Jeff, yes I believe they are Yakima. Annd your idea sounds great, but
I need the rack soon & might be impossible to find on CL right now,
though I'll check around. Thx for suggestion.

Kent, thanks. But I need to carry a ladder or two for my home improvements biz. I'm wondering if I could get away with installing strong stainless steel "handles" (marine type) along the sides, reinforced with stainless steel plates on the bolted side, on the interior. And then just strapping the ladders directly on the roof with rachett straps? Do you think that would work?

Ok, thanks for existing and I'm glad I found you here; just joined.

I bought one of these crazy things yesterday in Boulder, CO; 2001
Eurovan Camper with 51k miles and super fine shape (as well it should
be, it was pretty expensive) (but I'm NOT remorseful--we're really
looking forward to driving and enjoying this van). A few fairly
innocuous dings on the outside, and inside nothing much more than one
of the two large black handles in the pop-top ceiling having been
yanked on too hard, it would appear (I have the handle and will be
trying to re-install it better and for good). Its auto transmission
completely failed in 2004 under warranty and so it now has about 10k
miles on the new one; I <guess> that's a good thing...! Poring over
the actual machine, and all the extensive documentation that came with
it. I'm happy to be here!

Re: after market gas mileage guage?

I use mine everyday. It tracks your mileage if you input the data with each fill up.

You can watch your mpg in real time on it. It's a bit scary when you see your mpg drop down to 8 or lower as you accelerate. Of course when your driving along at 40 mph or so with a light foot you see the mileage go over 30.

With the x gauge function, I've added the transmission fluid temp to keep an eye on that. It also reads your CEL codes and will reset them.

If you have any specific questions, please p-mail.

Years ago....

I bought my '97EVC new Feb. '98.
I think I contacted Winnebago customer service about year later.
They just took my ship to address and sent it to me.
They would even partially pay for the installation.

Winnebago

My '97EVC came with only a single vent.
I contacted Winnebago and they sent the second one with install instructions.

But I will say this....the 'high altitude kit' will improve fridge operation
but I've found this only at elevations above 9000 ft.

Or you could also go with the Yakima rear-hatch rack. No hitch needed.
Just straps onto the back. Drawback - it only holds two bikes. I got
mine for about $150 at REI.

High NOX means bad cat.
Can also mean very lean running via a too-lean fuel/air mix or ignition timing is off, causing high combustion temperatures which in turns causes NOx. But if your HC is kinda normal though, and if your cat is getting kinda old, then I'd rule these out and focus on the cat.

A while back I failed the Vancouver-area "Aircare" smog test with very
high CO and HC readings (posting #103838). Turned out the blue 2
wire temp. sensor wasn't plugged in properly, so I was running in
default rich mode. This happened when I was diagnosing "no starting"
problems. I burned about ?? tank of gas with the sensor unplugged.
Plugged it back in, and the van ran better and didn't smell of gas.
So I waited for a couple of tanks of gas, some around town and some
highway driving, then went back to re-test. I also installed a 470
ohm resistor in the circuit to the Intake Air Temp sensor; haven?€?t had
any instances of high idling since then (something that happened from
time to time before). This time, HC and CO are OK, but NOx is higher
- high enough to fail.

Plugs, Cap, rotor, and wires are all new.

The readings on the first test were:
|max Allowed | reading | Avg. Pass
HC | .9900 | 1.6849 | .3049 >> FAIL
CO | 12.43 | 36.8187 | 6.1019 >> FAIL
NOx | 1.5500 | 1.2423 | 0.7272 >> Pass, but higher than
average

The readings on the second test are:
|max Allowed | reading | Avg. Pass
HC | .9900 | 0.6051 | .3049 >> Pass, but higher than
average
CO | 12.43 | 11.1820 | 6.1019 >> Pass ?€" barely!!
NOx | 1.5500 | 1.7398 | 0.7272 >> FAIL

I seem to remember that high NOx is often a catalytic converter gone
bad. Is that the case? Anything else to check out, such as the
Oxygen sensor? Timing?

My van has a ?€?generic?€? converter that was put in a couple years
ago by
a previous owner. The front pipe that comes with the ?€?factory?€?
converter is wearing through, so if it is the Cat I can kill 2 birds

Kent,

Did you have the Yakima deflector installed on the front bar? I have a
Scion xB, and saw the same mileage drop, plus excessive wind noise, but the
mileage pretty much came back with the deflector, and the wind noise was
gone. Obviously, loading the racks will reduce the mileage, but I wonder if
the deflector will help on the Van when they are empty..

Billy:

Unless you 'absolutely' have to have a roof rack.......I would suggest no
going that route.
The roof rack and whatever you mount there will impact your gas mileage at
least 2-4 mpg.

I have removed my Yakima Tracks towers and just put everything inside.
An alternative would be a rear hitch mounted carrier......no drag.

Re: 93 mv weekender auxiliary battery help for newbie

Hi Robert,

I don't have the van handy to take a look, but the only round hole I
remember under my table is the socket for the "leg" that sticks down
from the bottom of the table. It holds the table in place when
folded... no electricals.

As for the socket under the driver's seat, there may be a fuse, I
don't remember. It is wired to the battery under the seat. The best
thing is to slide your seat forward and take a look. A previous owner
may have made some changes. I think my socket was disconnected -
anyway it is now because I don't have the under-seat fridge.

Re: coil and other codes, 99 euro running rough and wont start sometimes.

"tkirschhofer" <toddk@...> wrote:

new battery, just wouldnt turn over

That's the BIG clue, right there. If your battery went dead and you
put in a new battery... and, subsequently you did get the engine
started, but are lamenting that you have a rough engine... and then
spend all kinds of money at a dealership. Slow down a second!!

Did you perform a throttle body adaption after your battery install?

If you didn't, you very well could have a very rough engine.

But, you can fix it yourself (if that's the problem) without much
fuss and certainly no expense. Just do the throttle body procedure
and see if that doesn't clear up the rough engine.

Re: coil and other codes, 99 euro running rough and wont start sometimes.

Hi Todd,

If the starter doesn't go when you turn the key, that's most likely a
totally different problem than if the starter goes but the motor
doesn't start.

"No starter" is usually a relatively simple thing to figure out...
- not in Park or Neutral (I have seen this more times than you'd think!)
- weak battery (try a boost start?)
- poor (dirty) battery connections
- poor connections in small wire to solenoid
- bad ignition switch
- bad neutral safety switch (try starting in Neutral)
- bad starter or starter solenoid

Turn the headlights on... they should be turned off automatically when
you turn the key to start. If not, that suggests something in the key
switch or related wiring.

I have sometimes connected 12v from the battery to the small wire on
the starter solenoid. If it cranks, starter is OK, problem is
somewhere in the circuit from the battery to the key to the starter
solenoid.

Can't comment on the CEL and coil... I have the old 5 cyl motor which
is very different.
