Locked JMRI ops - Car types set to UK default and cannot change

Hello all ,

hopefully someone can guide me with this.

I'm trying to set up JMRI Ops for my layout.

The car types are set to UK as the default type , and I cant seem to change them to US, I've used the JMRI wiki , but the stages shown in the instructions don't appear on my version of JMRI.

Can anyone provide an idiot's guide on how to do this?

Thanks in advance

Rich

Locked Re: Chromebook w/LXDE Can't Access Serial Ports

Thank you for the help. Perhaps that could be added to the Linux FAQ?

Anyway, when I tried the first command I noticed two lines coming and going, one called "serial" and the other ttyUSB0, so I tried the command with 'serial" instead of "dialout." That worked, so now I can access my layout with the Chromebook. WiThrottle doesn't seem to work very well, though, perhaps because the wireless is upstairs and the layout is in the basement? That would seem to be a topic for another post...

Dave,

That did the trick even though I did not change anything! I went into preferences, saw that everything was selected for NCE. I clicked X to close the window and another popped up stating there are unsaved changes, do you wish to save. I clicked save which prompted me to restart Decoderpro. Once restarted, service mode and operations mode is now green. I now can read a decoder!
Thank you again for your help.

Best regards,

Stephen

Hello,

A new att.net is here!

By now we hope you?ve taken a look at the new att.net and encourage you to provide feedback on the enhanced features we?ve added.

We?d like to remind you that after June 28, 2017 you will no longer be able to access most Yahoo sites and apps with your AT&T login. However, we?ll maintain your access to Flickr, Tumblr, Fantasy Sports, Yahoo Groups and My Yahoo for a few more months. There will be no changes with your AT&T Mail account.

We recommend you move your Yahoo accounts to a new Yahoo ID to maintain access to your data in the future. We?ve outlined the easy-to-follow steps on our AT&T Support Page.

Thanks for choosing us,

AT&T.

Locked Re: layout editor assign turnout name

I just tested this and everything worked as expected. Futzing around a little bit I was able to get it to behave similar to the manor you describe by trying to assign a turnout that had already been assigned as a secondary turnout for a different layout turnout. Note that when I'm unable to close the turnout editor there is a stack trace in the session.log file. If you can, find that file and send it to me (<geowar1 @ mac dot com>) I can have another look see.

Locked Re: Chromebook w/LXDE Can't Access Serial Ports

Here it is again:

Open a Terminal window and put in this command EXACTLY (except for the double quotes):
"while : ;do clear;ls -lt /dev|head;i=$((i+1));echo $i;sleep 1;done"
Press ENTER and watch the screen as you slowly plug/unplug the USB device, watching what device appears/disappears and record the name. If nothing appears/disappears your device is not loading a driver.

You will also need to enter the following command EXACTLY (except for the double quotes):
"sudo adduser ${USER} dialout"
(This assumes "dialout" is the group shown beside your device in the list above.)

Do not:
* Try to bypass group membership by running as root. That will create further problems.
* Try to change permissions of the serial port you see. They will be lost every time you plug/unplug/logout/reboot.

Then logout and back in again so the group membership takes effect.

Then go to JMRI Preferences->Connections and the device name you saw earlier should be in the dropdown list once you select a serial connection.

In your case set up connection as NCE Power Pro Serial as per:
<>

If you are still having problems, you need to check the /var/lock directory and remove any stale lock files for the device. This can particularly be a problem if you have ever run JMRI as root.

Locked Re: AT&T users loosing access

My understanding of this whole ATT/Yahoo/etc. divorce is that the login
method is changing. At one time, you could use those other login names and
the Yahoo Groups would take that email id and password, pass it along to the
right party, get a validation token, and then let you log in. So you didn't
need a different id and password. But with the changes, that method is being
discontinued. It will mean that Groups needs some id and password that
Groups knows as valid to let you into the website. Now you can still use the
normal email, and that isn't being affected. But to get to the group files
and stuff, then you need make sure the Group's membership system knows you
by some other id in addition to the email addresses you use.

As a moderator on some of the groups, the moderator group has been hashing
this for quite a while. It looks messy to say the least.

Tony,

Your AT&T email account is not affected in any way by this change.

What is changing is that it will no longer be possible to logon to "tumblr.com" with an email address using one of the listed domains.

Since Tumblr is part of Yahoo, my guess is that eventually this will affect other Yahoo features, including Groups. I have not found any other information for Yahoo/AT&T, only the Tumblr notice.

If this does include Groups, then you will need to get a Yahoo email address to access Groups.

I expect that there will be other interruptions as the Yahoo/AOL/Verizon integration continues.
