This morning a list member in a collins group I'm a member of apologetically offered a Collins 500 KC CW for $299 - he said he knew the price was outrageous, but that's what they fetch.

He was right, he had a buyer within 10 minutes!

Your comment made me think of it...

It's worth looking at the spec of the TCXO module, the TTS01NS part is
intended to run from 3V but is 5V tolerant although with a significantly
worse temperature coefficient. Whatever the new part is may be similar.

I modified my TTS01NS based older TCXO-9 with a 3V SOT-23 low noise LDO
regulator with several extra decoupling caps fitted too. It is back to
better stability with this mod.

Re: Output power

SSB does not generate a carrier when the PTT is pressed.? You need audio to cause an actual signal to be generated.? Use CW and a key.

Hi Douglas,

?

The antenna port can be selected for each band individually.

?

An ¡®R¡¯ will be on the screen next to the Frequency when the rear connector is selected. No R = Front (BNC) connector.

?

The default is HF/6 on rear, VHF/UHF on front.

Re: Chinese FT-817 TCXO?

Good Morning Petr,
Yes the Internet is? very wide and deep If you do Find the Information Please Post, I Have tried different variations so far No Luck.
So Far In All Of My Years of? FT-817's Operations I have Not Noticed " phase noise" problem. Did Notice what may be interpreted as " phase noise"? when USERS where using? Switching? PSU "Bricks and even "Fancy" Switching Power Supplies that? where curable? that had "noise offset" adjustment capabilities The "Bricks" even the best still had what som with ( 20 year old hearing) abilities, Hi Hi may call " phase noise" .
The Funny Part? that I noticed, that in some recent Florida Hamfests You can pick up a FT-817 for the Asking "Cost" of a Collins CW Filter.

Re: Output power

FT817 uses the same TX power train for all bands (unlike '857 and most other all-band radios)
If you have zero power on some band it is very unlikely to be any of the transistors.

Look at the block diagram (pg 5 of service manual)

- Relay RL3017 is the HF/ VU filter switch.
- there are pin diode switches on the IF board that select HF filter bank
- there are control signals in the front panel flex that could interfere with the switching
- There are eeprom settings for each band that might be able to turn the power off
- front rear antenna relay as already mentioned - an RX noise check should let you know that it really is working the way you think it is for those bands.

Measuring the DC current on AM TX might tell you if the finals are running but there is a break after them (e.g. RL3017).
(There are mini-jumpers for the driver and final transistors VDD, so it is also quite easy to check actual final current.)
