I hate computers.
Definitely something haywire with my Windows 10.
I hardwired my laptop to the printer and everything worked as it should.
For some reason, only in that particular screen, it doesn't want to print in WiFi mode.?? Go figure.

Will just live with it I guess.
Thanks for the help.

Locked Re: New JMRI Version breaks my panels #4-18

Bob,

I have fixed all of the block warnings.

Block problems are generally caused by inconsistent block assignments. ?There are a couple of basic rules.
  • A block MUST be contiguous. ?For example, a-a-a-b-b-a-a-a is not valid. ?A track component with no block assignment will also break the contiguous rule.
  • Gaps between blocks break block continuity. ?Most of your turnouts do not have block assignments.
  • A good block design facilitates signaling.

Some Layout Editor comments.
  • A valid panel has no red, magenta, or yellow connection points. ?There should only be green connections, along with blue for the A connection for cross-overs and slips.
  • Use the Tools >> Check menu items to look for block issues. ?The should be no "Un-Connected Tracks" or "Non-Contiguous Blocks". ?"Un-Blocked Tracks" entries generally occur for secondary areas such as yards or branch lines.
  • Sometimes Non-Contiguous will occur for separate unblocked areas.

Changes.
  • Missing track segments were added to a couple of sub-panels to fix red/yellow connection points.
  • The anchor points at the end of lines on the sub-panels were changed to end bumpers. ?The was done using the "Change To" entry in the right click context menu ?for the anchor point.
  • The track segment block assignments where extended to include connected turnouts. ?Whether I used he left or right side was arbitrary. ?
  • CP Leech 330 cross-over was added to the main panel. ?Since that cross-over connects Block 915 and Block 916, it has to be on both the main and the CP Apollo sub-panel.

The updated panel has been uploaded to your folder.

Yes, that is correct.? The 23_2 version is the one where I needed to edit the XML file to change LS0 to LS930 because the new version of JMRI did not like the LS0 designation.? That is the latest version of my panel file.

Hi folks, I¡¯m new to DCC world and just got my share on two out of two non-working decoders. One being BLI P3, and while researching P3 issues I came across this thread on CV217.

?

Apparently, CV217 is not supposed to be documented, because it¡¯s a service CV. The below clarification came directly from BLI tech support, when they were troubleshooting my issue. I¡¯m just sharing and hope it can be of use for those working on BLI decoders.

?

BLI tech:

========

After setting CV217=196, it should either work or not work on the program track - but you could set it to lower or higher values to experiment (range of 0-255).

?

When we designed our latest decoder, we wanted to have a lot of capacitance to prevent pickup issues over frogs and such.

However, that design posed a problem with reading CV's sometimes and in some programming modes because when the energy was used to A) Charge the capacitors, and B) "chirp the motor" - the packet of data could not make it round trip back to the throttle.

Our engineer created CV217 to lessen the amount of power that was given to "chirp the motor" to overcome that obstacle. That's why it's not an NMRA standard - it's a BLI thing.

The higher you set CV217, the less power is given to the motor while programming.

Locked JMRI and DCC++: Exception with Simple Programmer in Ops Accessory Byte/Extended Byte mode #dccpp #4-18

I am running JMRI 4.18+R37ad3d0 with Java 11.0.6 in Ubuntu, and DCC++ Basestation. When using Simple Programmer in Ops Accessory Byte or Ops Accessory Extended Byte, I get the following error:

2020-02-09 22:56:29,637 ptionhandler.UncaughtExceptionHandler ERROR - Uncaught Exception caught by jmri.util.exceptionhandler.UncaughtExceptionHandler [AWT-EventQueue-0]
java.lang.NullPointerException

at jmri.jmrit.simpleprog.SimpleProgFrame.writePushed(SimpleProgFrame.java:223)
at jmri.jmrit.simpleprog.SimpleProgFrame$2.actionPerformed(SimpleProgFrame.java:66)
The DCC++ Traffic Monitor shows nothing. Alas I am not familiar with Java to identify what and where exactly communication between JMRI and DCC++ breaks.

Can it be the problem with DCC++ Basestation? As far as I understand, JMRI uses DCC++ command 'M' for Extended Accessory packets.

Phil,
I usually use the "preview before printing" to ensure that what I want to print looks correct.?? Sometimes I also find that what I thought might be one page is two.?? If so I can make changes to print what I want.

I have tried the "Print" without going through "properties", however the result is the same.?? Things just sit there and do nothing.
I even tried changing some colours in the Manifest.?? The colour changes showed in the preview with the same result.?? I did notice that the colours do not show the "preview" to print.? I guess it is using a different path.

I just don't know enough about computers to track this one.??? I have been able to print anything else in the program, except for the Manifest.

Maybe I'll just download the newer version and try it.
I assure the procedure would be to back up my "Operation" files then uninstall the old version before installing the new.

Gordon,

That's exactly how OperationsPro works, there's only a comment made for the operators, the helpers never move with the train, they only have to exist at the start of the helper location.? No need to build a route for your helpers to return, they never move in the database.

Dan

Locked Re: pickup and setout of locos in route #operationspro

Matt,
You could operate your helpers as a turn with their own route from where they pickup the train and drop it off. Your route would be from A with no SO's or PU's to B and B with no SO's or PU's to A.
I operate helper service off the grid...JMRI doesn't know they are there. I keep it simple.

Sorry to have to ask another newbie question, but you stated in your reply:

You can also iterate through the list of running automats, etc.
I can't see any method to achieve this on the page you referenced, nor can I find an example anywhere. Would you be so kind as to provide an example of how to iterate through the list of threads displayed in the thread monitor?

OK my way out and ¡°Canon Preview window¡± shows.?? The window shows the Manifest page.
Press ¡°Start Printing¡±????? Window disappears and nothing happens, computer just sits there with no error messages.
One other thought as I try to re-create the error: why do you click on the "preview before printing" in the Canon print window???

Does it print if you do not have that Canon option clicked??

I just checked with my Canon printer and it worked both ways, but I have had problems with my Canon apps in the past so that may be the flaw in the path.

Irvin,

When you print your manifest from the preview text editor, you are using the editor to print your manifest and not the program.? Your issue is related to JMRI trying to print your manifest.? I need you to check the system console for messages when printing from JMRI.? It may reveal why you can't print.? Also, if you deselect the option to use the text editor for previewing a manifest, does the preview provided by JMRI look ok?

Irvin, I tried to duplicate your problem but cannot.? I did not find that the option to use a text editor made any difference to printing.

I know that JMRI 4.14 is really not that old, but so many changes have been made is so many areas that printing could have been affected.? I am running 4.19.2 so I may not be able to reproduce the issue that you have.? I looked at the release notes for 4.16 and 4.18 but could not find any reference to a change that would affect printing.?

I don't know what collateral damage may occur (panels or scripts may be affected and are the biggest concern) from my next suggestion, so consider it carefully: upgrade to a newer production release (4.18 for example).? I know Dan (who works on the Operations stuff) has regularly updated the program, and modified how things work, to accomodate new options and requests (and to fix bugs!).?

It is still a possibility however that Windows is fooling us somehow.

Locked Re: Program stalls.

PJ,

Your friend could be facing a LocoNet "switch message storm" as described at .

It is most likely on LocoNet-based systems where signaling is via LocoNet. The problem can be exacerbated by having more than one JMRI computer on LocoNet if a certain work-around has not been applied.

The problem is most-easily diagnosed by having JMRI's LocoNet Monitor open during an operating session, with "timestamping" enabled. When the lock-up occurs, look at the LocoNet Monitor window and look for a "storm" of repeated switch messages, where each message gets a command station reply that rejects the switch message.

The web page describes the problem in detail and includes a wide variety of work-arounds.

Billybob
