Re: Dealing with a Felder KF-7 Compact saw. #shapersetup #shapertools

Hi?Jay,
A day where you don¡¯t laugh at yourself is a wasted day, in my opinion. Same thing goes for a day where you don¡¯t learn anything new. You got both for the price of one there, so today is a success!
I have a 2004 kf700, and I¡¯ve never used my 30mm spindle (I use my 1 1/4¡± constantly, 1¡± sometimes, and router spindle regularly). If it fits your machine, I¡¯d be happy to sell it to you, though I¡¯m not sure how to check compatibility. And yes, you need two belts, which I happen to have extras of, again, if they¡¯re compatible. Happy to make measurements and take pictures.?

Thank you so much for taking it down to dummie level for me :)??

FYI my spindel setup/arrangement looks identical to yours, as far as i can tell. Does this mean that my choice of spindles increases? I have been eying the quick change setup but i guess that only fits even newer models than yours.

Here is the plate from my machine. (Note the nice 400v sticker;))

How do you handle the 60Hz issue? add/remove weight?

Re: Dealing with a Felder KF-7 Compact saw. #shapersetup #shapertools

When i talked to the local Felder dealer, who i think talked to Felder in Austria, they said all spindles for my machine was discontinued and not available. If this is not the case i will be a happy man:)
Is there anywhere special you see these for sale used?

thanks.

Re: Dealing with a Felder KF-7 Compact saw. #shapersetup #shapertools

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Glad it worked out. I am kind of surprised that the spindle is not available for this circa of KF. I believe following (from us_eshop) is the 3 speed spindle for my 2002 machine. It says out of stock but that does not mean, discontinued.

Now eshop is known to have incorrect info. I always confirm with sale staff for correct part number in a case like this. If you share your machine label, I can check with Felder USA for availability at least in USA. Hopefully, your machine was sold in USA. USA, spindle will be for 60Hz but that can be handled later. First step is to confirm whether it is discontinued or not.

Shaper spindles for your machine should be available from Felder. They also come up used fairly frequently.

Yes, dual51 is 4 post table elevation. As you can see the thickness is very close on ends and slightly thicker in middle. I believe a 20¡± wide board will reflect a combination of 3 runs as, I doubt that the planer head would behave any different.

PS, I see copy paste error on last row (feed location note). Also my triangles moved when I see the file on iphone.

You¡¯re right, .785 is the same as 19.94mm, but .785 is the closest the indicator can get to 20mm, and since it¡¯s set up for resetting to 20mm (being made in Austria), I¡¯m thinking that when we reset, we are actually resetting to 20mm whether or not we¡¯re in metric, and it just calls is .785 if you¡¯re in imperial. Yes, Dave Davies and Michael Marisco, sorry about the "No items found," and here's bit more information. I spoke with Carl Knapp (Felder sales) back when that 2020 holiday VIP special was on and he came up with the part number then added it to my order. I believe the price was $265, minus the 10% VIP discount, plus shipping, so it would indeed be nice if they could come up with some more. I placed the order in mid-December and it took til March for the order to coalesce and ship in one box (ref. the outrageous shipping rates in another FOG thread!).

Jay,

You will get better help if you post pics of what you have.

If your shaper setup is similar to my 2002 machine (see pic) then spindle removal requires following steps.

1. Pull black handle CCW to release belt tension. Following is not necessary but doing it for the first time it might be helpful to move the belt to the lowest position. You probably have 3 belt positions - 3 speeds.
2. Loosen the 2 orange kip levers.
3. Pull the black knob at bottom with right hand as you lift the spindle with left hand. Once the spindle is up like ~30mm the knob can be released.?Pure guess on 30mm but you will know it is high enough because once it is above the licking knob the spindle won¡¯t seat unless you pull the knob out again.?Now use the right hand to move the belt down as the spindle is lifted.

AFAIK, there is one belt for router spindle and another for shaper spindles (30mm & 1.25¡±).
