Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
开云体育Bill, I saved this info that was posted here. Not sure which Mark is it, maybe we will find out. Also look up noble artisan on utube where a FOG member has done this as well. Imran Start of saved msg on DRO: Fyi, here is something I posted back in march on the fiama and the siko I just got an email from the siko guy and its about $500 with 3m of tape Thanks for this, I emailed him and here is the quote for the Fiama if anyone is interested, very reasonable. ? F8P-E-0.5-GR? This part number describes the following specification:? ? battery powered electronic display (black) panel mount ? 0.5 meter cabled sensor (attached)? Price: $272.91/ea.?? ? P50/10-100? This part number describes the following specification:? ? Magnetic band ? 100cm (1 meter) long ? Stainless steel cover strip included? Price: $84.45/ea.?? ? I also got a quote on the SIko ouch, but he told me they would be almost half off during the IWF show and AWFS ? I am quite partial to the fractions which the Fiama does not provide, I am not quite as obsessed as others when it comes to precision with woodworking anything more than 0.15 in general is good enough when measuring as long as its repeatable ? MA503/2-0001 - $579.40/ea MA504/1-0001 - $326.70/ea (alternate to above has display for fractions) MS500H-0001? - 307.70/ea MB500/1-0019 - 325.20 for 3m of scale ? ?Thanks for all the feedbacks, Yes, I am completely new to those DRO stuff, so I am ok with all the information I can get. I believe I got the Wixey and pro scale solution type: you need an additional guide/fence on which a reader slide or glide on to know its position. This type of solution, as Mark mentioned has the issue of obstructing the path of the rip fence housing/block rotation. I do it often as my rip fence is against a wall and I need to remove/rotate the block to cut at fill width over the table or right of the blade. So, I am interested in the other type of solution, fiama type, if I got it correct. However, I have no idea what I should look at on the fiama web site. Any hints will be appreciated. Thanks, Bill |
Hammer/CF-531 Zero Clearance Insert
Just finished installing a zero clearance insert from ramonvaldezfinefurniture.com. ?It’s a significant improvement over the factory insert. ?As you can see it adds a significant amount of support to the left side of the blade. ?I will be purchasing another insert for my dado set as the current Felder insert has about a 1/16” to the left of the blade.

Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
开云体育Yes the wixey and accurate tech use an encoder strip that have a printed circuit on them where as the Fiama and the like use a mag strip, I believe the mag strip provides better resolution and real time changes and is also a little better with dirt/contamination not bothering it, either type is good enough for woodworking in my opinion.?I am no expert on any of this and I bet Brian L and or David B have some pretty good opinions, for me I want it clean and unclunky (and to work ?) so the mag strip type is the way to go Regards, Mark On Jun 16, 2020, at 8:16 AM, imranindiana via groups.io <imranindiana@...> wrote:

开云体育Thanks Bill. I have digital angle cube thingy from Wixey for cannot recall how many yrs and have not changed batteries. Remember reading about batt drain on some similar DRO maybe it was accurate but likely model have improved over the yrs. Imran On Jun 15, 2020, at 11:20 PM, Bill Bélanger <Bllblngr@...> wrote:

Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
开云体育Thanks Mark. I was fairly sure that is what you meant. Wixey has a msg strip but it is attached to a bar that reader goes upon. I assume the reader they are using is not as sophisticated as the higher priced units, so has to be sold as a pre assembled mag strip/reader unit. Just a guess. ?Imran,? Now I am confused, partially because I can’t construct a proper sentence, have proper grammar or know how to spell but let me guess that this is what you are saying and is what I meant, with the mag strip dro (like fiama) there is no encoder rail like the wixy and accurate tech unit so nothing is connected and you can flip the rip fence at will Regards, Mark On Jun 15, 2020, at 11:06 PM, imranindiana via groups.io <imranindiana@...> wrote:

Mark,
“Also if you do do a non mag strip unit like the wixy“ By this you mean that it does not work with a mag strip that one could install in OEM fence, correct? Because, it does work with a mag strip. Just curious, wanted to make sure I sm not missing something. I remember reading issues with battery draining often. Not sure if that was wixey or accurate? Imran |

开云体育Yea guys, I am totally sold. I wouldn't have been in the past, ironically now that I am no longer doing it for my main source of income I need my limited time in the shop efficient, I found that the power drive on the J/P has been great and a time saver. ?In the non skiing months I normally get in maybe 10-15 hrs a month but because of Covid I am working at home and getting in like 25-35 hrs a week, point is have spent a lot more time on the saw finding myself chasing cuts, guessing ect....? Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
开云体育I had an accurate technology scale for almost 20 years always worked, used it on slider xcut and rip and at one point on a cabinet saw. I have had to flip the rip several times due to extra long xcut with solids. I didn’t even bother to watch the videos or check the links but i know what they are doing, there is nothing new or novel about attaching a dro to a rip fence, regardless of how easy it is to remove to flip and even if I didn’t ever want to flip the rip its to clunky for me to save $200-$250 for a less elegant solution like a mag strip dro but thats meRegards, Mark On Jun 15, 2020, at 8:53 PM, chrjparks@... wrote:

Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
I used a length of rip fence that is 200mm long and it sits on the rip fence head with no need to rotate it out of the way and if I want to rip I fit a full length fence to do that. It is a very rare day that I need a full length fence and because it does not over hang it never gets in the way and I don't have to walk around the damn thing.?

Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
The saw owner in that link copied my set up and I found it searching the internet some years ago. The Wixey works well and as a magnet is the only attachment to the rip fence head absolute precision in fitting is not necessary because the attachment is self adjusting but that will not change the relative relationship of fence to reading head. One reason it really shines is if you have a fine adjustment on the rip fence, get it close and wind the head to obtain the desired measurment, no bumping etc to get that last little bit.?
The Wixey is a fairly dumb DRO in that it can only be calibrated at Zero unlike its most common competitor Proscale which can be calibrated to a random cut length. Here is a link to a proscale fitted to a normal cabinet saw ?and while I have never used one it looks to be a better thing than the Wixey as it seems to be more flexibe in calibration and more robust in use though I doubt if it is more accurate unless the resolution is better. A link to fitting a Wixey? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUaBOSx4--o&t=499s I would not be without a DRO of whatever brand on the rip fence because I am constantly using as a measuring bump stop and it is a rare day it gets used to rip anything and it is repeatable within the resolution of the instrument which on the Wixey is about 5 thousandths of an inch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUaBOSx4--o&t=499s |
Re: Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
开云体育Probably precise enough, I have heard good things about them but I think they are cheap and wouldn’t buy another, as I have also used higher quality ones. I would just spend the $350 or so for the fiama unit.?Also if you do do a non mag strip unit like the wixy on the rip you won’t be able to flip the fence 180deg out of the way without creating some sort of bracket to disconnect the reader, probably takes seconds but imho a pain... Wixey digital fence on K500 rip fence - feedback
I saw on another forum someone who put a wixey digital fence for the rip fence on a K3.
I am wondering whether someone has already done so or someone can shim in about how precise and repeatable it can be. For $120 box, that looks dirt cheap for precision. I am sure anyone can put that on a K500, but I wonder whether a small move in this additional fence or just the fact that this fence will not be 100% parallel with the main fence can have an impact on the precision. Like you setup everything do a cut test at 4", perfect every-time, but when you move for a cut at 8" you are no more at 8" because your additional fence is not parallel to the main fence. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, Bill |
