Re: Agilis v. Pirelli Scorpion

Bruce Curry

I have not checked them out enough to know for sure but I believe they do.

Bruce:
Sounds interesting. BUT do they have reinforced sidewalls???
The Goodyear Cargo Vectors and Michelin Agilis have reinforced sidewalls
and
with vehicles like Eurovans, Eurovan Campers and even Vanagons, you need
the
reinforced sidewalls to help control the top heavy tendency of these
vehicles.

Agilis v. Pirelli Scorpion

Bruce Curry

Sorry to encourage more discussion on the dreaded tire thread but I just had
occasion to try on a friend's set of Pirelli Scorpions (205/75/15) which in
theory are quite a bit taller than the vaunted Agilis. His are on a 91
westy synchro. They fit my 93 ev w/out a problem on both front and back
w/out rubbing the body during turns.

These tires recently rated top of the class in several recent consumer tests
for both quietness of ride as well as handling in the wet. They have 8
belts, are rated for 40 or 50k miles, and I believe are rated for the weight
of most EV configurations. They have both an aggressive "truck" as well as
more sedate "passenger" tread pattern option. As I recall they are a
relative bargain at $69 at discount tire.

For those looking to raise their van, decrease their rpms or get more
mileage might want to check them out.

Yes most definately. Side by side inflated comparison I've done (re new
tire
spares w/= pressures plus on vehicle comparisons). A significant eyeball
difference without using any math. One would have to question the
rationality of putting a smaller tire on already a marginally tired
vehicle?
Speedo readings are already inaccurate as to reading fast (would read even
more inaccurate or faster with shorter tires), EV's have low-torque
engines
(why increase RPM's at highway speeds which would equate to less MPG?),
increase noise due to engine buzz at speed (increased rpm), plus lowering
the
ever present limited ground clearance. Figure? My experience? Been
there
done that with other vehicles. Will pass on any degree of downsizing
vehicle
tires ... even if they were free. Unless living in mountainous terrain
or
towing something behind your EVC where shorter tires equate to higher gear
ratio, look for the larger diameter size tire. The 215/65R15C Agilis may
prove to be the answer if they can be found. I will run my Goodyear G64's
until I find an equally large or larger tire (re the Agilis 215/65R15C) to
replace them with. No complaints whatsoever with the G64's other than a
bit
noisy due to the aggressive tread pattern. Good hunting.... we are off in
our EVC to Alamos, Sonora Mexico for the Music festival .... =).

Re: Agilis v. Pirelli Scorpion

Bruce,
My 2 cents.
I find the difference in RPM between the Agilis tires I now have (205/65/15)
and the original Goodyear G64's (195/70/15 , load rating 1389 lbs @ 44psi) on
my '93 EV is insignificant. I had also calculated this once before and
concluded that the difference was within variations you would see from tire
wear. Also keep in mind that both of these tire sizes were delivered from
the factory on the '93 models. I would highly recommend staying with the
Agilis tires unless you are sure that any alternative Pirelli is properly
rated for the EV. The reduction in road noise with the Agilis tires versus
my original Goodyear tires is truly amazing.

Need a propane tank cover

Larry Schellhase

We has a great rain-shortened week-end in Death
Valley, we found one of the greatest campsites ever
and met a brand new EVC owner from the Bay Area.

The only bad part was that while driving through Titus
Canyon, I scraped the bottom of the propane tank and
the cover came off. By the time I stopped, it was
under the rear tire. It is no longer usable.

I know they are expensive, but I wondered what is the
best way to get a new propane tank cover. My FLVWD
(Santa Monica VW) has never come through with a part I
ordered for my EVC. I have several parts on order from
them since June 99, and none have yet arrived.

If anyone has successfully ordered and received a new
propane tank cover, please let me know the source.

If the Winnebago Lady is reading this, please help.

Thanks for any assistance.

I'm still looking for pictures of your Splitties, Loaf, Vanagons, and
Eurovans for inclusion in model specific screen savers like the Vanagon one
I have on my site.

I've got lots of great Vanagon pictures but am really short of the others.
I may end up doing a Splittie/Loaf and Vanagon/Eurovan saver if I don't get
more pictures. I'm also going to create one huge everything saver for those
who want it all.

So send them in!!!

Re: Lifting an EVC?

I have air springs inthe back of my Rialta. Its rear suspension is
completely different then an EV, its a beam axel. But it does work to
raise the rear end quite a bit. The idea is to correct for extra wt.
You might be able to rig up the same sort of thing in the rear, but the
front is much tighter.

On the other hand if you do not want to have "instant" height
adjustment you can simply crank in some lift on the fron torsion bars.
A alinment will be necessary. Not sure what you can do for the rear.
Different springs?

Re: Lifting EVC

I have only seen one Syncro EV(it is still for sale by the way)and it
has the same ride height as my EVGL. I just took a quick glance at the
suspension and it looks the same as the 2wd model, with the exception
of some more driveshafts going aft. This was a Swiss van that was
imported a few years ago, 8 pass. Don't know if the newer campers are
lifted or not.

Re: 2000 EVC

Steve and Pat Mecham

Mary,

Sorry for the delay in reply! We were away from email a few days.

By the way, we see late-model EVCs several times a week in our area. There
probably are at least 6 around here. We spotted the first one about last
August in a Walmart parking lot. That's what started us thinking about them.

We are not thoroughly familiar with the `99 but these are the items we think
are new:
* keyless entry
* two alarms - propane, smoke
* mirror on the closet (was gone in `99)
* reading lights over the back bed
* more cup holders

Other than the keyless entry, there are no changes in the EV itself. If a
dealer still has a `99 then it seems a better deal to pay the `99 price and
add the other items yourself.

If you are looking to buy a new EVC, we recommend to not wait long -
especially if you want to try to pay below sticker. We contacted 7 dealers
within a 250 mile radius of us in Northern Colorado and found none in stock.
(The 2000 we test-drove was sold the next time we went back). The dealers
had a total of about 35 on order, about 30 still available with delivery
ranging from a few weeks to "4 to 6 months." All of the dealers claim the
ones on order will be sold in March and April as the summer vacationers make
their purchases. I wouldn't be surprised. 3 of the dealers wouldn't budge
from sticker. Another offered a $1000 discount. The two fartherest away made
the best offers, with the low being $800 over invoice - but he has to place
a new order and we would have to wait for whenever it comes and risk missing
the summer. Finally the local dealer moved a little more in response to the
other offers. It pays to do some research!

Happy shopping!

Re: EVC - sink/stove "lid"

Michael,
What you are looking for is called a gas spring. I got replacements for
mine at MobilityRV which specializes in parts for Winnebago RVs. Check
www.mobilityrv.com for a phone number. Service from them was prompt and
efficient.

store or are they a stock Winnebago part?

Re: Plastic Water Tank smell thoughts

Bruce Bauer

It is difficult to source and deliver potable water to the internal
14 gl.storage tank so I think it will be used more for washing etc.
The Melbourne city water is fine to start of a trip with although
probably chlorinated and certainly fluoridated, Once on the road you
have to keep an eye out for public access to taps as well as O'night
camp areas.
If you are ever in the Phoenix area there is an outfit called Water and Ice that sells Reverse Osmosis
water for 20 to 25 cents per gallon. I can't say this for sure about all of them, but the one I use is
equiped with a long hose to fill RV water tanks

Eckhard, I have had that happen to me and it seems that if the lock feels
any resistance it reverses and locks again. I sprayed wd40 on all locks and
everything that moved and then it worked ok again.
Thanks for all the info on the power locks and the console options. I will
check out the locks tomorrow.
I do appreciate all your help

Re: Lifting an EVC?

Has anyone looked into adding the synchro suspension IE shocks and springs
to the 2wheel Eurovan. I am not sire but I believe that the synchro is
lifted and with the same basis of suspension mounting?? (Have not really
seen one anyone??) It should raise the vehicle to a higher heighth. I looked
at Trekka's page a while ago and noticed they did have the parts for th
synchro perhaps a suspension upgrade. This may be a route to check into..

It

I think they just assist the rear shocks and without longer shocks and
springs, you won't get any real lift. If you have rear sag, these should
help. If you pump them up for lift, you may get a very stiff ride.

Re: clearance and blower resistors

Steve - have you or anyone else just thought about changing the tires to 70
or even 75 profile - this would gain gas mileage and ground clearance. Plus I
believe these are more common truck tires than the 65 series anyway

Also - do you know what the values of the heater blower resistors are in ohms
and wattage. My thinking is that if the fuse does not blow ( and mine did
not) the wattage value of these must be way too small. My fan does not
squeal or make any noise but like many of us I have a high speed fan only. I
would like to build my own resistor pack and one that will not burn out

Headlight Covers

Has anyone found headlight covers for the EV, that don't break the
bank?. The VW dealer wants $90CDN for a set.
