Re: Auto trans noise
The transmission was rebuilt by a VW dealer at around 160,000Kms;
shortly before I purchased it. It was rebuilt for the sales dept. so the price is not what Joe Nobody would have paid. I think it was about $2000.00CAD. Looks like they replaced the valve body, clutch pack, some metal seals, oil cooler, and other incidentals. The VW dealer I deal with says that these transmissions are hard to rebuild because there are some special tools required that VW never made available. They claim to not have had any luck with rebuilds, and recommend an overhauled unit; which would probably come from VW. My trans warranty is about up and I am not sure if the noise I am getting is normal. I can't seem to duplicate the fault with a VW Technician along for the ride; imagine that!. |

Re: EV fuel lines and clamps
OK, Let me tell you what I have on my EV (from books & eyes) and you
tell me if you agree: There are two lines that go from the fuel pump area under the van up to near the fire starter (distributor). There is a blue plastic tube and a black plastic tube. At the upper end of both plastic tubes there is a transition to a short section of rubber hose. At this transition are the dreaded ferulles of death. These ferrules are crimped at the factory. At the other end of the rubber hose, where they connect to fuel injection components, are eith spring type clamps or otteger (CV boot type) clamps. Down below there appears to be the same arraingment. There is a protective black plastic maybe sprial cover around these lines but the plastic tubes appear to run continiously from the engine area to the fuel pump/tank area. Are we on the same track? |
New owner; ext.warranty question
Eckhard Rolz
Should I purchase an extended warranty? I am well aware that a newI would. I bought a 93 GL two years ago (70 000 miles) and I had to have the distributor replaced (weird stalling problems) for $500, a short in the fuse box cost me $700 and now I have to replace the auto trans for $4000 (dealer price installed). There was also the radiator cooling fan relay ($50), the cold start injector ($70) and the fuel pressure regulator ($30). I wish I had an extended warranty, but the vehicle was too old for that when I bought it. Get it! This vehicle is full of little surprises. Eckhard |

original article: I have been following this thread while I collect the parts to fix myThe problem is on the joint with the plastic lines. If you look at Moe Walter's photos you will see the plastic lines go into another hose which is covered with a spiral cover. The joint between these hoses looks like a big bottle cap with the plastic hose coming out of the middle. From what I understand there is a brass ferrul (sp?) that is between the plastic hose and the spiral covered hose. The "bottle cap" applies pressure to the ferrul and seals the unit. I'm not sure if that is something that can be fixed without a special clamp. Ric |

My pics are at <>, there's another set "out there" that is very good, don't remember where...Here's a reprint of my earlier post, which goes well with Moe's fine pictures and description of the EV fuel line leak: Here's a pic of what Ric was describing; the blue plastic tube in the middle of the pic is one of the gas lines coming out of the ribbed plastic sheath. This picture is taken from in front of the left headlight looking down into the right side (as you face the front of the van) of the engine. You will find what you're looking for under, and a little behind, the coolant tank. Here's another view clearly showing the ribbed plastic sheath and distributor. Replacing bulbs in switches
I was able to pry open the headlight switch and soldered in a
replacement bulb. The light has been working fine for over a year. The cost of the replacement bulb was only $1.50 or so. I would imagine other indicator lights (floor shifter indicator, dash switches, window switches, etc.) could be repaired also. Dave Homer 94 EVC (Canadian) |

Looking at this illustration, <A href=">EVFUELLINES.gif</A> these are marked as #1, #2, #3. According to the VW parts guy, you would need to order the following parts to replace all of your fuel hoses. #1, #2, #3 these are the plastic hoses including the brass barbs and rubber hose #11, #12 these look like straight rubber hose #7, #8, #32, #33 these are the formed hoses qty. (2) #5 these are the brass barbs, and looks like #1 and #3 booth need one each. I could be missing something, but as far as the special crimped fitting, it looks like it can be replaced with a standard clamp. Furnace woes and center seat debacle.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions on the center seat. Although it
seems universal that most of the people who have bought these seats don't use them, I think that it will work for my situation, especially taking my son and his pals to the hockey game for his birthday. Does anyone have any suggestions about the fan on the furnace running continuously? I look forward to working out all of the kinks in my new bus so I can wander further from home to some of the places that people on the list report visiting. It feels like EVC isolation here in Delaware. You may start asking for information on local Delaware attractions whenever you are ready. |
EV fuel lines and clamps
I have been following this thread while I collect the parts to fix my
93. But I have grown confused. I intended to replace the rubber hoses that connect to the black and blue plastic fuel lines. Is this considered enough or do the plastic hoses have to be replaced too. I also intended to replace the spring clamps with high quality german fuel injection clamps. Are the spring clamps considered better or worse then the "normal" fuel injection clamps? I have noticed that on my sisters Audi V6 that they use the high quality german fuel injection clamps, not the spring clamps.. |
