Re: New options to upgrade a Felder Straight cutter head

Yes possibly Brian,
I would still do it again if i was in the same position, maybe just with this new head that's available! :) The benefits are great. Of course if you can afford a new machine, that not only gets you the new head, but any other impovements the new machine might have over the old one.
Actually if there's one negative i have on the Silent power head in my new machine, it's that it's almost too quiet and i really have to look to check that i've turned it off sometimes!?

Re: Christmas in November

Thanks fellows. I appreciate the information.
?
I may try to get the slider installed and the saw leveled before the tech arrives, and I¡¯ll have the 4¡± hose ready to hook up to the overhead guard. I¡¯ll leave the guard off for now. It is very heavy and awkward.
?
PK, the saw has 3200 mm slider, 48¡± rip capacity, digital stop on the 1900-mm outrigger fence, and digital angle readout, and switch on sliding table. 7.5 HP motor. Has the PCS system. Standard features include dado capability, automatic scoring, automatic rip fence, and probably more that I do not recall right off hand. It will probably take a long time to learn how to use all of the features.

Re: Christmas in November

I commission my K700s back in April, I partially started the assembly to be more familiar with the saw, It ?still took us 6-7 hours to complete the commission . I don¡¯t see a scenario where you start at 4PM and finish commission the saw at a reasonable time

Re: Christmas in November

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

You won¡¯t be able to fully connect the machine to a dust collector without installing the overhead saw guard system, which is big and heavy. ?This is not a single person job unless you have some type of overhead lifting device and even then it¡¯s a dangerous operation for a single person. ?Same goes for the heads up display mast.?

When my Kappa was delivered, I waited to install both those items until the tech was here for commissioning. ?The two of us managed to get them installed, but there was a lot of fussing around trying to get bolt holes to align, etc. ? It was a struggle with just the two of us. ?Similarly the extension tables on two sides are also heavy and a real PITA to install and required at least two hours of the tech time to get them on the machine and properly aligned to the cast-iron top. ?Commissioning a Kappa 450 is at least an eight hour day project for the tech. ?

I recommend you call Felder service and ask them to clarify. Asking the user to do all this assembly prior to commissioning is an unreasonable expectation in my opinion. ?

You should only need to verify the voltage at the supply to the machine with a voltmeter and tell Felder those numbers over the phone prior to scheduling commissioning. ?

congratulations on your new saw.

what Felder expects you to do is to remove it from the pallet, connect it to dust collector and measure the voltage in the outlet near the saw.
?
You don¡¯t need to send any pictures, just provide the voltage measurement (L1-L2,L1-L3,L2-L3,L1-G, L2-G and L3-G)

Re: New options to upgrade a Felder Straight cutter head

Bryce,

I'm not sure if it was you commenting when you had upgraded your cutterhead, but the revelation that it seemed to lack the power that it had with straight knives combined with the intimidation I felt with the entire idea of disassembling?my BF631 scared me off. I chose a new machine (F700S) instead and an SCM FS41ES instead of the comparable 16" Felder.
In any event...this guy seems to have found a solution if you don't mind taking it apart. If anyone wants a BF631...I have mine for sale!

Christmas in November

Just got a new saw today! Ordered in March, so it has been a long wait.
?
Unfortunately Felder shipped someone else¡¯s slider with it. The first thing the rigger brought in was that incorrect slider, and as soon as he had it in the shop Felder called to ask for the serial number and tell me it was the wrong one. Ah, well. Felder is taking care of it.
?
I am a bit confused about assembly and commissioning. Perhaps someone here can give me some advice.
?
How much assembly am I supposed to do before the tech arrives? I am supposed to send a photo showing power connected and dust collection connected, which requires some assembly. I cannot verify that the power is connected correctly until the slider and the control display is hooked up. However, the user manual says only authorized Felder techs can do assembly and the manual does not provide much assembly information.
?
The tech is supposed to arrive between 3 and 4 PM the day of the commissioning, which does not leave much time for assembly. That suggests I ought to have the basic assembly done.
?
What has other people¡¯s experience been?

Re: FB510 bandsaw tire

How do you know that Rod?
i.e have you stretched out the tire to find out, like so...?
?
Or measured them?....
As the profile disappears when the rubber is bent around a circumference
I didn't find this out for years, even though I had this spare Centauro CO tire at hand.
A
?
Anticlastic curvature they call it
?
I was unaware of this, and thought there were saws which came with flat tires,
and not just what one might simply call "flatter"
So I spent years on what one might call a study, after going through a box of blades, of various types and brands,
and didn't stop until everything else was completely ruled out.
That being accurate wheel alignment, made videos of the attempts, and eventually finished up with the only sure way on the internet, as far as I've seen, due to my findings on wheel edge/lip/face tolerance of the bandwheels,?
?
The alignment technique I might add was instrumental regarding curing that flat tire fever I had...
and I didn't choose to change that until after.
I've also still three flat tire dressing videos on some of my threads, which pretty much mythbusts the idea,
and also more videos which demonstrates the after effects of such.
Those being, compressed set on the blades, even with teeth overhanging on the wheels edge, what happened to my oldest blades, and severely reduced beam strength from the blade,
leading to much rubbing on the thrust guide(s) burning, spelching of the cut, and bogging down of the saw near immediately.
?
Completely unusable, so you'll have to excuse my cynical viewpoint on such.
These Felder or indeed Hammer saws, you can bet that I've looked at those tires plenty,
and is amongst the proof I had in my imagination ....
?
?
Unless they actually are so, and no-one is actually using regular blades on their Hammer or Felder saws,
of which being in at least the 4HP or more range motors.
Should this be the case that they have no profile, then that would mean that there still is a profile
to the "rubber band" of whatever polyurethane flavour, when drawn around a circumference.
?
Either way there is a profile, regardless of whether it's obvious or not, and it's very important.
Might explain why Felder changed them over.
Seen Manor Wood's videos on his older 510, and the new one on GT workshop channel, both saws struggling.
?
It would be interesting to see one with the alignment proven, to see if the profile from anticlastic curvature provides sufficient enough beam strength of the blade with such a machine.
Not that it matters much, as I've attained my answer with the help of my old blades with the compressed set,
that made things very obvious, and thanks to folks like John TenEyck for his posts which gave me the courage to profile my
vulcanized rubber.
?
All the best
Tom

Tom, the FB510 tires are rectangular in profile, they aren¡¯t meant to have camber.

Re: Felder 3 Phase Setup: Hardwired? Or Plug Into Outlet?

Understood.
?
I'm having the same challenge - it doesn't look like there's an 80A GFCI breaker.
?

Re: Felder 3 Phase Setup: Hardwired? Or Plug Into Outlet?

in hindsight I should probably use a larger breaker, but I am only using a 60A breaker.
When I installed the breaker, I only had a single 3P machine that use 5.5kW so I thought I have plenty of headroom.
?
The PTE010 can consume up to 62A, since I don't intent to run a continuous load, AFAIK, I don't have to accommodate the 125% load to bump the breaker to 77.5A (so up to 80A).
I think this is the breaker I used:

First, I miss your posts Sang Luu, hope all is well with you. I may be wrong but IIRC, Sang Luu started #rfp thread. So here it goes.

The best part of woodworking, for me, is to be able to use couple of sticks in the best possible way. I like how this one turned out. Walnut finished with Rubio. (sorry pic is just on my bench with shop lights so not the best)

People with good eyes may notice that the stiles are protruding on both ends. For installation, the panel goes up in a cavity and then drops in the pockets in a shelf. Longer stiles up top keeps it from falling out.

Re: Fitting a mobile base to a Hammer A3-31

Hi Aaron
?
The weight of the A3-31 is enough to prevent any movement when work is passed over or through the machine. As a result, I leave it resting on the wheels.?
?
The original lever/lift actually is easier to move the machine fore-and-aft, but the wheels facilitate side-to-side movement, and they stay for this reason.

Bandsaw blade lateral wobble

Hi
?
Due to my past inexperience on usage and tuning of a bandsaw, I think all my blades have developed a lateral wobble in them (measure at proper blade tension without the guides engaging as close as possible to the gullet).? Gemine recommends 50 ?m (2 thou) and chatGPT 800 ?m (1/32"). Obviously chatGPT doesn't care about quality cuts :D. Since neither are able to provide sources for this recommendations and googling didn't quickly resolve my question either I was wondering if any of you have a guideline or sources discussing what an acceptable lateral wobble is?

Kind regards
