Re: No 2 or uhf
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýUnusual. VHF and UFH use separate PA transistors. Check to see what the current draw on those bands is and if you see a large SWR. There might be a problem between the transistors and the antenna connector. ? Thank You ? Paul W. Re: Ham radio Deluxe
Go in to windows device manager, and see com port settings? On Tue, 21 May 2024, 13:26 David Browne, <davidbrowne76@...> wrote:

Re: Ham radio Deluxe
Good in to windows device manager and plug in the cable and see what com port it is using for the port, And see that there is not a yellow marker for this com port, if there is , you need a driver for the cable not the radio, Once you know the port you can then setup HRD, Good luck? Re: Ham radio Deluxe
I use HRD and RTS 7000 control software often.
The RTS USB to CIV interface is easy and works well. USB ops in Windows can be problematic, make sure to disable power saving for all USB devices in Windows Power Management. The RTS control software works well for memory management in the IC-7000. good luck KM4RL Bob |
Ham radio Deluxe
Hello group. A drunk drove into my house and caused a bunch of structural damage, so we had to find a place to stay while the place is being repaired. I got my IC-7000 new right after they came out and had only used it mobile. Not wanting to take my large base station rigs for the temporary set up, I decided to take the IC-7000 with. I am having trouble getting the HRD software to find the radio. I programmed the radio with RT Systems software and that went fine, but connecting to HRD is another story. I have got HRD to work with many radios over the years in the shack but had not tried to connect and used the 7000 for this purpose before. So I wondered if I need a driver? I looked on Icom USA and find nothing. I tried to download a different driver on the Icom site, but was unable to download anything. I am stumped. I am not even sure what I should be asking. Thanks everyone and good DX.

Re: IC-7000 for Go-Box?
I absolutely LOVE my IC-7000 - it, along with my AH-4 tuner have served me well for over 12 years and are going strong.
That said, it is both power hungry AND power sensitive. It draws a lot of current, and does not like low input voltage. That said, as long as you have a plan to take that into account, you are good to go. For backpacking (for example), it would not be my choice though as I would be "iffy" on the power.? In my case, as I personally consider my "go box" to mean my truck, where I have THREE power options available to me: 1) If AC power is available (which it often is via line AC, generator etc), I can plug the radio into my power supply off an extension cord etc.? i.e. campground power etc. 2) I can run off my truck engine battery (which for HF I really only do VERY VERY rarely due to antenna size and just for safe driving) while the engine is running and I am most likely using? 2m/70cm anyways, though I can use my HF whip antenna (thanks to AH-4, I can tune pretty well anything!). 3) While I always have 1 or 2, my most commonly used power source is my standalone 100Ah (go big or go home) LiFePo4 battery.? It maintains high enough voltage for the IC-7000 for many hours of operation even at full power (and it also serves duty in other areas of my home too, not just for my radio), can be recharged easily enough with solar etc.? It only weighs 22 pounds so as long as you are in or around your vehicle anyways, the size/weight can be irrelevant. I have a common Anderson powerpole connector setup for all three options so I can plug or swap power sources easily.? My primary setup for HF is a 30' fiberglass pole in my truck bed (with various antenna setup options) when remote (NVIS or DX).? With some extension cables, I can easily setup the entire setup outside (but near) the truck within about 50'. Grant? VA6GT ? |
Re: CAT Control
Edward: you need a USB to CIV adapter. Mine is no longer?available, but it looks like the following is an example of whatt?should?work? ICOM makes a CIV to RS-232 adapter, but it is a bit expensive and kludgy. Re: CAT Control
You need a USB to serial cable for CAT control to access the C-IV Icom control of the radio.
You can buy one made for it on Amazon or buy a cheap Beofeng (sp?) programming unit and cut the twin connector off and just tie the RX and TX signal wires to the tip of a 3.5 mm plug. You will have to set the COM port in the radio to match the same baud rate etc that you have selected in the radio. For the audio you can go from a simple set of 3.5 mm plugs from the headphones and mike in and out from the PC to a signal link or equivalent. In that case you would work the PTT from the vox setting on the radio. The signalink USB handles the same thing from a VOX circuit built within it's circuitry. You can spend a lot or a little depending on how much you are comfortable with. The CAT and the "Digital" signals are two different things and take two different approaches. |
