Hey All I am VP2ETE and have been running an Icom 7000 for just over 6
months. I have been using it for SSB only and on Deember 11th 2012 at about
607 UTC while in the heart of some DX ing I heard a pop and then observed
smoke coming from the radio. I immediately shut the station down and waited
a while before bringing it back up. I restarted the Icom 7000 and surely it
is receiving OK but not transmitting.
I have been running the radio on 90 watts and the temperature gauge never
went into the red area. I have been keeping the room quite cool via AC and
a fan. I have no amplifier in the shack and at the time of the incident
been using an inverted Vee antenna cut specifically for 40 meters up about
35 feet.
I would like some suggestions from the group as members are much more
experience than I am as I have only been a ham for 24 months.
Thanks all VP2ETE
