For everyday operation, I generally run 400 Hz. It provides good selectivity without sounding too harsh. In contests, or when operating a DXpedition with my 7000, I will often narrow it down to 200 Hz or so, to be able to pull out a single signal from the pileup. On other radios (e.g., my IC-7600) I will also engage the Audio Passband Filters (a second set of filters in the audio chain, beyond the regular filters in the IF) to really clean things up. If you are operating totally "in the clear," i.e., no nearby signals and good signal strength, you can open the filter up to 1 KHz or so and it will have a more "natural" sound, to most people's ears. Hi the signals you hear are not morse or CW which is set in carrier on carrier off but in afsk cw is usually sent in FSK which is carrier on carrier off. AFSK uses a applied tone oscillator. so that is why it is received as a LSB or USB signal. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????? regards Robert G6LLP From: Bill Boyer To: ic7000@... Re: icom 7000 book for dummies
Yes there is a book Ham Radio For Dummies. You can order it from Amazon. It is a very general and basic book but probably not a good book to learn about the basic features of your ICOM 7000. I found that the preamble to the chapters in the ARRL Handbook much more informative about what things do and how they operate. Of course the ICOM 7000 manual is a great source of information but assumes you know something about ?what things are. I think between the two you should be fine. For how to be a ham operator the ARRL books excel there too. Hope this helps. ---In ic7000@..., <jab3739@...> wrote: Hello to the group, I have not taken time to see if one exist but thought I would ask the group and shorten my research time to find such a book if it exist. I've still got the itch for a 7410 so I'm willing to part with my 7000.
Late Serial number new in Jan 2012 very little use, never run mobile No Mods - Radio has never been opened HM-151 Microphone with AB5N upgrade Separation kit - never opened Non-Smoking never exposed to smoke All boxes, manuals and paperwork Laminated Quick Reference sheet for IC-7000 Will take $1000, USPS Money Order or Paypal OK with fee Will trade up to IC-7410 I'd like to meet around Middle Tennessee if possible, no problem to ship. |

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode
开云体育Check the filter bandwidth settings (both high and low) and also IF shift
in case they have been set to some unusual values. Could easily cause the
muffled sound you have.

Thanks all, I'll look I to it. It's strange though that with all the other
modes everything sounds fine. I would think the filters would be set for those
too but I'm still learning how this rig works.

Thanks again

Does this just turn the radio into a dstar repeater, or does it add dstar to the radio? On Nov 17, 2013 8:58 PM, "Tony Langdon" <vk3jed@...> wrote:

Tony, I was wondering what software you use and interface. I can't get the 7000 to tx when in USB modes for digi stuffHam Radio Deluxe, RMS Express, dl-fldigi (though used in Rx only for balloon tracking), PC-ALE, Digipan, that I can recall.? Interface is a G4ZLP with CAT (i.e. CI-V) support, and a separate serial port for PTT (I don't use CAT PTT unless I need to). I've also used a DV-RPTR D-STAR adapter into the data port, and again, no issues with PTT. -- 73 de Tony VK3JED/VK3IRL |

Re: [IC-7000] CW Mode

Your CW filter is probably set for 500 hz, and it sounds like that when the bandwidth changes. You want to hear something really funny and muffled, engage the DSP; I cannot stand it, so listen to more noise. Just used to older radios. If you can get used to DSP, much of the noise will be eliminated, occasionally to the detriment of weak signals. Unless you have a KW and a beam, weak signals are hardly worth the bother. It sounds that way because the filter is very
narrow. filter #1 1.2K #2 500 k #3 is250k.

开云体育When I turn my 7k to the CW mode, for some reason all the background noise sounds really muffled.? If I then switch it to LSB or USB, I can hear the CW tones that are being sent by other stations.? Why do I have set wrong on my unit and how do I fix it so I can use this correctly. ? Thanks, ? Re: [IC-7000] Is IC 7000 a good pactor radio ?
开云体育Hi Robert G6LLP ,Maybe some of the problems come from the fact that KAM , and many similar TNC made for Packet, are not really complaining with the Pactor lev.1 protocol !! I never had such troublem with SCS PtcII 1st version ( I have it from 1993) and followers, but had many many with a KAM+ that was not able to stay synchro with the SCS , because of the intrinsic weakness that their protocol implementation discount gave them. Apart from them, the implementation of soft with sound carts for the Pactor protocols suffer from the timing issues of Windows. A well known issue among soundcard soft developers. If you like more doc on pactor prootocols, look for them in the SCS Gmbh PTCII pages, and have a glance at the Dragon , the Level4 monster. 73 de Augusto I2JJR HB9TZA ?
