If you have a licensed Bentley CD you can get free access to their internet version. ?They make it very easy.

Update on my 2003 EuroVan MV alignment: ? I decided to go with the local shop in my town so I could stay in close communication with the tech and keep the costs in check. ?They inspected the tie rods and agree with the VW dealer assessment that the inner tie rods need replacement. ?They also agree though with me that better to do the inner and outer on both sides given the 150K mileage. ?Upon inspection they saw some fluid was leaking fluid at the input shaft ?of the rack which would explain the low level I have seen but was somehow ignoring. I don't think a bad leak but decided to have them replace the rack at the same time as the tie rods. ?They completed that last week and adjusted the toe in/out back to spec. ?They also saw that the camber is off as I had know from the two previous VW dealer diagnostics. ?I asked them to first check and set the ride height before starting to make adjustments in the camber as suggested e arlier in this thread. ?The problem the shop ran into ( and I am having as well) is identifying the group number to use for specs. ?I read some of the posts here and saw one from Bob W that this number is the last of the third line of digits in the sticker on the plastic box cover. ?My sticker has "8L1" at the end of the third string.?? I have a Bentley Manual CD for this vehicle but unfortunately it doesn't open on my Macs and my work computer that has Windows 7. Thinking to go to Staples and see if they can read it and print out a copy. ?In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me confirm that this "8L1" ?makes sense as the group number for a 2003 MV non-weekender and might have access to the ride height and ?alignment settings for this group number so I can double check what the alignment shop is using. ?

I posted a picture of my sticker on the fuse box cover in the PHOTOS section for reference?
Thanks,

Re: Rooftop Strut Replacement

Not an easy task. Tried that ratchet maneuver but kept slipping free. In the end, had a real strong son grasp it and compress it manually so I could get the lower attachment secured.

Weekender Weather Stripping

Hey All,

I just purchased a 2002 Weekender with the pop top. ?The weather stripping that's attached to the top is getting brittle. ?The actual part of the rubber that touches the van when the top is down is ok, but the part is securing it to the pop up top is hard and is starting to come off. ?I found some weather stripping by the foot from Bus Depot. ?Has anyone had any experience replacing the weather stripping? ?I can't imagine it's that complicated.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 2003 EuroVan MV alignment advice needed

Ok, thanks! Group 5 then. On issue though is that is not even on the list of choices they had so need to recheck with the shop. This seems much more confusing than it should be.
Thanks again!

I bought one 2 yrs ago but have been stopped by not knowing which one is bad
It's not that hard to lift it past the first 8" but my wife can't do it, so
I think only one failed.

Which one?

The noisy one?

Re: FLASH! VW introduces a new Campervan, the California

As I understand it, the imported vehicle has to meet US specs, which means a similar vehicle must have been EPA-certified and NHTSA-crash tested.

Not likely to happen.

Re: Norcold woes

Also make sure that the thermocouple sits over the flame in the burner box. ?Mine had moved out about 1/4", which led to a green light on while pressing the start button, but the light went out when the starter was released. ?I pushed the thermocouple back into place and the fridge has been fine.

Re: 2003 EuroVan MV alignment advice needed

Your van is Group 5.

The K5 stands for Kastenwagen, Group 5.

Re: Norcold woes

If the light is green- that means you do have a flame. When you put it in propane mode- the relighter module sends a spark to ignite the propane in the burner. So- I think you have the common problem of a "bad" relay in the relighter module. I have developed a fix for this which I have been supplying to members of the group.

Contact me directly ( sletz@msn .com) and lets see if I can help.

Thanks

Hi Jim,
I have a 2003 EuroVan MV non-weekender ( built June 2002) . ?I am trying to get the ride height spec set then the alignment checked and adjusted( toe, camber, caster). ?I have a shop all lined up to do the work. Their readout shows the multiple selections below and trying to figure out which to use. Any clues would be greatly ?appreciated.

I have now replaced two expensive relays in my AC system, # 140 and the evaporator temp control switch, but no joy. ? Have had two separate AC techs evaluate and each pointed to a different relay as not being functional, still no cool with both replaced. ? I am traveling now and heading for Calgary AB where I will be for a few days. ?I know there is at least one list member from Calgary and wonder if there might be a recommendation of a VW mechanic who might be helpful in sorting out the problems with my AC. ? From there I will be heading to Kelowna BC where it will definitely be hot, and it would be nice to have working AC.

Hi Ted,

I'm not sure about the AC - could be the hi/lo pressure switch. That was one of the bad components on my system. Do you hear the AC relay clicking on and off??

About the second problem, my van was doing the exact same thing after turning the ignition off, especially when the van was hot. It ended up being relay #18 to the left of the steering column. It was able to test it by pulling relay #18 out when the fans kept running and it solved the problem. I ordered a new relay online and the problem went away.?

For some reason I have had a number of failed relays in my EVC. That seems strange.

Re: Disposal of 93 Weekender

I am interested in locking this deal now, maybe give you some hand money before you travel, and come to you on the date you want to me to get the van and pay the rest.

All,

Thanks for the advice. As it turns out, due to travel and other factors I won't really have the time to sell or otherwise rid myself of the van until late July. Decisions will be made then and into August.?

In case you are interested in seeing the overall condition, I did upload some current pics of it to Flickr: ?.

02 EVC Sliding door problem

My sliding door competes with the fridge for horror experiences. After all the circus through the winters (mild winters in the NW that is...) now more trouble: Could not open it from inside... (And no, I DO know about the child safety lever...) Off with the cover, and awed by this clockwork of a lock mechanism! What in the world are all these intricate functions for...I wonder. And still, I found the problem. The little 'catch' at the bottom, hugging the plastic thingy holding that 'stag' that goes to the rear... keeps the door from being openable from inside, and hard to impossible from the outside. The catch is moving ever so slightly when the outside handle gets pulled. From the inside...nothing. So something is broken here, inside that clockwork? However, bed to the side... everything seems to work just fine. So, has anybody an idea what that 'catch' is supposed to 'secure'? I'll get a new lock in the T4 homeland this summer. Still, I'd like to know...

just a quick note (not seeing a Pic), if sealant or weatherstripping was missing, you would feel (hear?) a draft.? Happy Trails!!

EVC readers,

I just posted an album "EVC Windows".? I recently (only just now) noticed what looked like missing sealant or caulk in the seam at the bottom of my EVC windows.? I never noticed these before, but looking a photos when I bought my '99 EVC (used) almost 2 years ago, there they are.

I asked someone about them and he thought maybe they are some type of drainage slots??? They are only at the bottom of the windows and seem very regular and the openings are very neat. ?

Can anyone verify that or is there some sealant missing??
