Re: Miricale whip / MFJ-1621 Portable antenna's
Julian... Can you give me a page reference in the current QST for the Miracle whip "review"? Assuming you mean the August issue, I can't find it. There was an article on how to build one a month or so

Re: Ten Tecs New Toy
Looks great! I'll be ordering one of those as soon they hit the street. QRP, Ten-Tec QSK, and IF-DSP ... at less than the cost of a loaded K2! I'm in!

Re: Advice on CW and the 817???
The FT817 is fine for CW. It lacks true QSK (full break in) which allows the sender to hear the received signal between the dits and dahs, but works fine in "semi" mode. Not a problem for most of us.

Re: Z11 batteries
higher finally got the I called Superantennas about this and they said that this was not a problem. Something about peak voltage vs sustained voltage. Been using 2 9v NiMH with no problem.

Re: 6 Meters, WOW!
Daniel, I'm sorry your having such a problem making contacts on 6m QRP. While I've not done allot of 6m QRP I know it can be done. One summer I spent a week in the Bahamas where I worked several

Re: Superantennas' Ft-817 mount
The Superantennas MP-1 mount is an aluminum (or aluminium) plate relieved so the strap bracket may be left on your FT-817, attached to the left side of the radio by four screws which replace those

Yet another FD report
Our club was QRP this year and I worked PSK31 with my 817 with a MP-1 and Z-11 tuner. Only problem I had was interference from OUR clubs 20 and 40 meter CW stations. They had dipoles at about 30 feet

Re: Miricale whip / MFJ-1621 Portable antenna's
I think you'll find, when all the hoopla is settled down that the Miracle whip does no better or worse than all other short whip antennas. Any whip can work without a counterpoise. You have to define

Superantenna 817 mount
Thanks to all for pointing me to file photos. I'm familiar with general need for radials/counterpoises. Anyone have any comments on merely trailing a length of small gauge hook-up wire from one's belt

Re: Superantennas' Ft-817 mount
It's just a bracket with a CB type 3/8 -> SO-239 adapter mounted on it. You could easily make one up yourself. I think it clamps to one of the "legs" on the bottom of the radio. There are pictures of

Hello, folks. I'm new here and will definitely be getting an 817. This little radio looks like great fun and will be bringing me back into the ham fold after many years away. Can someone point me to a

Re: 6 Meters, WOW!
Bill, I'm glad your 6M QRP experience was positive. For the last few weeks, I left my 817 on and around 50.125 with a folded dipole at 55 feet (Grid square FN25) anticipating to hear something. All I

Re: Miricale whip / MFJ-1621 Portable antenna's
Julian, EVERY short monopole needs a counterpoise - and most of the long ones, too. The penalties for not using a counterpoise are reduced efficiency (greatly reduced, for a short monopole) and

Re: MP-1 Antenna
It's a standard, coil-loaded vertical antenna, Richard. A tube with contacts inside slides over the coil to adjust its inductance. See http://www.superantennas.com/mp1.html Cortland
