Re: No TX audio on JS8CALL
I'm bringing this thread back to life because I'm having a similar problem with my IC-7000 using the 9600 baud rate. I have a DigiRig Mobile and the idgiRig 6 pin DIN cable, fo rCAT control I am using a USB cable separate from the Digi. The software is VARA FM. The radio is set for 9600 baud per the manual on page 116. I do have audio at the digirig but at the radio when it is in xmit mode the audio input is very low. I have all levels on my laptop at 100% and I have tried different levels thinking I might be overdriving the radio. Just for grins I thought I would also try it on my Yaesu FT-7900R since it has the same 6 pin connection and I still have low output. I don't own a scope so I can't measure the output, the Icom likes to see about 0.4 Vp-p or 0.2 Vrms. Of course, the radio works fine on the SignaLink using the 13 pin cable on HF, but FM comms at 9600 baud is my main goal here. I hope somebody has this figured out. Laptop is running Win11.

Re: shut down / restart on keying, now no power
Make sure that all of the power connections are clean and tight. If the fuse holders are still in your power cable especially make sure that they are clean, bright and tight.
Also if you have a dummy load see if with a short cable to it the radio still cuts out. (after cleaning the connections.) |
shut down / restart on keying, now no power
Hello all,?
?
I have a problem I'm hoping for help with. Three different times last week, my IC-7K shut off when I keyed and then immediately restarted. I've never previously experienced this in the two years I've had the IC-7K, with daily use (99% CW). The third time it shut down/restarted I was in the middle of a traffic net, which I finished after the rig restarted, no problems, and I turned off the rig as always. And then it wouldn't turn back on.
?
I know very little about electronics, and I'd very much appreciate any thoughts.
?
Many thanks,
73,

Re: IC7000 no HF power out but VHF/UHF ok
James, All functions work on all bands for receive.? Because of that I believe the filters and switches are functioning properly. There is no SWR, power meter or ALC meter for HF transmit at any power setting.? Only a very slight deflection at the external power meter (less than 0.25W).? The deflection increases slightly for 10 meters and 6 meters but all well below 1W. It is just not amplifying significantly beyond the driver. I am puzzled Thanks Tommy KF4RWG On Sun, Nov 10, 2024 at 4:14?PM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote:

IC7000 no HF power out but VHF/UHF ok
I purchased the radio with this symptom. ?Everything seems to work for VHF/UHF. ?This means the driver is functioning. ?When I trace the HF signal with a scope past the driver I do see a signal that varies with the power adjustment. ?This indicates to me that the ALC is functioning. ?The finals were removed and checked good with a transistor checker. ?The HF signal through the driver output seems to lose amplitude down the path through the finals and is negligable at the antenna connector. ?All this through a power meter and a dummy load. I would appreciate any suggestions or help to diagnose the problem.

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Hi Geoff
nothing on the S-meter, but occasionally the unit starts to splatter high levels of audio when warmed up - nothing recognizable just splatter.
The 8v regulator underneath the main board gets pretty hot - from what i have read this may be normal.
Just waiting for the replacement Ic551 now

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Good work James. Did you see anything on the display like a reaction on the S meter. Won't be surprised if not as some of the clocking inputs to the codec chip come from the clocking I/O pins of the ADSP chip along with the chip select for the codec IC551. Well you've proven the audio path from AOUT +/-, now to get a digital codec signal out of SDTO and back into SDTI. Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
James can you capacitively feed an audio signal, no greater than say 3Vpp, onto the pins 25/26 and see if you can hear/see any reaction. Monitor the signal at these pins with a CRO to see if its loaded down at all. Also, pay some close attention to all the ribbon cables that run from the Logic board to the Main board. Look for proper seating and damaged tracks on these cables. Its quite possible someone before you has had a go at this radio. Geoff Bob, I hear you. :-) On Wed, Nov 6, 2024 at 7:39?AM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
Hi all
I checked ic551 pins 10 - 14 and only pin 10 has the 24mhz clock, 11-14 are 0v no activity at all- even from a power off to on state.
I ordered a replacement IC from China - will take a week or so to arrive.
I will replace the chip and let you know how it goes

Geoff, These posts on troubleshooting are interesting, not annoying. They're good reading. Bob W4JFA On Sun, Nov 3, 2024 at 11:49?PM Geoff via <vk3zgw=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: FT8
I recently bought an IC-7000.? During my very first QSO (on QRP 70cm CW) my QSO partner (Chris GU3TUX) noticed frequency jumps at the start of each of my transmissions.? He kindly informed me, and I found the article by Daniel SM6VFZ via a Google search.
I also heard the frequency jumps when listening to GU3TUX after a TX-to-RX transition (when I went from TX to RX). ? I inserted a small piece of 10 mm thick medium density foam to fill the gap between the TCXO and the rear heat sink, and which filled the small gap between the side of the fan and the edge of the PCB.? ? No adhesive was needed: only the gentle pressure as the PCB was screwed back into position.? Initial tests in the shack indicate a complete resolution of the drifting/jumping issue.? I am very pleased? :-) Thank you, Daniel SM6VFZ! |
