Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Good work James. Did you see anything on the display like a reaction on the S meter. Won't be surprised if not as some of the clocking inputs to the codec chip come from the clocking I/O pins of the ADSP chip along with the chip select for the codec IC551. Well you've proven the audio path from AOUT +/-, now to get a digital codec signal out of SDTO and back into SDTI. Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
James can you capacitively feed an audio signal, no greater than say 3Vpp, onto the pins 25/26 and see if you can hear/see any reaction. Monitor the signal at these pins with a CRO to see if its loaded down at all. Also, pay some close attention to all the ribbon cables that run from the Logic board to the Main board. Look for proper seating and damaged tracks on these cables. Its quite possible someone before you has had a go at this radio. Geoff Bob, I hear you. :-) On Wed, Nov 6, 2024 at 7:39?AM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
Hi all
I checked ic551 pins 10 - 14 and only pin 10 has the 24mhz clock, 11-14 are 0v no activity at all- even from a power off to on state.
I ordered a replacement IC from China - will take a week or so to arrive.
I will replace the chip and let you know how it goes

Geoff, These posts on troubleshooting are interesting, not annoying. They're good reading. Bob W4JFA On Sun, Nov 3, 2024 at 11:49?PM Geoff via <vk3zgw=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: FT8
I recently bought an IC-7000.? During my very first QSO (on QRP 70cm CW) my QSO partner (Chris GU3TUX) noticed frequency jumps at the start of each of my transmissions.? He kindly informed me, and I found the article by Daniel SM6VFZ via a Google search.
I also heard the frequency jumps when listening to GU3TUX after a TX-to-RX transition (when I went from TX to RX). ? I inserted a small piece of 10 mm thick medium density foam to fill the gap between the TCXO and the rear heat sink, and which filled the small gap between the side of the fan and the edge of the PCB.? ? No adhesive was needed: only the gentle pressure as the PCB was screwed back into position.? Initial tests in the shack indicate a complete resolution of the drifting/jumping issue.? I am very pleased? :-) Thank you, Daniel SM6VFZ! |
Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
Hi Geoff
Nothing out of IC551 pins 25 and 26 which feed IC601 , ic601 is underneath so very hard to get to but checked on ic551 pins 25 and 26 and nothing at all with a good clean signal on pin 4. i haven't checked pin 13 on 551 yet but will try and get to it by the end of the week. Also thinking about ordering another chip to replace ic551 - they are relatively cheap and worth a shot. If it doesn't fix the problem then the issue lies somewhere else

Re: [IC-7000] Re: Front panel troubleshooting
James, The datasheet for IC551 is on the internet and maybe worth a look. You say you have the analogue signal at IC551 is it pin 4. Can you see anything at R611, R615, or the filter device IC601 pin 5. Do you see a digital signal from IC551 pin 13? Do you have a logic analyser you could use? Maybe we can continue off Group to save annoying others. My callsign + gmail. Cheers Geoff On Mon, Nov 4, 2024 at 8:35?AM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote: Thanks Paul |

开云体育Logic units have been a relatively high failure item. Icom never even attempted to repair them except for the CI-V components. The latest price list I have from Icom does list the part as being available. It’s US$353.29. Ouch! ? Thank You ? Paul W. Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Hi Tommy
Not sure, the audio in and out of this IC also go through the DSP.
The fact that no audio passes through this chip Rx or tx either means a complete failure of ic551 or the DSP has some issue which is going to be hard to find given the board is only accessible on one side.
I could try to obtain ic551 and replace it but I think if I can get a spare board it might be an easier option
