David, it looks like they intended the USB jack to be the connection to a computer See ." Integrated USB for Computer SupportI". I suspect that there are 3 loconets on it that are isolated from each other but send to info over the USB. Does JMRI know or even care which of the three tihngs are on? I don't know, but that would let it handle at lot more devices. I suspect you could have Quads with the same address on each but still control them separate. I do not see anything that explains that. in the documents. Kind of like having Loconet 1 and another loconet net (2).
Also there are three loconet jacks on the DCS240 is a very big difference, plus the USB jack
