Hi Bob I would say that those who stay subscribed to groups like this are keen to follow the questions and answers to all and varied Hammond problems.? I would hope this list is searchable and could possibly help someone else in the future.? OK, that's cool just trying to cut down on messages floating around.
So this is my problem.? I have an X-66.? All power supply DC voltages are right at spec.? Tonewheel Generator (TG) sounds and runs great.? When you unit is turned on, faint notes can be heard from all keys and appear to be at proper frequencies.? But the tones do not change with any changes in drawbars or tabs.? Also there is a loud background noise which when the expression peddle is advanced gets very loud. Switched tone cabinets so those are not the problem. Those are the facts as of this time.? Input of any nature is appreciated. |

I had one years ago but not those problems. Try this with the organ on and med volume.
Push all resets on and off to see if it changes, do the tabs the same way this may take several times. On the left side, try holding down the cancel key while rapidly pushing each preset about 20 times as fast as you can, you are looking for some change in tones, next ? try shifting the busbars, also it sounds like it could be in the filter section. The tone cabinets only produce sounds from the organ not on their own unless it was a hum. Let Me Know if it changes, ? Jim Mc |

Thanks for your input.? Did what you said with the exception of the BusBar.? I couldn't find any reference to them on the X-66 so don't think it has them.? I could be wrong,.? I know my other Hammonds do.? No change inn the organ performance or lack thereof.
Additional note on the noise:? It sounds like a motor spinning up and them stabilizing.? Any chance the drive motor on the Tonewheel generator could be causing a problem?? This organ doesn't have a grounded plug.? Should I run a ground to the chassis?

Bob,, I will have to see if I still have a service manual out in the garage, in the mean time their is a web site in Mexico where Paco De La Rosa has the X66 Hammond club, he has a great service man that is outstanding on the X66. He has several X66s and his service man could probably give you some solutions to your problems. ? Type in Hammond X66 club and look for him. You can also look on youtube for Paco at the X66,? mention my name to him and he will probably help you..

I do have a complete set of schematics and I'm slowly working through them.? I just bought the X66 two weeks ago so this is all new to me.?
I did play around with the scanner and it did not change anything.?
Also I did put in a request to register with the X66 club three weeks ago and as of this date, my membership has not been approved.?
I am going to try and isolate each of the output channels and see the noise is on all of them or just some.? Work backwards if there is a difference.

Jim - I've isolated the weird motor like noise. It's coming from the TAB Voice Channel.? Drawbar channel A and Drawbar channel B are still very weak and volume is not changed by use of the expression peddle.

Looks like you have narrowed it down to the bad circuits on the boards, it will take some time to figure out which transistor or transistors are causing the problem.? It has been 15 years since I worked on mine and it took me several days checking them to find all of my problems. I replaced several of them.

Well it's a start but as they say a journey of a million miles begins with a single step.? Well that's where I am. . .step 1.?
Still looking for input regarding low level signal from? TG and lack of function of drawbars and tabs.? Any input from anyone is appreciated.

The biggest trouble with the X66 is it only has12 wheels on the generator and all the sounds are divided into all of the sounds for the organ. If you have? a way to check the output of the generator
then back track to the filter board to see where you start loosing the signal and on which board you are checking you might? get lucky enough to find the culprit. I only hope someone else has some experience in helping you as I am out of ideas. Jim Mc |

I am assuming that my divider circuits are working because I do have proper tones on each and every key.? What I don't know is the amplitude of the signal from the TG feeding them.? I may be wrong in this assumption, but shouldn't the output of the TG remain constant regardless of age?? Rotating wheel, magnetic field, seems impervious to age in my book (unlike myself).
Can you or anyone answer that question?
I guess looking at the proportional keyers is the next step after the TG and as you said the Flute filters.
I'm gonna get a scope and do some checking of wave forms and P-P outputs.? As I said, I'm new to this, but there is a lot of winter left here so it will keep my mind busy.? Better then doing crossword puzzles.
