Another propane tank mystery
Charles Bragg
On my new EVC there seemed to be no propane. The internal monitor lights showed 2/3, but none of the appliances would work. The stovetop burners did not seem to be exhaling *anything*.
So, mumbling about inconsiderate dealers, I took it to the gas man this morning. He told me it was half full, and proved it by maxing out the refill at 1.4 gallons. And now everything works! So what was it half full of, water? ;-) Anybody know what's going on? -- Chuck 99 EVC 238 miles. ======== Chuck Bragg, Santa Monica Bay Audubon cgbragg@... fax: 209-671-6396 ======== |

after you run your appliances a while and deplete your tank, everything will be fine. Congratulations on your new EVC. I hope it brings you as much joy as it has for my son and I. We have suffered some problems since purchasing our new EVC in June but with the good, knowledgeable people of this list you are in good hands. What state do you live in? -----Original Message-----

Re: Front Fog Light Source for 93
From a previous posting, I sent an email requesting the same info (for
front and rear fog lights for 93 EV) to: Steve Lashley SKL Enterprises www.EuroCampers.com Steve indicated it would take a few weeks to get the info/prices. There is another message, not too far back, where someone posted the rear part numbers and price paid (in Germany) As for the plugs, are you sure you: 1. got the correct plugs, 2. gapped them correctly? (they should be between 0.7 - 0.9 mm) 3. tighten the plugs correctly? (okay to "torque" them in, factory manual says 18 ft lb) 4. rechecked spark plug wires so they're on the ends of the spark plugs? Pinch the ends of the spark plug wire boots and wiggle them slightly - make sure they on really tight on the spark plug ends. If they're loose, engine vibration at certain engine RPMs may cause the wire to disconnect from the plug - net result is loss of one cylinder every so often. This would give you a flat spot. After you do this, check the spark plug wire connections into the cap. Make sure they're tight there. Did you replace anything else? Try noting what RPM range the flat spot happens, what was the engine temp (warm, cold) - a strech here, but maybe you "disturbed something" when replacing the plugs thats inpacting the fuel injection system such as a vacuum or electrical line, etc. Hope this helped Jerry swindso-@... wrote: original article: Does anyone know of a source for the factory fog lights to fit theRPM's. Re: Heater Core Leak?
Good to hear that your had good smarts to fix the hose! BTW, did you
save the old hose? I figured you could work out a better fix for the old hose once its off the van (with the new part in place). Saving the old part, you'd be ready incase it happened again (?) Alex,
I don't think it is metal on metal, but it sure sounds like it. Also, sound appears to be coming from both sides. I am going in for a 25,0000 mile oil change (miles sure do pile up!) next week. I intend to stick around for it and ask that the pads on both front wheels be inspected. John sanae@... wrote: Alex,-- mailto:jwwaterman@... John Waterman Parker,CO |

Dave,
I second that. When my "95 was totaled, I made a point of telling them that it was a unique vehicle and that I expected replacement value. They ended up paying $25000 for it which included a $2000 allowance for additional taxes I would have to pay to replace it. Chris,
Nope, plus I live in Colorado where even bare metal doesn't rust. I presume the brake system is pretty much the same as on my "95, but I did not have the problem (or at least the perceived problem) with it. Re: Heater Core Leak?
The screw body and head as well as most of the section inside the hose
were plastic. It is very possible to use a simple hex bolt (M6 I think) of the correct length and a properly fitting flat washer. Just attach the washer to the bolt with epoxy, RTV or solder and you have a heavy duty replacement part. Of course when I found the leak It was during a snow storm in the parking lot of chucky cheezes at nite. I used a penney, RTV and a big enough hose clamp to wrap around the hose bleeder area. It worked for the week or so it took to get a new hose! |

Sorry for lack of details. This is a 93 EV with about 14k miles.
There was never any metal to metal, It looked like the friction material just came loose and slid over slightly till they hit other hardware. But this ment that only a short section of the friction material was being pressed against the drums. The drums survived very well. |
EVC sighting
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI was watching World News Tonight ( or whatever they call the news program on before Jeopardy ) and the final segment was on a millennial commercial that will be aired around the world by the Ford Motor Company.? They were showing the filming of part of the ad and in the background ( out of sight of the camera that was filming the ad ) was an EVC.? I am quite sure that is the first time I have seen an EVC on TV.? I was looking at a People mag and there was an article about the arrest in Germany of a notorious con man.? They showed a picture of the swank hotel where the fugitive was caught, and parked out front was a Eurovan. |

Also, any advice on spark plugs? I put in Bosch single electrodeI am experiencing te same problem. I wonder what's wrong. I thought Bosch and VW should go well together. Eckhard |

I'm hoping they would be willing to send me parts by parcel post. I investigated the fog lights earlier this year with the help of a German friend. I need to find this information again on my computer, and I will share it with the list. (if I can find it) This German friend looked up the dealer prices and part numbers, and also checked into buying the lights direct from Hella. Hellas was a better deal, but the lights still cost about $200 plus shipping. I don't have this information, and I don't know how to wire them up. I didn't have the dealer price the fog lights. When I brought this up with the parts guy, he suggested I just go after market. The VW fog lights would be way too expensive. It goes away after you use the brakes several times. This is normal. The newer Bosch ABS systems will also sound like that when they are actively trying to prevent a lockup. It's really odd sounding, find a wet parking lot and test your ABS, so you know what it sounds like. Allot of accidents happen when drivers erroneously let go of the brakes, because of ABS noises. -----Original Message----- From: Zaborenko, Alex, NNAD [mailto:azaborenko@...] Sent: Wednesday, October 27, 1999 9:46 AM To: ev_update@... Front Fog Light Source for 93
Does anyone know of a source for the factory fog lights to fit the
stock cutout locations on the front bumper on a 93 GL? Thanks for any advice or parts #'s. Also, any advice on spark plugs? I put in Bosch single electrode Plat's and I can notice flat spots in the acceleration at various RPM's. Every vehicle that I've had ran great on the Bosch Plat's except this one. |

Re: Heater Core Leak?
Forgot to ask, is it possible to use a different screw (metal?) with
some type of sealant on the threads? or could you have tapped new threads in the body and use another (bigger) diameter screw metal or plastic). Re: Heater Core Leak?
Thanks for sharing the wisdom.
When you are changing the coolant, the factory manual indicates you need to "open the breather crew in hose to heater core" This step is common to several foreign makes - my Fiat Spider was like this. When you're replacing the coolant, you can have pockets of air get trapped. Since air will not compress (under the weight of the coolant) you will top up to the radiator neck before all the air is taken out. Do you have the Auxiliary heater for the rear? If so, I'd warm up the van and turn on all heaters at the same time and verify you are full of coolant. Jerry gibbonsn-@... wrote: original article: I do not think it is the heater core. Re: EV rear brake shoes
I have to ask... did you ever hear a metalic grinding noise when you
used the brakes? Didn't you notice the park brake lose its holding power? Is the drum shot - I hope not. I'm sure it will be a expensive to replace.
