byrd shelix on AD 741

Hello Felder users....
I have an older, about 14 years old, AD 741.? It has the straight blades and the powerdrive and is currently working fine. I am considering getting a Byrd-Shelix spiral cutter head for it. I would like to speak with anyone who has done this conversion. IF you have done this, would you PLEASE contact me? I can be reached by phone or text at 707-591-6840 Thanks much |
Re: Digi compensation for droll outrigger
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýReally? I haven¡¯t heard about that the 1/100 degree. Maybe my iPhone¡¯s Siri was on and Felder tapped in and heard me bit#4ing about the 1/10 degree capability not being good enough?! LOL Lucky

Re: Finger Pulls on Drawer fronts
I am not totally sure I understand the question.? Without letting that stop me, I can say I recently got decent results by shaping shortgrain strips into curved pulls with a tenon for attachment to the cabinet. Photos attached.?? I made blanks in pairs, routed the tenons with a straight bit on the router table, routed the concave curve with a large bull nose bit (two overlapping passes) and shaped the convex curve with spoke shave, plane, rasp and sand paper.? Deciding when to make which router pass and when to separate the halves is important. |

Twisting a big issue, but my understanding is that is more species specific but hard and I'll take his word splintery.? There have been attempts at making flooring with it (maybe in CA where I live) under trade names like Blue something with no hint it's actually eucalyptus.? Fast growing and drops stuff (essentially poisonous to other plants) around tree so nothing else grows and devastating in fires as the oils ignite into nice hot fire. ? Jay in San Jose ? Re: Finger Pulls on Drawer fronts
?????? A new bit and thin cuts are good. I like the tape idea. It's going to burn when you slow down to go around the corner to the endgrain. Keep it moving. Sandpaper will take out light burns. Conversion varnish will outlast oil when it comes to kitchens and baths. How do I know?? Now that's a long story....

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCarbide and listening to the whine of the motor to adjust speed will do it. Throw a couple pieces of tape on your jig/template then remove for the final pass so that it is a very thin cut.?Taylor Donsker www.tdonsker.com 818.424.9046 On May 10, 2021, at 8:26 AM, Brian Lamb <blamb11@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am not familiar with Ecalypt.? When I have a cut like that in wood that burns easily I do two things.

Finger Pulls on Drawer fronts
Gidday
Have a client from hell, fussy, AKA my daughter and partner The want solid timber vanities 2x, made from recycled eucalypt ( hard and spllntery) It will be oiled, I would like to keep burning to a minimum. The long section of the cut is in side grain, the returns in endgrain Either hand router or Router insert in Felder KF Seems to be only two bits- Ogee or a Finger Pull bit like the CMT one Any comments on how to approach it? Or should I find another daughter? |

Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
On the power lift, I do not think I will care about fine adjustment. ?As I see it, I will raise or lower the head when needed to accommodate a different thickness of wood with a different bit or the same wood with a different bit. ?I am just looking for ballpark to make sure I can get the bit in and then lower the bit when drilling as needed before running out of quill travel. ?Once I change the bit, I have to adjust the depth stop and that is where the fine adjustment happens. ?
Maybe I am missing something, and not too late for refinements in the modifications. ? |
Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Joel looking good after your long journey,?Can you turn your lift crank by hand for fine adjustment.? Do you have limit stops?? AB joy stick works great for control. Looks like he does nice work. I am in envy of that power rise and fall, I will think about it every time I crank mine. Mark Foster On May 8, 2021, at 9:46 AM, joelgelman via groups.io <joelgelman@...> wrote: |
Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
The Radial Drill Press is coming along nicely. ?I thought some of you would find it interesting to see pictures showing the power lift attached. The upgrades are being done by James at Iron Age Enterprises, and he recently sent a few pictures
Still a bit more work to do on the speed adjustment knob. ?One thing I am still thinking about is the depth stop. ?The Powermatic had a push button nut, which is a lot faster than turning the nut to adjust the quill travel. ?I guess there is always the option of a DRO depth gauge also. Based on the above comment along with my own experience, I will pay attention to a nice clamping setup which could include an accessory table with slots for the Automaxx clamps and perhaps the smaller Mac clamps. |
