FT817 and FM Digital
Hello all: We use fldigi for my local ares group. ?I want to use my FT817 for some simple practice at our local face to face meetings. ?When I go to transmit I don't get any audio out of the radio. I know you need to use the "User-U" mode for digital on HF, but I'm working with people with baofengs on 2m fm... Many thanks, Jonathan? KC1BOS |

Just got an 817 up and running,?
New drivers, aligned bias, it is now sounding great. I am now trying to read the 817 with Chirp and keep getting this error. block 00 expected 4 got 2. Anyone got any ideas? Same laptop same program, same USB cable as I program my 857 and past 817's. Frank KG9H |

Re: TX Inhibit
Taking the TX inhibit pin on the ACC connector high inhibits transmission (although the radio still switches to transmit mode). ?I've read some posts in various places which talk about the 817 sensing when a plug is inserted into the ACC socket and causing the line to be pulled high so that you have to actively pull it low in order to be able to transmit. ?I haven't actually verified this (it's certainly not the case on digital modes in my experience) but at least one discussion (on the AMSAT site I think) claims to have verified this by experiment. ?However, I've looked at the schematic and can't see any obvious evidence of this. ?But whether there's a sensor or not, pulling the line high (greater than 5 volts) will inhibit transmission and pulling it low will enable it. ?Hope that helps.

Re: TX Inhibit
I use this feature as part of my 10GHz transverter sequencing. i am pretty sure, albeit from memory, that a high (+12v) voltage on the TX Inh input will disable any RF out even though teh radio does switch to transmit mode.

Winlink Success!
Not sure if others have figured this out, but I thought I’d share: I sent my first successful winlink messages with my FT-817nd.
I was using a Signalink connected to the 6 pin DIN port. I set to DIG mode and then configured DIG to USER-U. I set the offset to +0. The manual suggested +2100 as a starting point, but I had no joy on that setting. Once I changed it to +0, it started working fine. I used an FTDI <-> USB CAT cable that I got from Amazon for rig control that worked flawlessly. I also own a K5INZ interface. I’d like to get it working instead of the Signalink. It’s a bit smaller and lighter. It connects to the mic port and speaker jack on the FT-817nd. I was able to see the waterfall, but I was not able to send any messages. I’ll have to experiment with this some more to see what I was doing wrong. I switched the radio to USB and I changed the sound card configuration on my Win8 tablet to reflect the internal sound card. I’d really like to get the CAT control to engage the PTT so I don’t have to enable VOX with the K5INZ. I had this working, but I must have audio levels not set properly. I was not able to make a connection. I’m very happy with my setup. I’m using a Dell Venue 8 Tablet. It’s almost the same size as the FT-817nd. So it all fits together nicely in a small bag that I use. --... ...-- Bob Mueller K8MD bob@... (mailto:bob@...) |

Re: TX Inhibit
开云体育If the microphone PTT line is a pull down to ground or some
such function, you might be able to tie that line high. If there's anything on
the rear panel which serves the same function a similar method might be used
there as well. Just a thought without a diagram in front of me.

开云体育Rudy, right? Good to hear from you. That's a thought since
I've been ramping up, on paper at least, a scratch glider design. It's further
for me now though. When is it?
