If you have the latest Soundtraxx Tsunami 2 you do NOT need the PTB 100. Easydcc has NO problems programming the higher numbers.

My system uses the 1998 Command Station with the V629 firmware.

To program the old Tsunami you can use the PTB 100 but the PowerPax unit works better with the older Command Station.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about jmrix stuff and don¡¯t have CMRI so I am using bluetooth as a stand-in.

I am able to get the baud rate in the startup messages to match the baud rate in the profile.xml file. Since I have no way to actually test anything, I cannot verify my fix but it makes sense to me. It might not even be a valid fix but should provide a clue to someone knowledgeable in this area.

Gerry,

If it really is a LocoBuffer-II (9 pin serial) and came packaged from us (RR-CirKits) with a transparent blue USB to Serial adapter, then you need the drivers found at not the original drivers that came with the unit. They were for older machines. The above drivers will show up as a serial adapter in the Device Manager, not as a LocoBuffer-II.

Also be sure to chose LocoBuffer-II in the JMRI selections, NOT LocoBuffer-USB.

Several months ago, JMRI, LocoBuffer II-USB and my Digitrax Command Stations were working just fine to program locos.? The only thing that I know changed was that the computer got a Windows update or two.

The setup:? I have both a Digitrax DCS100 and DB 150.? The 100 runs the layout; the 150 is used solely for loco programming.? I have a stand-alone track here on my desk for programming and never program on the layout.? I'm running JMRI 4.14 on Win 10, Java version 1.8.0_221 on each of two computers (desktop and laptop).? I have a LocoBufferII-USB that's been plugged into the same USB port constantly so I can run JMRI Ops without having to stop and plug it in.

The problem: whenever I try to send a proramming sheet to the loco -- either in "on the main" or "programming track" I'm getting a "Timeout talking to command station (306)" error.? Whenever I try to open a JMRI throttle, I get a "Failed to get response from command station" error.

What I've tried:
- Uninstalled previous version of JMRI, downloaded 4.14, installed it
- Uninstalled Java, downloaded new one, reinstalled it.
- Uninstalled LocoBuffer via Device Manager, downloaded drivers from RRCir-Kits, and reinstalled it.
- When I "Monitor LocoNet," I get no LocoNet traffic on the screen when I'm on my desktop computer even though the screens say I'm connected to COM 3, and the connection message at the bottom of the programming screens is green and says I'm connected.? HOWEVER I do get LocoNet traffic on the screen when I'm on the laptop on COM 4.? That, too, says I'm successfully connected.
- I've tried programming the loco from each of the computers and still get the "Timeout" error.
- I've tried programming the loco with each of the command stations and still get the "Timeout" error
- I've tried programming a different loco (one that I'd successfully used this same setup to program before) and still get the "Timeout" error.
- I've tried 4 different cords that link the LocoBuffer to the command station and get the "Timeout" error with all of them (I know at least one of them works because I robbed it from my layout for this test, and it's a "reversing" cord).
- I'm able to program the loco manually successfully using my DT400, and am able to read back CVs on the DT400 when using the DCS100

To me, it almost sounds like the LocoBuffer or both of the command stations went bad, but you folks know a TON more than I do, so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.? Thanks.

Hi Carl,
Renaming the folders as you describe should work fine, although I find it much easier to rename the old folder first, so the extract can simply use the "JMRI" name, as it was saved in the .tgz file.
Unless your "faceless with autostart" setuip involved changes inside the JMRI folder, everything should work the same.

Locked Re: "Timeout talking to command station" and "Failed to get response from Command Station"

If you had it working before, then something has changed. You should look for what changed.

If this were a new install, you should configure it as a LocoBuffer-II to JMRI. The LocoBuffer-II works at lower speeds, which must be configured so that JMRI and the hardware switches agree. The LocoBuffer-USB works differently in this respect.

From what I read, you are sharing the Locobuffer-USB between the two computers and it has faillled.
Not "sharing" per se, but going between two computers, one at a time to make sure one of the computers isn't the culprit.

I did what you said:

If the window has 8 blank boxes, the Locobuffer-USB is not receiving power from the LOCONET side (Command Station Loconet connection). Make sure the Command Station is powered up. If CS is powered , replace Loconet cable.
The green "power" light on the LocoBuffer comes on when I plug the cable into the Command Station.. In addition I'm using an external wall wart to power the LocoBuffer. (This is a LocoBuffer II with a serial-to-usb cable; RRCir-Kits shipped it with the "LocoBuffer-USB driver disk" so I'm assuming it's considered a LocoBuffer USB). Still, I get 8 blank boxes. I've tried 5 different LocoNet cables, all with the same result. And as before, tried all of this on two different computers.

Is it possible that both Command Stations are somehow faulty?

Or should I just pop for a brand new LocoBuffer USB?

Hello,

I have a Piko 56403 decoder connected to my Piko model and constantly getting a 308 error (No acknowledge from locomotive) when attempting to program and/or run the loco.

I'm using an arduino UNO loaded with DCC++ and an arduino motor shield.? The Vin on the motor shield has been cut so that I can power the tracks with a 15V power supply using the method stated in the DCC ++ help guide and the relevant youtube videos.? The LED's on the motor shield respond in the manner described in the DCC++ help guide - although I feel they could be brighter and I get just over 1V across the terminals when JMRI is powered on.

All software has been downloaded within the past 2-weeks, and as far as I can see are all at latest versions.

The Piko 56403 decoder is not available in the JMRI selection list, however the 56400 and 56401 are.? The Piko website states the the 56403 replaced the 56401 recently and I tried that just in case - also to no avail.

Unfortunately I do not have another decoder or motor shield to try and thus am not sure what I might have done wrong - I've disconnected cables and decoder, watched the videos and reread the help guides a number of times and end in the same position.

Does anyone have any tips and advice on how to proceed?

T.I.A.
