Felder customer service update on my K700S
Hello FOG members,
I want to thank David Best & Brain Lamb for passing on the contact info to me for the President of Felder. In hopes to get my issues resolved a bit quicker, maybe. I wasn¡¯t real confident I¡¯d hear from him, and that still holds true as of today. Not one comment from him. And this is after numerous emails now, since now he has been included on each email contact with Tech support. I received a brand new K700S back on January 3rd, and as of today it¡¯s still not 100% operational. I guess I received the ¡°lemon¡± for this batch of saws! Many on going issues with the saw. I¡¯ve been back and forth with tech support since day one. I¡¯m telling you the left hand doesn¡¯t talk to the right in this company! After many months of this so far, I just have a small pile of parts sitting in my shop to show for it. I have a total of four 1100mm crosscut fences now, all damaged in oneway or another, marred, scarred, and/or dented. They are messed up. Along with all of the accessory parts that go with each crosscut fence. I have three rip fence assembly support/guide wheels. They keep sending me a guide wheel, to fix the bouncy one I had originally received with the machine. It¡¯s the exact same wheel each time, and it¡¯s still bouncing! Someone on here mentioned they received a new replacement wheel and it worked for them. Felder claims the new wheel design is made of different material. They are sending me another one, oh boy! I have a rip fence that still will not calibrate along the support bar. I have completely removed and reinstalled this three times now. It seems to be garbage to me. I set my rip fence to 10¡± using the measure scale, make a cut, it measures 10¡±. Set it at 20¡± or 30¡± and its off. Scale issue, bar issue? I don¡¯t know. My question to you all. Do you know If there is a commissioning service out there for hire, other than Felder? Thank You, Wade |
Re: How do you store your Lamb Tool Works Parallel Fence?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere are also lightening holes in the back of the mounting head, 5/8¡± diameter. I would do the same style you did, but mount the blocks vertical and stick two 1/2¡± dowels out of the top surface to engage in the holes in the head. Then they are captive and can¡¯t get accidentally knocked off the wall. A slight lift up to clear the dowels and take them off the hanger/mount.Mine live of the machine 90% of the time and if I have to take them off, I have a rolling cart nearby that they sit on until they go back on the machine.

Re: How do you store your Lamb Tool Works Parallel Fence?
Hi PK
Storing the jigs so they were easily accessable yet positioned securely was a bit of a head scratcher. Eventually, I came up with the idea of using the recess in the back of the 'bracket' to friction fit over a lump of timber on a slight angle attached to the wall. Pics might show this better than my explanation. Cheers, David |
Re: sandpaper test
I have and I like it very much.? I still have paper from Klingspor and Abranet which I've used with Xtract.? I haven't had any swirl marks.? I haven't noticed THAT much difference between it and other mesh-type abrasives, and have used them together.? I do find it seems to last longer making changing sheets less frequent.? Re: sandpaper test
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have a few boxes of it that I¡¯ve been going through for a couple months. It does remain sharper for longer than the abranet and autonet that I¡¯m used to if you¡¯re sanding wide flat surfaces. However it begins to degrade easily if you¡¯re sanding edges or anything that isn¡¯t a wide flat surface. As soon as the edges in the wavy pattern catch on something, it causes the abrasive media to come loose.? To give you an example of what I¡¯m talking about, sounding something like a cabinet door with a 2-2.5¡± wide door frame, inevitably the paper will catch on the inside corner of the door as you pass over it.? On the plus side, it is cheaper than the mirka abranet, pricing is on par with autonet. I¡¯m still thinking of stocking it for flat surface sanding but most of their tasks will be reserved for abra/autonet. I like to use up spent discs with a round paper sanding block for hand sanding edges and other applications.? On Jun 18, 2022, at 6:48 AM, imranindiana <imranindiana@...> wrote:

Re: Which blade
#sawsetup
My local guy said drilling the arbor out to 30mm was easy, but drilling the pin holes was not. It would have been way to expensive. I just gave my 10¡± blades to my son, as he could use them on his SawStop, Forrest is probably better equipped than your typical saw sharpening shop. |
Re: Which blade

FWIW, I sent my WWII¡¯s to Forrest for sharpening and had them drill out for the braking pins. Not expensive, worked great. I expect most sharpening services will do this if you have a collection of nice blades already.

Re: #shopconstruction Air treatment recommendations

I concur with Alex's auto drain valve recommendation, as well as implementing "smart" pneumatic supply distribution. A 60 gal tank isn't a lot of reservoir capacity for a continuous air need like a WBS or CNC - the air will flow through it before condensing any moisture. Adding another reservoir tank as large as possible helps the air to cool before it hits the end use, as large as possible. The other big help is to consider the size of the plumbing system (not the ID, the air volume!!) designed to encourage supply air condensation back to the intended drain points. If the water condenses out naturally before it hits the end point, you've won over the long-term operating costs of an air dryer unit, in my opinion.? I estimate my plumbing system is over 100 gallons of reservoir in addition to the primary compressor tank - and it makes a big difference, the manual drains-of-last-resort and the end branches accumulate nearly zero condensate. The moisture filters fail-safe feeding the CNC are still in good order after 4+ years of service. On Wed, Jun 15, 2022 at 11:53 PM Alex Bowlds <aabj@...> wrote:

Kevin, looks ingenious! I¡¯m definitely giving this another look.

Re: Which blade

I have the Felder scoring blade. The width can be adjusted to fit whichever blade you are running.
Based on recommendations from this group I ordered a couple of Tenryu blades. One is a rip blade and the other is a fine cross-cut blade. I could not find a flat-top Tenryu, but a local saw shop had a 12¡± Amana with the right arbor and pin holes so I had them grind it flat. That works pretty well for narrow slots. -- John Hinman Boise ID K700S and A941 |
Re: Which blade

Ian, I would order the scoring blade from Felder and many here in this group like Tenryu blades. Their triple chip grind blade is a great around blade IW-25080D3 250mm or IW-300100D3 300mm.? |
Re: Which blade

If you didn¡¯t order a blade it doesn¡¯t come with one. I found that out when I received my Kappa 400 and the techs arrived for commissioning. You would think they¡¯d throw in a setup blade at least, nope¡ Bill Belanger? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Jay,I think the first thing needed for pretty much any compressor installation is an automatic drain valve. ?As moisture (and oil) condenses and gathers on the interior walls of the compressor tank, the liquids run down to the bottom of the tank where one will find a conveniently located drain valve. ?It is so conveniently located that many of us forget to use it until there is a significant accumulation of liquid, at which point we have already ruined a finish we are applying, or already pumped water through several tools. To help minimize the impact water and oil have on our tools and projects I installed an automatic drain valve in place of the not so convenient drain valve. ?There are a number of types and sizes available. ?Here is one I found on Amazon. ?Automatically draining the condensed moisture will reduce the need for an air dryer or desiccant moisture traps. ?I ran, it¡¯s an artifact of the mechanism of making the mouldings. ?I glued up the long stripes and the short stripes separately. I then glued up flag blanks approximately 55mm deep, then glued a moulding blank by surrounding the flag blank with blocks of mahogany and capped and bottomed that with a strip of mahogany. The result was a flat sandwich roughly 55 mm wide. ?I the ran both sides through the shaper with a 20mm bead on both faces of the blanks so one face resulted in the field on the right and the other face had the field on the left. ?I the ripped a quarter round from each side of the blank by tilting my bandsaw table to 45 degrees, freeing the first cut, reversing the cut, and finish with a quarter round.
