Re: Festool Clamp Adapter K940

Those are looking good Bill! A question out of curiosity, what machine and material do you print such parts? As I can image not every 3D printer will make these parts sturdy enough.?
I don't have a 3D printer, but when I see things like this I do think about it. But this also means learning some software to make the models. What software do you use?

Thanks,

kvdd

Several threads recently mentioned the Ecogate. ?Got an email from them today. ?Seems like they have a new website with a clear organized display of the products they offer. ?The email included:

"Remember, you have a promotional offer available to you if you sign up today! ?

?As a valued user, we want to make sure you take advantage of our limited-time registration offer! This is an excellent opportunity to experience our system, or get additional/replacement products at a discounted rate. ?"

Not sure what it means to sign up, but perhaps there are discounts at this time. ?Just an FYI

Re: Phase perfect question

I was involved in a discussion over at sawmill with a guy who is having to replace his capacitors in Phase Perfect once a year.? He uses multiple 3-phase CNC machines that really stress the startup capacitors as the spindles are constantly spinning up and braking.? The capacitors in his Phase Perfect only lasted 2 years:

Otherwise, yeah, it's "mostly" semi-conductor based.

Re: Scoring blade noise

Tom - the last two videos I posted were with the saw blades completely removed (both main blade and scoring blade).? That being said, I do not have any resin/debris on any saw teeth and my main/scoring blades are in good condition.

All - I just got an email back from Felder technical support.? They listened to my videos and are saying that "everything they heard in my video sounds perfectly normal".?? I sent a follow up asking if 3-phase machines would sound different.

brandywinewindsors - Can I ask a favor?? Can you remove all your blade and push your slider forward.? Then power on the saw both WITH and WITHOUT the scoring motor engaged.? Then compare the sound to my videos and let me know if they seem the same.

anyone else who has a single phase machine - please comment if you can.

Thanks all,

Aaron Inami

Re: Phase perfect question

Hi Joshua,

In my understanding the PP is mainly semi conductor based.? As a Product Manager for Siemens I learned that the product failures follow a "bathtub curve" with relatively high product failures initially followed by a low rate and then increasing again significantly toward the end of the design life.? So in general I would be critical as to the fair pricing of an extended warranty on such a product unless it is covering you beyond? the usual 2-3 years.

The more critical question is whether you can take the risk regardless of fair pricing.? Can you afford to replace the unit without an impact to your business in a couple of years in the (unlikely based on their reputation) event of failure?? In general, you should only insure bigger risks you cannot afford to cover yourself.? Think of it as another product the manufacturer will bottom line make money on across the portfolio.? Unfortunately for you it will be one of two outcomes and you don't have the portfolio effect of large numbers.? But don't expect PP to loose money on the insurance overall.

Best,
Johannes

Re: Phase perfect question

Has anyone replaced the capacitors? I bought a 30hp phase perfect used 2 years ago and phase perfect told me to keep extra capacitors on hand in case they needed to be replaced. Does anyone else do that?

Re: Scoring blade noise

Hi Aaron,?

Just a thought, but on your scoring blade, is there any kind of accumulation of resin on some of the teeth, or are any of the teeth damaged? I've run into both situations on my machine.?

I don't use my scoring blade much, so if I'm cutting resinous material the resin can accumulate on one acute area of the scoring blade, resulting in it making more noise than when clean.?

In the other situation, I was cutting aluminum and a small block got launched by the primary blade down below the table, knocking several teeth off the scoring blade. I was surprised by how much vibration was caused by the scoring blades only missing a couple teeth.?

Anyways, might be having a quick look to make sure your scoring blades are clean, and in good condition (not damaged or missing teeth). Hope you're able to resolve your situation soon.?

That’s 20 gauge, think I did 18 and it was way heavier than necessary. As Jonathan states, a phone could cord would probably work just as well. Pictures of mine attached below.

Re: Saw controls on slider

Brian: I opted for a cable with 0.5mm2 wire. I realise that the cable only has to deal with the contactor coil current but I wanted something a little more robust than the minimum. It's a trivial thing, and seems obvious with hindsight, but I was going to put the switchbox on the end of the handhold at the end of the slider rather than on the side - clearly, the side of the slider would be better.

Imran: That's a great write-up. I use wireless to control extractors but (as a retired electronics engineer, amongst other things) I would not be comfortable using a simple wireless link for such a safety-critical task as controlling the saw, especially when it is so easy to use a curly cable which defaults to being safe if a wire breaks.?

Thanks to both.
