Walthers provides absolutely nothing re 920-42107
Soundtraxx provides absolutely nothing re 920-42107? or the Walthers GP7.? There is no? CV listing sheet (unless YOU have one )

Without a CV listing from Soundtraxx, authors have stopped trying to fish out the details and just wait for Soundtraxx to provide them.

I would suggest you use the definition for the GP35? as it dates from 2018 as does the GP7 from what I discovered.?

The horn names will not match? until Soundtraxx provides the information.?

Locked Re: Vanishing Roster

Just to make sure I understand, you just have to restart DecoderPro and everything is recovered? You don¡¯t have to manually remake the roster index?

Do you use any images in your roster? If so, are they preserved or lost?

Could you try to recreate it after adding this line to your default.lcf file in the JMRI program directory:

log4j.category.jmri.jmrit.roster=DEBUG

(Make a copy of the file so you can put it back; this line is similar to ones at the bottom of the file, but note it doesn¡¯t start with a #) That puts a bunch of step-by-step debug info into the console which might help us see what¡¯s happening.

Thanks

What I have noticed is this might happen after adding a NEW Profile (sometimes done for testing) and the next Profile of mine I select may come up without the Roster Table.

I see this on Win10 and Windows XP. The XP Systems is currently on 4.19.3 Jenkins and exibits the symptom even after changing the User Files Location as a suggested made by some. Win10 system is running 4.18, same symptom.

I view the session and message logs and see nothing reported.

I view the User-Interface.xml and User-Interface.xml.2.bak and notice

User-Interface.xml shows this :

Dennis, I totally agree and understand the problem. I don¡¯t believe that it is a J Ops issue. On the 2 RRs that I work we are TT&TO, there is a timetable showing the priority trains, towns, sidings, and lengths. ?But that is not enuf. ?I also create a lineup which shows the extra trains and all that are planned for the session. One of our other guys creates a string chart showing what happens if all goes well.

A DS on a new pike running blind is not fun. I had a similar experience on a club RR and felt at sea. The host had built a marvelous CTC system using J, but unless the guest DS knew the trains and the territory, it was just clicking on signals.

Hosts should realize?that it isn¡¯t just the technology but the RR ecosystem that has to be understood to effectively dispatch.

Locked Re: Signal Head address using Team Digital Signal Head Drivers

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Clay,

I have the Team Digital detection boards and Team Digital Signal Head Drivers. ?I just looked at all my JMRI decoder pro decoder addresses. ?I gave all my Signal Head Drivers a unique address based on its location on the layout. ?Most all of my data architecture is based on the mile post appropriate for a turnout location and signal heads. ?Now because they are usually all at the same mile post location I added digits to make them unique. ?For example this is my set up for turnouts and signals for a crossover at mile post or control point 86. ?The NCE switchIt has the address of 86. ?Then the signals for that control point would start at 86.1 and 86.2 for programming purposes, I believe that they were programmed as 861 and 862. ?Actually a crossover will have 3 signal heads for each direction so eventually I had 861, 862, 863, 864, 871 and 872. ?
I had the addresses of 861 and 862 for the two signals on the mast for the westbound track leading to the crossover turnouts. ?The address of 863 was used for the westbound track that come to that crossover with no option of crossing over. ?The the address of 864 was used for the eastbound track facing the crossover with no option of crossing over. ?Then the 871 and 872 addresses were given to the two signal heads on the mast for the eastbound tracks coming to the crossover. ?Be sure to make yourself a spreadsheet of all the addresses and locations for future programming.

It has been a couple years since I did the programming on the Signal head decoders. ?My recollection is that you give the decoder the address to the signal head decoder of 861 and the address of the second signal head is automatically one digit higher (862)

There will be other things to learn such as being sure to choose the correct signal head description when adding them to your panel. ?I¡¯ll see if I can find that for a follow-up email.

Per the Team Digital manuals a turnout address is different from a signal address so it doesn't matter if you have a turnout number 1 and a signal 1. My question is if in the JMRI tables there is a turnout 1 and a signal 1, will it see them as two different things or as the same thing?

Locked Seeking decoder selection for new Walthers Proto GP7 with Tsunami

Apologies to those who have seen a similar post to the Soundtraxx group.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just received a new Walthers Proto New York Central GP7 Model 920-42107 and looking to bring this locomotive into my JMRI Decoder Pro roster.? The documentation in the box only refers to? "Tsunami Digital Sound by Soundtraxx" and the decoder paperwork is dated 2011 (although the Walthers paperwork for the locomotive is dated 2018).

In searching the message history of our group, messages from January 2019 hint that this locomotive may have a Soundtraxx TSU-WW56 REV A decoder.? I pulled the shell off of mine and all identifying marks are on the bottom of the decoder as it is installed. Buried and mostly unreadable, but I can see Soundtraxx and 2011 on the board.

All that said, since there isn't a Walthers OEM GP7 decoder in the DP Soundtraxx list (or a TSU-WW56), what is the recommended decoder selection for this locomotive in Decoder Pro?

Thank you in advance.

Marc,

Your "new install" locations list is the recommended, and default, file structure. ?DaveH is describing an alternate structure for people who want to share "user data" between multiple profiles.

Your user files location as ..\Marc\JMRI\ is an artifact from a long time ago, before profiles at 3.8.

For the majority of people, a single profile at the "settings:" location works fine, and it is the default for new installs/profiles.

"? User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\easy_DCC.jmri\? "

?" User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\ "

My example was not done via a "copy" in? Preferences >> Config Profiles. It was done in the "Set Active Profile" at start up using the? "New" to create a."Profile"

I do not understand your "majority of people" point.? The single profile created by default is " My_JMRI_Railroad " and is what the majority end up with.?
Here is what we get when NO JMRI user folder has been defined yet :

User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Roster Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Profile Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Settings Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\
Current Config file:C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\ProfileConfig.xml
Scripts Location: C:\Program Files\JMRI\jython\
Program Location: C:\Program Files\JMRI
Temp Files Location:C:\DOCUME~1\Marc\LOCALS~1\Temp\
Log Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\
? C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\messages.log
? C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\session.log

And, again,? the User Files Location is NOT as Dave Heap states it should be.?

I "expect" it to behave as the experts say is "Best ".

All this is to try and resolve a recurring " lost roster " condition at start up similar to what Mike has reported. This " lost roster " has been plaguing me thru many updates and on different computers and different operating systems..

I am running JMRI v4.18 on a Windows 7 computer connected to a Digitrax DB200 through a LocoBuffer-USB.? I'm not using masts (I've not quite figured those things out yet), and all signal heads are virtual.? I have?4 Panel Editor panels, and one Layout Editor panel.

When I drag and drop a signal head from the Item Pallet to the Panel Editor, I get a red "X" that shows up where the signal head should have been placed - basically the "no image for this signal head state" icon.? The layout XML file shows the following for this signal head:

<signalheadicon signalhead="SH_1A3.N" x="922" y="311" level="9" forcecontroloff="false" hidden="no" positionable="true" showtooltip="true" editable="true" clickmode="3" litmode="false" class="jmri.jmrit.display.configurexml.SignalHeadIconXml">
????? <tooltip>TEST SH_1A3.N</tooltip>
????? <icons />
????? <iconmaps family="RJE_SHicon_Searchlight" />
??? </signalheadicon>

The Panel Editor panel has working signal heads, and these can be?duplicated and moved, and these look just fine.? For the same signal head (duplicated), I see the following in the XML file:

??? <signalheadicon signalhead="SH_1A3.N" x="885" y="306" level="10" forcecontroloff="false" hidden="no" positionable="true" showtooltip="true" editable="true" clickmode="3" litmode="true" class="jmri.jmrit.display.configurexml.SignalHeadIconXml">
????? <tooltip>SH_1A3.N</tooltip>
????? <icons>
??????? <held url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchErrorFlash.gif" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </held>
??????? <dark url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchOff.png" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </dark>
??????? <red url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchRed.png" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </red>
??????? <yellow url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchYellow.png" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </yellow>
??????? <green url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchGreen.png" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </green>
??????? <flashred url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchRedFlash.gif" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </flashred>
??????? <flashyellow url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchYellowFlash.gif" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </flashyellow>
??????? <flashgreen url="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchGreenFlash.gif" degrees="0" scale="1.0">
????????? <rotation>0</rotation>
??????? </flashgreen>
????? </icons>
????? <iconmaps family="RJE_SHicon_Searchlight" />
??? </signalheadicon>

From what I can tell, the drag and drop from the Palette should be filling in the detailed info that follows <icons> but does not.

When I right click on the bad signal had icon (i.e. the "X") to Edit the signal head, I get a message that says "Family name "RJE_SHicon_Searchlight" is the name of a different icon set for SignalHeads in the Catalog.? Please change the name."? When I put in a new name, say "TEST", I get another pop-up that asks me to add the new icon set to the palette, which I answer "Yes" to.? Then I return to the "Item Panel - Palette",?"TEST" shows up as an icon set you can select, but no icon shows up that I can drag and drop.? When I try to change an existing working signal head to this new iton set, it will not do it ("Item Panel - Palette" just sits there and does nothing when you press "Update Panel").? If I go to a different Panel Editor Panel, then back to the first one I was working on, the new icon set is not there any more to select.

When I open the catalogTrees.XML file, I see:

<node nodeName="SignalHead">
???? <node nodeName="RJE_SHicon_Searchlight">
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateFlashingGreen" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchGreenFlash.gif" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateHeld" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchErrorFlash.gif" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateFlashingYellow" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchYellowFlash.gif" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateDark" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchOff.png" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateRed" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchRed.png" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateYellow" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchYellow.png" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateGreen" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchGreen.png" />
????????? <leaf name="SignalHeadStateFlashingRed" path="program:resources/icons/_RJE/Signals/SearchRedFlash.gif" />
??????? </node>

My Console Dump is pretty clean - see previous thread or I can resend it if helpful.? Let me know if any additional info would help.

Sorry for the long-winditude, but hopefully this better explains my difficulties.? I suspect it is something simple I have screwed up, but not quite sure what it might be.

Many thanks.

Rodney,
I want to make sure I understand what you want me to do. With CATS open, when I try and load a panel and it fails, you want to see what the system console says. Is that correct?
Thanks Clay

For the majority of people, a single profile at the "settings:" location works fine, and it is the default for new installs/profiles.
?
My "expectation "? is to see it behave as Dave Heap states it should and NOT create the " User Files Location" as?
"? User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\easy_DCC.jmri\? "

But as :
?" User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\ "

My example was not done via a "copy" in? Preferences >> Config Profiles. It was done in the "Set Active Profile" at start up using the? "New" to create a."Profile"

I do not understand your "majority of people" point.? The single profile created by default is " My_JMRI_Railroad " and is what the majority end up with.?
Here is what we get when NO JMRI user folder has been defined yet :

User Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Roster Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Profile Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\
Settings Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\
Current Config file:C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\ProfileConfig.xml
Scripts Location: C:\Program Files\JMRI\jython\
Program Location: C:\Program Files\JMRI
Temp Files Location:C:\DOCUME~1\Marc\LOCALS~1\Temp\
Log Files Location: C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\
? C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\messages.log
? C:\Documents and Settings\Marc\JMRI\log\session.log

And, again,? the User Files Location is NOT as Dave Heap states it should be.?

I "expect" it to behave as the experts say is "Best ".

All this is to try and resolve a recurring " lost roster " condition at start up similar to what Mike has reported. This " lost roster " has been plaguing me thru many updates and on different computers and different operating systems..

Locked Re: New JMRI Version breaks my panels #4-18

I loaded your xml file with the icons in the proper location. ?The only remaining errors are for "JMRI_Panels/Staging4.png" which I suspect is not an issue. ?There is also an empty SSL definition for "CP Harris Butler East Virtual".

I did NOT get any of the block "not compatible" warnings. ?I am using 4.18 for testing.

I reviewed your panels and it appears that none of the turnouts have been assigned blocks. ?There are also block assignments that are not contiguous. ?For example, Block 904 is assigned to track segments on either side of LT320, which does not have a block assignment.

Since you are using signal heads with SSL, you don't need ANY blocks. ?Blocks are required for signal masts and signal mast logic, block tracking, entry/exit dispatching, Dispatcher, and other forms of automation.

Hi Jerry,

I've just uploaded three images to a folder in the photo section.? Here's the link:

If that doesn't work the name of the folder is CTC Panel Images by Dennis Drury.? Hope this helps.

Clay,

Could you post a copy of the system console after loading the designer XML file in CATS?? From the main JMRI window, Help->System Console; focus (click) your mouse on the new window; (assuming a Windows system) Ctrl+A (or right click and Select All); Ctril+C (or right click and Copy); finally paste (Ctrl+V or right click and Paste) into an application like WordPad or an response to this forum.
