Is the connection not happening, or does it show as connected and you can't control anything? The reason I ask is I had a problem where it would connect, but I couldn't control my locos. In the preferences section there is a tab for default. Under this tab you will see which system controls different parts of your system. My throttle control had been switched to internal instead of NCE.

I have been reading up on other interfaces and I am reasonable sure the problem is the interface. ?Thank you for your time. ?I ordered a DIGITRAX PC3 XTRA today. ?I think this will do what I want to do.

We assume you are using a windows system. Is that correct?

If windows open the JMRI program folder and run the install test. Let us know the results.

More info would help you . What is theinterface you are using, What is the MRC command station type, How do you have the connection preferences set up.

Got the roster problem solved but now can't connect. This is a
Windows 7 machine to a DCS100, via a LocoBuffer? Not sure what version
of LocoBuffer I have. It's just a PC board with a large serial?
connector to a USB connector* and separate power supply and a LocoNet
connector. Is this a LocoBuffer-II. Anyway it was working with the XP
computer but seems not to work with the Win7. At one point it seemed to
want a driver but not sure what I did to cause that message on screen.
The "splash"? screen says it's connected to com 4!

Rick, Can you confirm that you uninstalled Java and reinstalled it?
Can you determine if that was the last change before it started printing correctly?

Walt,Thank you for your help. I did try your suggestions and I continue to have problems.?
Which browser do you use when upgrading JMRI? I wonder if that makes a difference.
During the upgrade I receive the following error message:"Error opening file for writing.C:/program files (x86)\JMRI\LaunchJMRI.exeabort, retry or ignore"
If I chose ignore and click on the short cut I receive the following message:"Windows cannot access the file specified device, path on file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"
I have uninstalled JMRI several times and I still get the same messages.?There is probably one step I am missing.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks for your time.

On the bottom left of your desktop left click on the windows Icon. Scroll down the list of programs to JMRI, expand that and select "installtest" to run,

Tell us what then happens.

Locked ADMIN: How To Ask Your Question

======================
HOW to ask your question
======================

One of the most common questions about JMRI is "How do I get it to work?". This
isn't really a problem with JMRI itself in most cases, but there are HUGE
numbers of possible configurations for DCC systems, and Windows, Linux, and Mac
computers out there. Just asking "How do I get it to work" is NOT going to
get you any useful help.

When asking ANY question, you should utilize a meaningful subject line that indicates
the problem and include the following information in the body of the message:

+ If JMRI has started copy and paste the System Console into the body. (its under help on the start screen)
+ Has JMRI worked before on this computer?
+ Computer make and model
+ if you have just upgraded, from which version
+ Any other DCC devices in use
+ Specific details of your difficulty including error messages if any, or what you would
like to do with JMRI. Decoder Programming, Signals, Automation, etc.

Depending on the nature of the problem, you may need to supply even more
information, but this is the absolute required for anyone to give you
accurate answers.

Signing you post helps keep the group friendly and personable!

We assume you are using a windows system. Is that correct?

If windows open the JMRI program folder and run the install test. Let us know the results.

More info would help you . What is theinterface you are using, What is the MRC command station type, How do you have the connection preferences set up.

That information is also stored in a log file ( see below). So yes that was what I needed.

This is actually an improvement. This indicates your Mac is talking to your LIUSB, but it is sending back an error message ( one we should be able to recover from ).

This particular error message says the command station isn't giving the LIUSB a communication time slot. I am not sure why you are seeing this on startup.

Let me investigate and see what we can do to fix this.
I've been looking at this over the last couple of days, and the only way I have been able to replicate what you are seeing is by connecting a Roco Z21 command station to the LIUSB-Ethernet.

Connecting a version 3.6 LZV100 caused no issues.

Can you tell me a little more about your setup?
What command station are you using?
What software version is the command station?
What else is connected to the command station?
Have you tried your LIUSB-Ethernet with it being the only thing plugged into the command station?
What version of MacOS X do you have installed?

Thanks,
Paul

I have been a model railroader for about 8 years and finally learned about JMRI. ?I downloaded the program and finally hooked up the interface to my computer. ?After many attempts and help from other users of JMRI we are unable to figure out why it will not work. ?I have changed MRC DCC,s, computers, rolling stock and am out of ideas. ?The only thing that comes to mind now is that the interface may be faulty. ?Any thoughts in this matter will be gladly appreciated. ?Thanking you. now.

I followed the suggestion to add

-Djogamp.gluegen.UseTempJarCache=false

to the JMRI launchers to resolve the hang-at-start problem. See

This didn¡¯t work. The CI tests always had fatal audio failures.

There¡¯s no point in merging a change that breaks every build. I¡¯m closing that PR. If anybody has another suggestion for fixing the hang problem, that would be great.

Thanks Bob, figured it out. Everything seems to be correct now for DPs

Walt,

I was asked why we hooked up the 240 to the locobuffer. The primary answer was that we simply swapped out a single component. Secondary is that as you know Walt is that we have the Digitrax equipment in a box about 30' from the PCs.

Since we moved the 240 next to the PCs, our finding is that JMRI is working fine with the 240. So far we haven't found anything we can't do from JMRI with the 240. We also find things running much faster like our startup scripts. The downside with the 240 being outside the cabinet is that it doesn't get powered on and off with our switch by the entrance.

Our next big step will be to move the signals to its own loconet to get the traffic off of the network used by throttles.

The next flea market/open house is December 2nd. As before, a lot changes between each show. This time the north end of Duluth scenery will be finished. The remaining main line track will be glued down meaning that scenery work can start. The signaling system will be done from St Cloud to the North Star facility. We need Atlas to start producing the BLMA signals to complete the rest of the layout signals.

David, it looks like they intended the USB jack to be the connection to a computer See ." Integrated USB for Computer SupportI". I suspect that there are 3 loconets on it that are isolated from each other but send to info over the USB. Does JMRI know or even care which of the three tihngs are on? I don't know, but that would let it handle at lot more devices. I suspect you could have Quads with the same address on each but still control them separate. I do not see anything that explains that. in the documents. Kind of like having Loconet 1 and another loconet net (2).

Also there are three loconet jacks on the DCS240 is a very big difference, plus the USB jack

Hows things going at the club? When is the next open house/ flea market?

David: How are the lconets set up?
When trying the Locobuffer is it the only thing connected to the jack on the DSC240? Or is the Quad you are getting info from also on that chain?

David Do you get different information if the Locobuffer is plugged into a different jack on the DCS240? like rather than the A sting, plugged into the B or C net. Walt

Walt,

Maybe........kinda

The DCS200 has 2 loconet connections. When using JMRI with the PC in one and the other going out to the layout everything works. Seems like the 240 should work the same way.

The one big difference between the 2 is the built in PR3.

David: It locks to me like there are three loconet on the DCS240. See item 9.2 in

So if you are connected on just one from the Locobeffer it won't see the other two.

Bui if you are connected thru the USB it would seems that it would look at all of the Locobuffers.

That seems to match what you are seeing and it makes some sense to me.
