Also, got a TS-520S, my first and only Kenwood, it tuned 80 watts on most bands, replaced the driver, got 100, sold it for $100.00 more than I paid. Got an MFJ-993B off Ebay, works fine, will tune a barbed wire fence. Also a MFJ-931 to make a ground where there isn't. The 931 had a dirty meter, but I replaced that, and it works fine. Of course, if everybody was alike, this would be a dull world! Enjoy your 7K! 73 de KC4BO Alex Netherton <> On Mon, Dec 30, 2013 at 9:20 AM, Bill Boyer <daweasel@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI do business on eBay occasionally and have had only one incident where I had to get eBay customer service involved. I purchased an EF Johnson radio which was suppose to be new, with a specific firmware version on it. I had taken it to my local EF Johnson service center, who confirmed that the radio was old enough that EF Johnson was no longer supporting that particular radio and there was no way it was what had been advertised. Therefore, it could not be programmed or used without the specific, proprietary software, which was not available from the manufacturer or the eBay company I purchased the radio from. So, I contacted the seller advising them of this. Since I was pushing my 14 day return period at this point, due to a holiday and the scheduling at the service center, I also advised that I was shipping the radio back. It was refused upon delivery. I contacted customer service at this point and within 2 days of having my statement, I received an email from them indicating that they would be refunding my money and had included a shipping label to ship the radio back to the seller. My full, refund was received the next day by PayPal. My point is, eBay is not as bad as it once was, as far as getting ripped off. ...Please forgive me for any possible typos. :-) On Dec 31, 2013, at 2:40, BT Yahoo!?2013 <robert.farey@...> wrote:

DSC for IC 7000
Rene S
Hello all,
Don't hate me for a crazy question. Is there any way to connect my GPS to my ham radio and then use it as a emergency DSC call on my sailboat? A marine SSB will have a DSC emergency button that is pushed and the lat/long of the vessel is automatically sent. The DSC sets off a tone on other radios and turns of their squelch so that the message can be heard as well as sending a text message of the lat/long. I suspect this is impossible, but I was wondering if there is a way. Rene Steinhauer s/v Witchdoctor II KJ6BYK |

Hi i know so many amateurs have this attitude about buying things less than the market price. however it usually leads to problems as such goods sometimes have faults and with cables such as these you can't fix it if it is faulty having moulded plugs on the end. yes i have a IC7000 and two mounting brackets which i purchased from a amateur radio dealer. and the two cables one at 6 meters and one at 10 meters in length as guessing which when routed around my 4x4 was going to be an issue as the car has the usual CANN BUSS which the car uses to work it's electronics and induction does cause problems. thank goodness the icom cables also come with a screen built in another issue worth considering. so what is wrong if you buy the best you get the best. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? I took the connector off mine and threw it in the junk box. I have heard horror stories of reverse polarity, the thing wasn't tuning on my 7K, so I now just go into AM mode, key for a few seconds, go back to SSB, and no time lost. Re: PTT switch failure (final)
That's a common problem after a few years. ?Here are a couple of links to additional info, including a part # for a new improved switch. You may want to order a spare switch, since apply a soldering iron for extended times using solder wick usually shortens its life. Steve, W3AHL |
PTT switch failure (final)
My apologies to the group for the draft that got sent by mistake earlier!
Here is the final version. Well after 7 years the PTT switch finally went in my 7000. I was on 40, mobile last week, checking into ECARS. Net control turned it back to me and the rig would not go into xmit. Thought I blew the finals again. Not too much I could do at 70 MPH. I was surprised there is no xmit switch on the front panel. Never looked for one before. After a while the brain engaged and I used the canned CQ I had in memory. Yes, I had full output. Eventually I went to VOX and had some QSO's. Could not do anything with the mike since I was visiting family for Christmas and 500 miles away from the home QTH. Well today I finally got to the mike. Thought the RJ45 cable was the culprit but I had continuity. Took the mike apart. Everything is on a PC board. Not too much to go wrong there. The PTT switch is a tiny critter. Hard to probe but I eventually convinced myself it was not working. Thought I would pull the switch. Reached for the solder wick. What a waste of time. The pins are such a tight fit in the board holes, it was impossible for me to clear all the solder. It looks like the only way to remove the switch was to destroy it and unsolder the pins one at a time. That did not appeal to me. I was embarrassed to figure it had to go back to ICOM for a switch replacement! Either that or buy a used mike. Out of desperation I put a few drops of deoxit around the switch button and it is now working. Not very sophisticated but it got the job done. Hope someone can benefit from my experience. 73, Bill, K3PGB |
PTT switch
Well after 7 years the PTT switch finally went in my 7000. I was on 40, mobile last week, checking into ECARS. Netr control turned it back to me and the rig would nbot go into xmit. Thought I blew the finals again. Not too mnuvch I couild do atr 70 MPH. I ws surprised there is no xmit switch on the front panel. Never looked for one befotre. After a whilke the braib engaged and I used the casnned CQ I hasd in memory. Yes, I had full output. Eventually I wnt to VOX and had somne QSO's.
Could not do anything wiyth the mike since I was visitring famikly for Christmas and 500 miklews away from ythe home QTH. Wekll today I finally got to the mike. Thougt the RJ45 was the culprit but I had continbuity. Took the mike aopart/ Everything is on a PC board. Not too much to go wrong thee. The PTT swtrich is a tiny critter. Had to probre but I eventuaklly convinced myself it was not working. Thought I would pull the switch. Reachred for the solder wick. What a waste of time. The pins are such a tight fit it was imposssible for me tio clear all thre solder. It loks like the onl;y way to remove the switch is to desroy it and remove the pins one aqt a time. That did not appeal to me. I was embarassed to figure it had to go back to UICOM for a switch! Eithrer that ior buy ased muike. Out of desperation I put a |

I am from the "don't force anything"school and is why I never work on my cars because I get really frustrated if it doesn't come off easily. I too felt that I would damage something like the pins which is why I decided to just leave it on. But I see that this is a common problem and will keep working on it and will post when I get it off so we can all celebrate -:) bb On Friday, December 27, 2013 5:50 PM, Jon Till wrote:

Oh yes, the 4-pin molex connector. I hate that thing.
As Brian mentioned if you put some tension on it and wiggle it from side to side it will slowly start to come loose. I thought I was going to rip the radio part of the connector out the back of the radio the first time I tried it. What I ended up doing was to use a small flat blade screwdriver. If you pull on the back on the connector you will see a small gap appear between the two parts of the connector. I inserted the screwdriver in that gap to carefully pry the the two parts of the connector apart until it finally came loose. The reason I used the gap between the two halves was I did not want to risk putting tension on the radio side of the connector and end up pulling it loose from the back of the radio.
