the resources nor the flexibility in JMRI code to create and maintain that many sets of defaults and names.

If you know the ESU project name, you can download the ESU bulletin from the website to get names.

You'll need to Read Full Sheet on the CVs pane (more reliable than Read All Sheets) before making changes. This will take around 20 minutes on an NCE system. You'll need to sort by Status descending after reading and if there are any Red (Unknown) CVs, Read Changes on Sheet until they are all gone. You also need to turn off Caching and Verify after Write in Preferences->Roster->Programmer and update to the latest JMRI (currently V4.12).

You should have no problem changing Sound Volumes. If you are not sure which slot is which, use Program on Main on the Sound pane and experiment.

More help on the LokSound forum, where you will find an excellent unofficial LokProgrammer 4 manual by Phil Dunlop. The principles and Panes are similar to JMRI and it very well explains Function Mapping etc.

Gents,

Just download version 12 (after download java at another PC).
And now I've opened the help....
But I see it is not complete (downloaded) or configured.

Some tabs are empty (see attachment), some do only have a outline instead of the picture.

Locked DCC4PC on PRi

Been fighting an issue for some time . This works fine on my Win 10 computer.

Trying to learn using the RPi with JMRI and kept getting error messages when opening my panel filet. I can make the Blocks and sensors just fine and they will function correctly also can save is file without errors, but when restarting PanelPro again and loading my Panel file I get errors something about duplication's.

Finally did a side by side of the two computers using the same DCC++ and DCC4PC 16 Block Reader board.

Using JMRI 4.11.9 on both computers.

The Rpi shows the Reader interface just fine but will not display the Reader Boards.

Dennis in Tennessee

Also the window opens without a Title for the Reader Boards.

Why can I setup Blocks and sensors and work fine but not display the Reader Boards?

I don't see this in 4.12. I recommend you upgrade as version 4.6 is 2 years old.

It is never a good idea nor recommended to manually modify any JMRI generated files.

Locked Re: DecoderPro worked on NCE and then stopped working

Dave,

Thank you for your help.

1. I installed JMRI 4.12, successfully. (FYI, "JMRI..." and "20GB FireWire Disk" now again show up in the Finder window under Devices! Before, JMRI had not been showing up at all, and Firewire only sometimes.)

2. I doublechecked that nothing in Preference>Defaults was set to Internal. I turned off "When possible, confirm CV writes with a? read" in Preferences>Roster>Programmer

3. I noted that both LEDs on the USB Interface flashed intermittently. The layout side flashes several times for every time the USB LED flashes.

4. I attempted to change the sound levels in a loco. The DecoderPro window showed that it had changed to 0, but it did not affect the loco.

5. I asked it to Identify the loco. The message bar read "Read CV 29." I waited several minutes, and then got a message that was "stopping due to error; timeout talking to command station (306)"

6. Here are copies of the System Console and the NCE Command Monitor (with Raw Data and Time Stamps) from starting up to Error 306:

Locked WiThrottle fails to save preferences.

I am using JMRI 4.6-R81496dc on a Mac. PanelPro.

I open WiThrottle Preferences. Uncheck Box "F2 Always momentary"

Click on the SAVE icon.?

Quit

Restart JMRI, F2 Always momentary is back to being checked.

Obviously the change is not being saved. Can I edit a preferences file in Sublime Text? If yes, which one?

Interestingly if I open PanelPro, ?Uncheck "F2 Always momentary" in the preferences. then start the WiThrottle Server the F2 behaves like I want it to.?

I have several Minitrix engines with sound and Minitrix choose to use F2 for Sound On/Off so momentary doesn't work so well. Any Ideas would be much appreciated!

Ken,

? ? ?After loading new 4.12 I find that the load up time to be no different.? ?About 23 secs to the Logo screen.? Of course this all depends on CPU speed and what is going on in background.? Mine is 2.54ghz.? ?I always wait until the disc settles down after bootup before running JMRI.
? ? ?The first time running JMRI after boot up takes about 41 secs.? Guessing the Defender looking at files for the first time and the next time ignores JMRI allowing it to start up faster.

Locked Why are the function fields blank in decoder pro?

Hi I have 2 Athearn Genesis F3¡¯s (an AB set) with LokSound Select decoders. They are consisted as #26.

When I put the A unit on the NCE Program Track, Decoder Pro reads the decoder and I can change settings. ?However the tab for Functions is blank. ?I know the bell is on 1 and the mars light is on 6 but none show.

Also I cannot adjust individual sounds or volume (Prime mover, horn, bell). ?I can select the horn.

any ideas?

I have also had a problem trying to upgrade from 4.8 to 4.12. In my case I can get no further than the JMRI logo screen so have reverted to 4.8 but will now try again after reading the replies.

Thanks, ?

Dave

XG,

I should also had said that posting your file somewhere (like the Problems
being worked on) would help as we could test the file and see if we get
clues for you.

See the starting page.

Had to explore and understand this myself too, as the terms used are rather similar.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the speedy response and your assistance so far. ?I can well appreciate that the complexity of the dispatcher AutoTrains code means that fixes have to be carefully thought through so that nothing gets broken as a side effect of the fix.

Thanks and regards

Paul.
