Re: AIGNER FLUSHFIX

Resurrecting this thread, for trimming thicker, solid wood edge banding I completely forgot to mention the Betterly flush trim router setup:??

This setup will trim up to 1-1/2" wide edge lipping in a single pass.?

Betterly is based in Minnesota, ~20 minutes North of Minneapolis. They specialize in making custom router bases, primarily catering to the various counter top trades (laminate, solid surface). They perform all of their milling/machining in-house.?

I don't know how different they would be; here's a video for making an insert for a Hammer?

I'll be making one once my B3 is delivered.

Just the rip fence which you can tilt backwards and get off the table, and the mounting post for the overhead saw guard.

Where are you located?

A place has been recommended here in St. Louis. Leitz is in Ground Rapids, MI. I am sure Leitz have other locations. I am sure there are west coast options which I have not paid attention to.

I didn’t know carriage bolts were in the vocabulary of Austrians. :-)

The overhead guard of a circa 2019 KF 700 SP rests on a carriage bolt when it is in its default position (i.e. not swung away toward the in-feed side of the saw). Flipping this up-side-down might run into sagging issue, assuming it is possible. The schematic drawings might help you decide.

When I looked at upgrading from my K975, I explored the overhead guard swing-away capabilities of the Kappa 400 as well as the K700. ?This was in 2015, so things could have changed on the 700-series. ? But at that time, the 700-series machines had a swing-away capability that rotated at the support column, bringing the saw guard toward the In-feed side of the machine. ?The Kappa 400 with its overhead display unit blocking that swing direction has the saw guard swing toward the outfeed side of the machine. ?Of course the locking/release latch is on the mounting post (across the room), but I solved that by adding a release cable brought over to the saw guard housing. ?I use it all the time to get the guard out of the way. ? ?

I don't have a machine yet, but am planning my purchase for a KF 700. My thinking is that if the pivot point were in the same place that Felder has it now, it would swing out of the way counterclockwise. Learning that it is impractical (and inadvantageous) to remove the guard for such cuts, I started thinking of ceiling mount options. Looking around for examples, or products, I didn't find much that looked suitable. So, I remembered this thread in which you said you had modified the Felder Guard to suit your needs. Here is my question:

Do you think it would be feasible and make sense to mount the felder overarm guard from the ceiling from the same post (added on to, of course) that normally attaches to the right side of the table? Instead of attaching to the machine at this position, the attachment square tube would be flipped and go up toward the ceiling attachment.

Also to clarify, I have the 49” rip capacity. My guard support actually has multiple holes that are unused but seem that it could be mounted further out by about 6-9” based on the hole locations but not in (like for the 31”) without some simple modifications. Either Felder sent me the wrong guard mount (doubtful... doesn’t matter, happy with the 49”), it’s meant for two different saws and not for 49” or 31” or who knows...

Glen is correct. I had the same setup on my K975 and my KF700. ?Some machines come standard with the ability to mount the support arm at the 31-inch or 49-inch clearance position irrespective of the rip fence capacity. ?Other machines, like my Kappa 400 xMotion, have to be ordered with 31” rip and 49” overhead guard position if that’s what you want. ?It all depends on how the support bracket is designed and how it attaches to the machine, which is machine specific.?

Hi Jim. I made a few at one time for the Hammer and 500 Series. But there wasn't that much demand at the time to make it worthwhile.? I'm just making them for the 700 series.?
But with an investment in your time you can make your own. The key is to leave enough material on the slider side to prevent that thinner side from breaking.?
Take care
John.?
