Re: [IC-7000] RE: icom 7000 book for dummies

Tony,
Can you send me a link for that PDF user guide? the one I have is un
searchable.... it seems that someone just scanned it and convert it to PDF
so it's like an image and you can't search for a text within it.
Thank you

Umm, no idea on an exact link. I just googled "IC-7000 manual", and picked my way through the results.

Yes there is a book Ham Radio For Dummies. You can order it from Amazon. It is a very general and basic book but probably not a good book to learn about the basic features of your ICOM 7000. I found that the preamble to the chapters in the ARRL Handbook much more informative about what things do and how they operate. Of course the ICOM 7000 manual is a great source of information but assumes you know something about ?what things are. I think between the two you should be fine. For how to be a ham operator the ARRL books excel there too. Hope this helps.

Hi I am new to this group I have problems with no ssb on tx

Hi I am new to this group my name is Helen Vk3ry

I have lost SSB upper and lower on my rig.
I have been able to track the lack of TX down to the 1st IF?
my thoughts it may be the processor, the rig is quite happy on am fm Rtty
and good on ex. it implies the Dac is ok too,alc indicates very high alc although there is no alc voltage.
I sure I am not the only one with this prob? ? ? ??
Any one with similar experience?
KInd regards Helen VK3RY

Re: AGC setting?????

Slow for SSB and CW
Medium if there are large static crashes
Fast for digital modes

If you listen to an SSB QSO with fast AGC, you can tell right away how annoying the background noise is.

I spend more time on digital modes than anything else these days, so I tend to use fast AGC, which usually works best for digital.??? Yes, slow is usually better for SSB, unless conditions are rapidly fading or there's other strong signals or static present.

I've still got the itch for a 7410 so I'm willing to part with my 7000.

Late Serial number new in Jan 2012
very little use, never run mobile
No Mods - Radio has never been opened
HM-151 Microphone with AB5N upgrade
Separation kit - never opened
Non-Smoking never exposed to smoke
All boxes, manuals and paperwork
Laminated Quick Reference sheet for IC-7000
Will take $1000, USPS Money Order or Paypal OK with fee
Will trade up to IC-7410

I'd like to meet around Middle Tennessee if possible, no problem to ship.

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The filters are not the crystal or mechanical filters we are used to in most earlier radios but defined in software by the DSP system. This allows the control of the pass band and shape of the filter by the operator. There will be some leakage due to the limitations of the DSP to completely block out of pass band signals as there is with the older style discrete filters. The sound of the filters will be a bit different too due to the way the DSP works.
The sharp edges will have a slightly different sound to the rounded edges and will also react differently to noise and type of signal. This really up to yhr operator to decide which sounds best in the condition to them. I have difficulty deciding which is best as to my ears. The shape does not alter the bleed through much as the bleed through is determined more by the skirts and how deep they go down before the digital system can not block the out of band noise.
As DSP systems improve, then we can look forward to better performance but nothings perfect and the IC7000 is one of the earlier affordable radios using this filter system.

This isn't really an IC-7000 question, but one that holds for all
operating.

AGC speed is a personal thing about what you prefer. If you run it on
fast all the time, you'll get tired of listening. If you run it on slow
all the time, you will miss many things on fast exchange QSOs and
general listening. Mine is in constant adjustment, depending on what I
am listening to. Generally, the slower you can run it, the more relaxed
listening you will have. But you can't do that when fast QSB is
involved, or listening to stations that vary greatly in strength. It
all depends on what you are using your radio for at the time, and to a
certain extent, band condx.
