Re: Problem migrating Panelpro from Windows XP with MS100 to a laptop with PR3 connection
Thanks for the criticisms. I am no JMRI expert...
I set up a new connection. (Had to disable the previous connection, otherwise COM3 was "in use".).? Now all "Default" connections are Loconet and greyed out. How to run a script using the web server
Hello all:
Because of space constraints at the layout our club is building we decided to forgo control panels attached to the bench work and use android or iPad tablets.? Panels were built using PanelPro and they work...? Indeed, they work well.? Since we are in construction mode we have ran into the normal issues of getting things to work the way we want them to work. Think turnouts... There are maintenance scripts that would be useful in the debugging process. I could not find any functionality using a web server connection that would let me run a script.? I can see the turnout table.? The system name, the user name and the state were shown but I could not change the field by clicking on it. Huh...? But I know my layout panels work... Touch the turnout on the panel shown on the tablet and the switch moves.? Can I develop a panel that executes a jython script when an icon is pressed?? The idea being an individual can find a turnout on the layout and using a tablet web servered back to the computer running JMRI,.. display the maintenance panel and run the appropriate diagnostics.? Am I on the right track? Dan Kubarych ARHS |

Odd Loconet turnout behavior
All: For some odd reason, the turnout will not move when clicked on the layout panel screen but will move when clicked on the turnout tab. Feedback indicates correct position on the turnout tab but does not show up on the layout panel, even when clicked on the turnout table.?

Paul,
That is one reason I am confused. I only have rfid readers, no transponding anywhere. The ttansponding files have been created by 4.16. Allen? |

Re: Decoder Pro and Indexed CVs

It shouldn't have to read every indexed CV twice (although it does write the index CVs before reading or writing the underlying CV (the part in the range 257-512 for NMRA-compliant indexing as in SoundTraxx and ESU). It shouldn't fail for all indexed CVs either. That indicates a configuration or other loco-based issue (e.g. Keep Alive still connected - that's likely to cause problems). There are a couple of settings in Preferences->Roster->Programmer that can affect some systems. Try turning off Confirm Writes by Read Back. ??And then I checked the CV list and noticed quite a few blanks. ?I can go to Sountraxx's manuals and carry on from there. ?But, I noticed the phenomenon, when doing the initial read. See below for the correct procedure applicable to most decoders (not just ESU). Please update to JMRI V4.17.4 or later. V4.16 is known to have significant issues in some areas. Reading all CVs Reading the full decoder is essential, particularly with ESU decoders where there are no "standard defaults". Each sound project has its own "factory defaults". All ESU sound decoders are manufactured effectively blank. When a Sound project is loaded to the decoder (using LokProgrammer software) part of the procedure is to write a new set of "factory defaults". Because of a known (but as yet unresolved) race condition with certain decoder settings variables in JMRI code: 1) Use "Read Full Sheet" on the CVs pane instead of "Read All Sheets". It is less likely to cause errors when reading a decoder with lots of CVs. Once finished, some may be missed (displayed in red). Use "Read Changes on Sheet" as many times as needed until no red items remain. (Hint: Click on the Status column in the CVs pane until you see a down arrow. All the Red items will then be at the top.) 2) After you make changes on a programming sheet, don't use Write/Read changes on that programming sheet. Instead, switch to the CVs pane and use Write/Read changes on (the CVs) sheet. The result is the same but it will never trigger the race condition. You may also see a number of messages in the JMRI System Log like this: "ERROR - Variable=xxxxxx; Busy goes false with state IDLE" Ignore these as they don't indicate a real error, we'll fix the problem in a later JMRI release. Some information about C/I tracks:
Look at the part about needing a different train to service a car that has been placed on a C/I track. Dan |

When you look at the build report for the train you believe should move the cars from the interchange/classification track, what does the build report say those cars?

Storage track.
#operationspro
My layout does not have a staging track in the traditional sense. All cars come on and off the layout via a car float that acts like a active fiddle yard. I have set up the barge as a Interchange/ classification track. Then have a train ¡°five finger shuffle¡± take the cars from the Barge track to one of three other I/C tracks labeled Drawer 1, 2 and 3. I also have one spur that is where al my custom loads either originate or end their journey. I took all the foreign road cars and put the ¡°return when empty to (their drawer #)¡° this seemed to work fine cars with loads would go to the spur and then their drawer. But no car has ever left. Even my home road cars with custom loads go to the spur and then go to a random drawer and that¡¯s where they die. I have tried to manually put destinations on to the cars. But they never leave the interchange/classification track. Do you have any suggestions on how to make this work or a better way of cycling unneeded cars off the layout?

Re: Car Weights
#operationspro
I'm not sure if you're confusing car capacity for car total gross weight.? Your chart shows the lowest capacity for a boxcar at 80 tons, most at 100 tons.? You need to add the car's empty weight to the car's capacity to get maximum gross weight, (which isn't quite true, but close enough, you should use load limit).? Anyway, I don't see the value of "accurate" load weights for model cars, as long as the gross weight provided by the program is reasonable, the train manifest will look plausible.

Re: Car Weights

Thanks again Dan.? it appears that many of our cars do not have as much capacity as more recent cars. We'll have to override the default for all of these.
Thanks, Larry |

Re: Car Weights
#operationspro
The program should correctly calculate the NMRA recommended weight for the? car based on length and scale. You can override the maximum "Tonnage" weight to anything you wish, it is only an estimate by the program.? BTW 60 tons total gross weight seems to be on the low side for a 50' car.? Modern 50' cars are in the 100 - 140 ton range for gross weight.

Re: Problem migrating Panelpro from Windows XP with MS100 to a laptop with PR3 connection
John,

(e) When I open my panel, I get an error that the COM3 port is in use -- but that is the port it should be!There is where you should have stopped and got advice. The rest was largely wasting your time as you had an overriding problem. Dave in Australia (f) I have copied all the files from the User Files Location on the XP. Re: Problem migrating Panelpro from Windows XP with MS100 to a laptop with PR3 connection
John,
The log you provided is NOT actually connecting to a LocoNet connection. If it was, you would see specific information about serial connection settings in the log file. But they are not present, so the connection is NOT configured to communicate with a PR3! You will need to "fix" that first and foremost. I agree with the idea that you need to create a new "configuration" for the LocoBuffer-USB. See Dave Sand's e-mail for his suggestions on how to go about that. Be aware that Windows can be VERY unpredictable with respect to COM port assignments with some types of USB devices. You _cannot assume_ that any certain COM port number will be assigned to a given device. It is often necessary for Windows users to use the "Device Manager" feature to find out exactly which COM port was assigned to the device. Failure to configure JMRI to use the "correct" COM port number will result in a non-functional JMRI configuration. (Be aware that the JMRI 4.16 "production release" contains a bug which prevents proper configuration of some serial and USB connections, including LocoBuffer-USB connections. JMRI test release 4.17.4 is the current test release - it does not have that bug.) Regards, Billybob |
