Re: How and where do i check the filters

Andrew,? Are you able to correctly adjust all of the Drive/Final Idling Currents?? For adjusting TX power output, using the correct mic audio level and frequency as specified in procedure is important.? What are you using to measure the idle currents?? What are the actual measured currents in the 4-4 Transmitter Adjustments, steps 2-7?

Are you able to verify the TX voltages by stage as given in :??/g/ic7000/files/7K%20TX%20RF%20Levels%203.pdf? ?? Make sure your radio settings match those in the first paragraphs.? It is important to have a ground spring clip on the probe's ground barrel (instead of a normal ground wire clip) to eliminate noise coupling and get accurate readings.

Since all bands appear to have a problem, it is unlikely to be a problem with high or low pass filters or their switching diodes & relays.? But you can verify them by seeing that the input signal level is okay per the above document, then checking the signal level on the output of the filter.? The switching diodes and their control voltages are more likely to be a problem than the actual filter circuit.

Re: How and where do i check the filters

yes all voltage supplies where checked

Re: How and where do i check the filters

Hi, did you test the transistors
Or did you just change them hopping that this would?work?, did you test for voltage supply on the transistors,
Dave

Re: Preparing to somewhat dissamble IC7000 control head

The second new 7000 I bought started to have screen problems.? It would show static but never cut off.? I send it back under warranty to Icom twice but it never misbehaved while there.? I got it back and it started it again after a day or so.? I called Icom and spoke to Dan, the repair supervisor, and asked him to send me a complete set of ribbon cables.? One of the 2 cables that plugged into the front of the PA board was the culprit.? One of the foils had de-laminated and pealed back when it was assembled.? 14 years later and it still works.
You might be able to reach in and push it on the stiffeners to see if there is a problem with a cable.? Normally, you have to de-solder the coax connectors and the finals to remove the PA board to get to either of those.? I made a thin pair of tweezers with rubber grippers to prevent damage.? There can't be much more than a 3mm gap for them so it will be tight to do what I did.? There are other cables that can cause this but these two are the most difficult.
Good luck,
Robert

Re: Compatible Tuner with IC 7000

i DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE ic-7000 is compatible with the ATAS (Yaesu). The Yaesu radios have a DC output voltage that changes level to drive up and down or stop. The SWR meter and control circuit in the Yaesu controls the ATAS antenna and just having an SWR meter will not work for you.
One of the other screwdriver antennas could be used with either and UP/ DOWN switch or one of the screwdriver control boxes.
Most of the screwdriver antennas can be tuned for maximum noise on the receiver and be very close to the final SWR. A little fiddling will put you right on the money.
Best wishes with your radio

?? What a group and lots of great info.
? I think I have come up with a solution of either a tuner such as an Icom Ah series at the base of the antenna, or I might try the ATAS and since all I am missing is the SWR meter I may put one inline and mount it on top of the rig. This way I can tune for lowest SWR with the feature built into the radio. Since I am using the 7000 for repeater work I have room for the meter on top and I will report back on how this whole arrangement works.
?? I am attaching a photo of the first mount, it has since been modified of course lol but I also modified the shift lever for more clearance and brought the radio even closer.
? The MFJ control box is now mounted below the 7000 within easy reach and all I need is a small bracket to mount the meter and I will take a photo when thats done and hopefully get on the air soon.
?? My old setup on another truck was a 10 foot screwdriver type antenna with a serious mount that had a drive motor and coil assembly that was just great but heavy.? I made worldwide contacts with that setup and there is a photo on my QRZ page.
?? I'm trying to make things simpler and take advantage of the quick removability and re install of the ATAS.
??? Thanks again to everyone and I will post photos of the finished mess!

I have been told that the MFJ controller for the ATAS needs a modification to be compatible with the 7000, and once done it does not show the SWR meter during tuning.

Re: Loosing First LO when Changing Frequency

I think I have resolved the issue.? I noticed there was oscillation on the 3.3v line on the DDS.? I added a 10uf electrolytic cap to the 3R3V pad above DDS R9 and ground to stabilize the voltage.? That seems to have done the trick.? I'm able to spin the dial with no issues.? I should probably replace the MAIN C1802 cap next but I can't find an identical part.

Re: Compatible Tuner with IC 7000

I've been using the LDG AT-7000 with my IC-7000 for about 10 years. The antenna is a Comet UHV6 HF with loading coils for 40, 20 15 and 10. I bought a cup holder mound for the control head unit and a Heil one-ear headset. The radio and tuner are mounted under the passenger seat of my VW Passat. When I navigate away from the resonant freq of the antenna, I simply press "TUNE".??

I have the AT200Pro with the interface cable. Can't get it easier with my mono-band whips I use

Re: Compatible Tuner with IC 7000

10 years my mobile set-up? has been an IC7000 remote in the trunk under the floor in the tire well. I use a AH4.. output of the AH4- is 8 inches of RG8 minus shielding to the base of a 3/8"-24 CB stud antenna mount. coming out below the bumper on a 1.5x 3/8 steel bar. painted to match the car.(white)...

At first I tried a crappy MFJ 40M hamstick.?? the loading coil is on the lower 4 feet of the antenna..maybe top of loading coil 5 feet off the ground.? Results were dismal....

Then I impulse bought a Hustler 1 piece mast and a 40M resonator... With that on the same antenna mount the 40M loading coil was now just over 6 feet in the air.. No trouble working VK's at 3 in the morning driving Wichita to Kansas city on the Kansas turnpike.. on 40M. with a 3way with Long island ham running a KW.. .

I use the 40 meter resonator on 80-40 and I use a 20 meter resonator on 20-17-15-10-6...I put 20M resonator on daytime, and it even does a good job on 40M..
The 40M resonator is good for top end 75Meter state wide nets...

I have a HI-Q antenna... only screwdriver type antenna I'd recommend. only it looks ugly on my car, great on my truck...

Regarding tuning the antenna-- hit the tune button.. and watch the graph display of SWR.. i can get 20KCs of bandwidth (under 1.5) on 80 with the 40M resonator.. about 80kcs on 40 and above 40 all is good.. tune once per band..

I always get good reports.. If I can hear it I can work it... Great for those 3 day trips Wichita to Boston..or Wichita to Orlando. or Wichita to Grand Canyon.?

Happy New Year...

Larry W8LM..

I have used an AH-4 tuner and it works very well, although I did not use mine mobile. I had bad luck with an MFJ auto tuner (forgot the model) but it would not allow the fan in the IC-7000 to run except when the radio reached an overheat condition. I ended up having to replace the finals.

I am also using an IC-7000 in my car together with an LDG AT-100 pro antenna tuner for HF bands. The tuner does quite a good job tuning my mono band MFJ whips.

Re: Compatible Tuner with IC 7000

The AH4 with a 102 ¡° whip will work great. Be sure to double insulate the feed wire from the tuner to the whip. I used heavy gas line hose from an auto parts store.? Here is a safety tip for mobile use¡if you remote the head. I made a two conductor cable that plugged into the head unit . The wires were connected to the ptt line and ground. This cable was routed to a small foot switch ?which I located where the old school, dimmer switches were located .upper left corner of the floor on the drivers side. A computer style cable will work, just check the pin out twice for safety sake and wire to the foot switch. Then I used a headset with a one piece earphone and a boom mic. This I plugged into the mic jack on the back of the rig. So while driving all I had to do was steer with one hand, dial with the other, and key the ptt with my foot. Worked great for me.
