Another propane tank mystery

Charles Bragg

On my new EVC there seemed to be no propane. The internal monitor lights showed 2/3, but none of the appliances would work. The stovetop burners did not seem to be exhaling *anything*.
So, mumbling about inconsiderate dealers, I took it to the gas man this morning. He told me it was half full, and proved it by maxing out the refill at 1.4 gallons.
And now everything works!

So what was it half full of, water? ;-) Anybody know what's going on?

I just checked what was an obvious lean and it measure 3/4" plus to the left. Oy. I'll talk to the mech about the torsion bar fix, but I have another question. Does this mean that the weight is *significantly* greater on the left? What would be "significant"? Should I adjust left side tire pressure?

Re: Another propane tank mystery

I have heard in the past that the EVCs come with butane in the tank. Maybe
after you run your appliances a while and deplete your tank, everything
will be fine. Congratulations on your new EVC. I hope it brings you as
much joy as it has for my son and I. We have suffered some problems since
purchasing our new EVC in June but with the good, knowledgeable people of
this list you are in good hands. What state do you live in?

Re: Front Fog Light Source for 93

From a previous posting, I sent an email requesting the same info (for
front and rear fog lights for 93 EV) to:

Steve Lashley
SKL Enterprises
www.EuroCampers.com

Steve indicated it would take a few weeks to get the info/prices.
There is another message, not too far back, where someone posted the
rear part numbers and price paid (in Germany)

As for the plugs, are you sure you:
1. got the correct plugs,
2. gapped them correctly? (they should be between 0.7 - 0.9 mm)
3. tighten the plugs correctly? (okay to "torque" them in, factory
manual says 18 ft lb)
4. rechecked spark plug wires so they're on the ends of the spark
plugs? Pinch the ends of the spark plug wire boots and wiggle them
slightly - make sure they on really tight on the spark plug ends. If
they're loose, engine vibration at certain engine RPMs may cause the
wire to disconnect from the plug - net result is loss of one cylinder
every so often. This would give you a flat spot. After you do this,
check the spark plug wire connections into the cap. Make sure they're
tight there.

Did you replace anything else? Try noting what RPM range the flat spot
happens, what was the engine temp (warm, cold) - a strech here, but
maybe you "disturbed something" when replacing the plugs thats
inpacting the fuel injection system such as a vacuum or electrical
line, etc.

Hope this helped

Re: Heater Core Leak?

Good to hear that your had good smarts to fix the hose! BTW, did you
save the old hose? I figured you could work out a better fix for the
old hose once its off the van (with the new part in place). Saving the
old part, you'd be ready incase it happened again (?)

PS, Lucky you on the rear brakes!! I'm sure a replacement drum would
have cost you dearly.

Of course when I found the leak It was during a snow storm in the
parking lot of chucky cheezes at nite. I used a penney, RTV and a big
enough hose clamp to wrap around the hose bleeder area. It worked for
the week or so it took to get a new hose!

Alex,
I don't think it is metal on metal, but it sure sounds like it. Also,
sound appears to be coming from both sides. I am going in for a 25,0000 mile
oil change (miles sure do pile up!) next week. I intend to stick around for
it and ask that the pads on both front wheels be inspected.

Alex,

Try to isolate which wheel (brake) the noise is coming from. You
should be able to do this moving slowly wityh the windows down. A
passenger helps.

After you isolate the wheel making the noise, jack the end of the
vehicle up (make sure the vehicle is level AND DONT FORGET to use jack
stands!) so the "bad wheel" is off the ground. For example, if its the
front right wheel, jack up the front end so you can rotate the wheel by
hand. When you can safely do this, have someone apply the brakes
(softly), try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. You may be
able to take the wheel off and still be able to spin it fast enough to
get the sound to repeate, but with no rotating mass, the brakes will
stop the wheel quickly - you may not be able to duplicate the sound.

If you really had metal on metal, it would be obvious to detect, just
look at your rotors (the 99 has discs all the way around). For this
check, the wheels do not have to be moving. If you were grinding metal
on metal, there would be obvious gouges in the disk.

Hope this helped.

Dave,
I second that. When my "95 was totaled, I made a point of telling them that it

$25000 for it which included a $2000 allowance for additional taxes I would have
to pay to replace it.

carriers are arguing. The other driver was at fault, and her company will
pay the claim if they admit fault. My company came back with the typical
low ball offer. How insulting.

Chris,
Nope, plus I live in Colorado where even bare metal doesn't rust. I presume the

Sorry for lack of details. This is a 93 EV with about 14k miles.

There was never any metal to metal, It looked like the friction
material just came loose and slid over slightly till they hit other
hardware. But this ment that only a short section of the friction
material was being pressed against the drums. The drums survived very
well.

They were showing the filming of part of the ad and in the background ( out of sight of the camera that was filming the ad ) was an EVC.? I am quite sure that is the first time I have seen an EVC on TV.? I was looking at a People mag and there was an article about the arrest in Germany of a notorious con man.? They showed a picture of the swank hotel where the fugitive was caught, and parked out front was a Eurovan.

I investigated the fog lights earlier this year with the help of a German

This German friend looked up the dealer prices and part numbers, and also

I posted the fog light diagram to my website.
You can print this out and take it to
the dealer. You will also need the switch and relay. I don't have this
information, and I don't know how to wire them up.

I didn't have the dealer price the fog lights. When I brought this up with

Regarding fuel lines, I opened the hood and specifically checked out the fuel lines. Same old stuff. Black plastic line with a matching blue return line. Both had the odd looking bottle cap clamps, which was the problem on my 93. The other fuel line clamps are the spring type clamps. I didn't see anything different. Perhaps they are using a better quality rubber on the fuel line, but I have no way of knowing. I guess I was hoping to see a completely re-worked fuel line assembly, but didn't.

Re: Heater Core Leak?

Forgot to ask, is it possible to use a different screw (metal?) with
some type of sealant on the threads? or could you have tapped new
threads in the body and use another (bigger) diameter screw metal or
plastic).

Please watch out if you try and bleed the air out. There is a bleed

Re: Heater Core Leak?

Thanks for sharing the wisdom.

When you are changing the coolant, the factory manual indicates you
need to "open the breather crew in hose to heater core"

This step is common to several foreign makes - my Fiat Spider was like
this. When you're replacing the coolant, you can have pockets of air
get trapped. Since air will not compress (under the weight of the
coolant) you will top up to the radiator neck before all the air is
taken out.

Do you have the Auxiliary heater for the rear? If so, I'd warm up the
van and turn on all heaters at the same time and verify you are full of
coolant.
