Not sure if others have figured this out, but I thought I’d share: I sent my first successful winlink messages with my FT-817nd.
I was using a Signalink connected to the 6 pin DIN port. I set to DIG mode and then configured DIG to USER-U. I set the offset to +0. The manual suggested +2100 as a starting point, but I had no joy on that setting. Once I changed it to +0, it started working fine. I used an FTDI <-> USB CAT cable that I got from Amazon for rig control that worked flawlessly.
I also own a K5INZ interface. I’d like to get it working instead of the Signalink. It’s a bit smaller and lighter. It connects to the mic port and speaker jack on the FT-817nd. I was able to see the waterfall, but I was not able to send any messages. I’ll have to experiment with this some more to see what I was doing wrong. I switched the radio to USB and I changed the sound card configuration on my Win8 tablet to reflect the internal sound card. I’d really like to get the CAT control to engage the PTT so I don’t have to enable VOX with the K5INZ. I had this working, but I must have audio levels not set properly. I was not able to make a connection.
I’m very happy with my setup. I’m using a Dell Venue 8 Tablet. It’s almost the same size as the FT-817nd. So it all fits together nicely in a small bag that I use.
