Re: [IC-7000] Re: LDG IT-100 Tuner for the IC-7000

My choice is the LDG AT-200 series; Mark 2 preferred. Higher voltage rated caps and coils and universal application!

Re: [IC-7000] LDG IT-100 Tuner for the IC-7000

Grant Saviers

When they work, the LDG tuners are great. I have two and both have failed on the IC7000. On one (base station) the antenna switch relay was a dead short to both antennas and on the second, some relay in the tuning tree is bad. LDG did send me a new relay for the antenna failure, it is clearly a better part. They seem particularly failure prone if the swr drifts around as on a boat (second failure was MM on a ship) or mobile installation and tuning cycles a lot. A friend also had his fail and got no joy from LDG re repairs.

IMO, if you run 100 watts, better get a much higher power rating tuner.

My IC-7000 is installed in the car full time. I use the
Hustler mobile antenna system. It has a 54 inch mast and
I just screw on resonators for the frequency I want to work.

I couldn't get my 80 meter resonator much under 2:1.
It received and transmitted OK, but the 2:1 SWR was causing
the protection circuits to lower the output power of the rig
by about 20 Watts.

I bought an IT-100 and put it in the trunk next to the radio.
It fixed the low output power problem.

Not only that, but I picked up a 102 inch CB whip that I
screw on top of the 54 inch mast giving me a whip with a
total length of 13 feet (3.9 Meters).

With the tuner, the whip works from 20 through 10 meters and
it gets out well. The only problem is that I can't drive with it
in place. It's only for stationary use.

Re: [IC-7000] LDG IT-100 Tuner for the IC-7000

I'll add I have my 7000 sitting on the IT-100. Makes as small of a package as
possible for a HF, VHF,UHF rig.

I also use an Anstron SS-30M power supply.

I plan to take this gear, in my motorhome, to FL for the witner in 2 weeks.

Apparently I must be getting out fine no matter what the power meter says. Just talked halfway across the country on PSK and the power meter dint move at all. I reckon I still have some learning to do.

On mine it was the Rubbish blade fuse holders.

Check the fuse holders after the power has dropped. If they are warm. That is the problem.

I replaced them with 1 1/4" long tubular 30Amp fuses. end of problem.

Good luck and seasons greetings.

Had the same thing with my 7000 when it was 1 hour old. :/ The driver stage

Google for it and you will find a PDF which describes the symptoms and how

OK maybe I'm not understanding the ALC adjustment and the power meter correctly.
I can adjust the transmit level on the soundcard to the lowest setting in DM780
and I see just a hint of ALC on the ALC meter, but when I do that I see no
movement at all on the power meter. Adjusting the transmit level up a little
bit where I see something on the ALC meter I begin to see the power meter go
up. Shouldn't the power meter correspond to the RF power I have the radio set
at or am I confused?
The simplest way to think of ALC is as a limiter. The harder you drive the
transmitter, the higher the ALC should read. If you increase the audio input
from zero slowly, the power should go up with no ALC at all until it reaches a
certain point. At that point, the ALC should go up and the power should stay
the same. PSK should run very low power, half or less of your full power
setting, with no ALC showing. Turn the power all the way up (100W), slowly
increase the audio from the sound card to the transmitter input until you show
35-45 watts, or less. There should be no ALC at that point. THIS ALL ASSUMES
YOU HAVE A PERFECT MATCH - little or no reflected power. This procedure goes
for any normal SSB transmitter.

Agreed.

I have the IC-7000 and the IT-100 tuner in my GoBox. I would recommend
replacing the crimped Coax jumper that LDG supplies with their tuner. Mine
fell apart. I replaced it with soldered connectors. Old School, but I
still like to solder the cables!

YMMV!
