Initially, I adjusted the bottom wheel (co-planarity) so the 1/8" blade would run in the same position on both wheels. My biggest complaint is that the adjustment of the bottom wheel was blade dependent, big time. Every different blade I put on I was constantly adjusting the bottom wheel to get the blades to track properly. I also think the blade guides are weird. The discs are so large you can't tell where you are on the blade and a lot of times when I put on a different blade I'm getting sparks until I adjust the guides differently. Why not rollers that travel alongside the blade? I also think it's extraordinarily noisy. I knew I should have bought the Felder bandsaw!! While they offered to exchange the wheels if I wanted, I'm having them send the crowning jig instead (seems like less work). We'll see how it turns out. As far as the noise, my reaction was the opposite. I put on the headphones and prepared myself as I powered it up for the first time. I couldn't believe how quiet it is. 3 HP, 220V and nice and quiet. The Felder is remarkably quiet to me compared to my old Delta contractors saw. I'm not giving up on the LT16HD at this point. Still remembering the home delivery experience of a bf-26 twelve years ago and some recent horror shows from fellow fog members, I opted to pick up the new machine at the freight terminal. I hired a flatbed auto transport and accompanied the driver to the terminal about 60 miles from home. Felder pallet was on and secured within 20 minutes. When we got home I thought the best I could do was slide the pallet onto my driveway and rent a pallet jack to go the last 10 feet and through the double doors of my shop. Actually it was much simpler than this. He was able to back the bed of the truck right up to the doors and telescope the machine right inside. Now all I have to do is install the mobility kit and roll the machine off the pallet. From this experience I would highly reccommend this option. For me it was cheaper than the freight companies residential delivery charge, hassle free, and no sore muscles. Now back to unpacking. So many pieces, so little time. I'll check in again as the saga unfolds. glenn warner ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ |

I gotta say, RI, Uninc. does deliver. After receiving my original insert from John, late delivery the fault of the USPS, not the manufacturing or shipping departments, I ordered 2 more for my 7-41. That delivery, after being sent, was in fact delivered the very next day! The recipient, however was RI, and this time the delivery agency was UPS!! Still, despite the screwup, it was remarkably quick service. Since I was planning on coming to Fort Washington for the Mid-Atlantic show in April, I told John ( RI's CEO and chief of product fulfillment) to hang on to them and I would pick them up from him at the Felder booth where he would be moonlighting from his day job and serving as a guest demonstrator and product flogger. He furthur offered to pick up some Krispy Kreme donuts for me and have them at the show (though not in the booth where their life expectancy could be measured in nanoseconds--I did buy a diversionary dozen for the Felder guys as some means of protection, however). At the end of the day I took delivery of my ZCIs and 8 dz. Krispy Kremes. I know you Rochester folk have a new KK store up there, but we are living in a KK donut desert here in the upper Catskills. (I got hooked on these things in 1967 when I was in the Army in VA. Only got re-acquainted with them when SWMBO and I were in the Shenandoah Valley last summer.) KKs make Dunkin Donuts taste like a baker's mistake! BTW, for anyone who is interested, Krispy Kremes freeze well and can be brought back to almost perfect freshness in a micro-wave--defrost until just warm, or until the icing starts to melt. This is a long way around to providing a testimonial for Renzetti Industries, its service- oriented staff, and its outstanding, albiet seriously underpriced ZCI. I gave John $20.00 ea. for the inserts, w/o shipping, and I think that is still too little. May go to the Grand Opening on Sunday, and I so, hope to meet some of the Feldervolk. The clamping system you're looking for is made by JLT Clamps in Poughkeepsie,NY. Their web site is www.jltlancasterclamps.com. They make a heavy unit called the Panel Clamp in various sizes and configurations, and a lighter version called the Redi-Clamp, geared towards small shops and hobbyists, and it is this version that allows the clamps to hang down when not in use. JLT has been around for a long time and is one of the mainstays of the furniture and cabinetmaking industry when it comes to clamping. Hope this helps, Paul LaPierre ----- Original Message -----

Gross-Stabil makes a clamp similar to the Bessey K model which I feel is a more sturdy and better clamp. The jaws are all cast metal w/ removable pads that cost less to replace than those on the Bessey. They also work w/ those nifty support blocks that Bessey makes for setting up clamps to do all four corners on doors while keeping everything level. If you can't find a source for the Gross-Stabil clamps, let me know. I tried both of the Festo RO machines, 5" and 6", at the recent Mid-Atlantic Woodworking show in PA, and they are the best electric RO sanders I have ever seen. Quiet, stable, and no vibration. You can turn on the sander, take your hand off, and it will stay put. Also has a very efficient dust collection system. All sorts of accessories(a la Felder) for doing contour sanding, solid surface work, etc. Haven't gotten one yet, but when the last payment on the current job comes in I'm getting the 6" model. I would be interested in your thoughts on the Hoffman edge flushing machine-despite the cost, I'm leaning in favor of that one over the Virutex. I do a lot of rim-raised panels for architectural work and one of those would save a lot of time over my present edge-flushing method. Hope this helps. Regards, Paul ----- Original Message -----

New Felder Woodworking Machine Group
Geoff Shepherd
John,
I'm sending this message via our new e-mail list hosted by eGroups.com. You and I are both managers of this list (hah, you've been volunteered!), and there is a nice web interface at eGroups to manage the list, set policies, and turn on and off different features. To subscribe to this e-mail group, all one needs to do is send a blank e-mail to: felder-woodworking-subscribe@... To send a message to the entire group (currently compose of only you and me), send e-mail to: felder-woodworking@... I did not want to add everyone on our current informal list without their permission. Probably the best thing to do is send out an invite to everyone with the above instructions. There is a way to get a snippet of HTML code which can be added to any web site that makes it easy to subscribe to our mailing list. It's called a subscription box, and I imagine it's as simple as filling in one's e-mail address and pressing the subscribe button. On the eGroups site, there are also some interesting features that allow us to share photographs, have real-time chat, teleconference (no long distance charges), read archived messages, and have a shared calander of events. For right now, the list is set up as public and unmoderated. Anyone can subscribe and post messages. If we need to change it to a private group or use the moderation features, that is easy to do. eGroups is advertiser supported, so I'm not sure what to expect in our messages. If it gets annoying, they have a no-ads option for $5 a month paid yearly, or we could find a different list server. Well, let's give this a go. -- Geoff Shepherd Everett, WA BF6-31, AF-22 |

Greetings-
What a wonderful idea and opportunity for everyone involved with FELDER machinery! As a FELDER representative I look forward to assisting with anyone's concerns or suggestions relating to their machines or woodworking techniques. I urge everyone to use this forum to its full extent, but I also want to remind everyone that assistance is just a toll-free call away.... In either case FELDER USA takes pride in knowing that the "FELDER Team" consists not only of the company, but of the smart investors who have realized the importance of quality machinery. Happy Woodworking!! |
Welcome!
Geoff Shepherd
Wow! I'm curious to know how you guys subscribed before the official
invitations were sent out? In any case, welcome to the group! Official invitations just went out a few minutes ago to the thirty-four members of the old informal e-mail group, so we will soon see our regulars get signed up with the new list. Aside from this e-mail list, there is a web page at: www.egroups.com/felder-woodworking/info.htm This web site allows us to search old discussions, post new messages via a web interface (useful when using a different computer than your own), chat in real time with other members, voice teleconference without long-distance fees, keep a shared calendar of events (such as group chat nights, or whatever), share links to related web sites, post pictures of shops/projects/etc, and even conduct surveys. I'm sure we will find some of these features useful and engaging right away, but others may not have much use for us for awhile. I guess we'll see how it goes. Should FelderUSA like to add a "subscription box" for this forum to their web site, HTML code and instructions are available at the following link: -- Geoff Shepherd List Manager |
Welcome, again...

Great - glad to see more folks getting signed up!
In my last welcome message, I posted the incorrect URL for this group's home page. The correct URL is: Please visit this page to review prior postings and make use of other cool features available to this group such as pictures and chat. A good way to sign your messages to the group is something like the following: name, e-mail address, location, equipment. -- Geoff Shepherd List Manager mailto:geoff@... Everett, WA BF6-31, AF-22 |
FELDER Support for this group
Geoff Shepherd
Although this list is currently served up for us without charge, the
company providing the service is advertiser supported. This means we have "discreet" little ads at the bottom of each message. They do provide an Ad-Free option that runs $5 or $6 per month, paid anually by check. If Felder USA would like to pick up the tab on this option, that would be a nice gesture and one that I'm sure we would all appreciate. If we want to set that option up, let me know and I'll post the information of where the check should be mailed to. -- Geoff Shepherd List Manager Everett, WA |

Great pictures! Looks like nearly the same barely-adequate truck I used to pick my up BF6-31 last week! How did you smash your fence? I took the liberty to post a picture of John's shop that I've previously shared (with John's permission) on the Badger Pond woodworking forum (www.wwforum.com) .... this is a picture I took while visiting his shop last Summer, and it is what convinced me of the enourmous productivity benefits of going with three-phase power! Check it out in the vault! I'll post pictures of my MESSY MESSY shop soon! ..Geoff ----- Original Message -----

Group - it would be a good idea as we upload pictures to the vault to create
appropriate sub-folders within the Felder Owners Shops folder... I created a couple already, so we can just follow that pattern or as we see fit. I must say that this is a pretty slick system - I like it! -- Geoff Shepherd List Manager mailto:Geoff@... Everett, WA BF6-31, AF-22 |

...John's shop is WAY too clean to be doing any real work! Looks like
the Felder catalog, too, lacking only the guy with the cool moustache! Where's the scrap? Miscuts? Pinups? Band-Aids? Beer bottles? Scattered wrench set? These, my friends, are what make up a real shop, IMHO! (Yeah, I'd trade my first-borne for a setup like his! Terminally jealous!) -Philip Tamarkin (BF-5 and damn proud of it!) |
