Re: 2002 Speedo and cruise control not working

Edited

The first thing I would check is the VSS. The vehicle speed sensor, hopefully that¡¯s the first thing your mechanic checked too as it is critical for the function of both of these things. By plugging in the VCDS and driving you can see if the ecu is getting the speed signal from it. That¡¯ll be the easiest way to test. It probably take five minutes. The physical location of it is a little bit onerous to get to, but it¡¯s on top of the transmission by the right side, output, shaft, basically exactly in the middle and behind the engine. ?Easy access on the lift with the belly pan off but tough in the driveway on your back ;-)

My local mechanic has spent 5 hours trying to trace why the speedometer quit and the cruise control quit. They quit about the same time.
All of the modules seem to check out okay, he has traced the wires, all seems to be okay.
If anyone has a suggestion, I, and my mechanic are all ears thanks. Malcolm 2002 Winnebago camper

No, they just hold the front and rear halves of the bolster together.

Thanks Duane & Phil. I'm doing my back stretching exercise in order to get back in there. So the 13mm NUTS I took off the bottom of the bolster didn't have to be removed? Guess I'll find out.

As always, Duane¡¯s photos and info are a true great resource and hidden key - the third bolt (right back inside) takes serious contortions to get to keeping in mind it goes into the bolster from the upper right, much easier felt than seen, as I recall and is the only major 13mm bolt in that area.??Once you¡¯ve done it once, (it¡¯s easy once you know the secrets, you will do it again whenever you need to get to the upper fuses or relays (I realize that¡¯s not what you need now)- far far safer than ¡°dropping down the fuse/relay 1000 wire and connector rats nest assembly¡± (what were they thinking?). Once the bolted is out of the way it¡¯s comparatively easy to replace the ignition switch.

That's all it takes.? I originally made that file.? The 'secret' is to remove the cover on the end to see 2 of the bolts.? The 3rd is under the bolster on the back side.

Re: 2002 DS knee bolster removal ignition switch

Thanks Duane. Those are two good files that cover the switch replacement. At the bolster removal one just says to remove it with no info on how and the other says to remove some 13mm bolts. I'm trying to determine if the bolster has a frame attached which is then mounted to brackets on each end using those 13mm bolts. I don't want to just start removing nuts & bolts w/o knowing what they hold together.

There's a file that shows how to do that here on the group, /g/eurovanupdate/files/IgnitionSwitch.pdf? It's only for the electrical part of the switch, not the mechanical.?

2002 DS knee bolster removal ignition switch

Got to replace the wonky ignition switch and am now at the bolster removal. So far got the cowls removed and also the side panel- after punching out pins. I've removed the nuts along the bolsters bottom which loosed it there but the top is still tight. I need help from this point to remove the bolster. Looks like bolts on both ends may need to be removed but any help or instructions from you is appreciated. Thanks all.

On the AES/AXK engines, it's an M8 all thread bolt and needs to be at least 2 inches long.? I bought a bag of M8x75mm at Fastenal years ago and give them away as needed.? I originally bought 40mm length, but it was difficult to get a new belt on since it wasn't stretched at all.? You can also remove one of the bolts that hold the tensioner in place and use that.? Using that one saves you the trouble of finding the one that "you know you've got somewhere".

Re: Serpentine belt tension pulley wrench

A couple months back when I replaced the belts on my 1995 EVC, I used a prybar to release the tension on the top pulley to remove the serpentine belt. This is write up on TheSamba.com I posted on that work:

Included are links to YouTube videos of a prybar being used to remove the serpentine belt and some pictures as well. Had a tougher time installing the new serpentine belt than removing it.

Re: Serpentine belt tension pulley wrench

George
It would be helpful if we knew what Eurovan, year, model you have.
To get slack in the serpentine belt, you have to screw in a M8x1.25 inch (can be longer) bolt into the tensioner.
That's for 2001-2003 Eurovans. I think that's also the size bolt for 1997-2000's as well.
For earlier Eurovans, I don't know.
You can access the tensioner by looking on the left side, down behind the radiator.
If you need more room, remove screws, grill components and tilt the radiator forward holding
it in place with a block of wood.
There are videos that show how to do this.

Re: 95 Eurovan furnace

Thanks Mark. I did wonder about this option. I might see if I can have a look. I'm guessing to access the furnace you need to remove a lot of plastic panels.

Re: 95 Eurovan furnace

Just a guess, here, but you could have a blockage that's causing the hot air to back up to and out of the exterior vent. This has been known to happen when a small, furry critter builds a nest in the furnace. It's bit of work to get to the furnace but you may want to invest the time to inspect it before you go away or before you pay a lot of?'s to have it diagnosed...

Subject: [eurovanupdate] 95 Eurovan furnace

I've not used the furnace for a while in our 95 Eurovan. Set it going today to test and there is a lot more heat coming from the outside vent than the inside blower.?
Has anyone experienced this? I am in the UK and would like the furnace to be working next week when we go away for a few days.
Thanks in advance.
